Transplant renal artery stenosis (TRAS) is a common vascular complication after kidney transplantation, leading to worsening or refractory hypertension, deterioration in renal function, and possible cause of graft loss. Early diagnosis and an appropriate treatment are crucial for organ preservation. Endovascular treatment, including percutaneous transluminal angioplasty and stent implantation, is considered the first-line therapy for TRAS. Here we report the case of a 69-year-old woman with end-stage renal disease for chronic kidney disease not biopsy proven, who underwent a kidney transplant from expanded criteria donors on December 2018...

BACKGROUND: In primary care, measurement of the ankle-brachial index (ABI) by using hand Doppler is recommended for screening of peripheral arterial disease. Despite being relatively a simple procedure, the ABI is rarely measured in primary care due to unpracticality of the hand Doppler method. Oscillometry is an accessible, reliable, and an easy to use method for the measurement of ABI. With a little training, it can be used by anybody. Aim: The aim of the study is to compare the oscillometric method with a reference test (i...

The aim of this study was to discuss the serum copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), nitric oxide (NO), glutathione (GSH), advanced oxidation protein products (AOPP) levels, and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activities with diabetic retinopathy severity. Twenty-five patients with proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR group 1), 25 patients with nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy (NPDR group 2), and 25 nondiabetic controls (control group) were included in the study. Patients who had macrovascular complications of diabetes (coronary arterial disease, periferic vascular disease) were excluded...

Periferal vascular disease usually results from a systemic entity in which atherothrombosis develops in different vascular territories, having common risk factors. It is hence usual to find coexistent, often subclinical, coronary artery disease, which is responsible for most of perioperatory morbidity and mortality in patients submitted to vascular surgery. An adequate preoperatory risk stratification must be accomplished, having in mind the clinical manifestations, risk factors, comorbidities, functional capacity and global left ventricular systolic function of the patient...

INTRODUCTION: Patients older than 65 years represent the group of patients affected by end-stage renal failure characterized by the most rapid growth. The prevalent causes of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) in the elderly are diabetes mellitus and nephrosclerosis due to long-term arterial hypertension. There are a number of physiologic changes which occur with aging that might have an impact on the choice of renal replacement modality for an elderly patient: clinical or subclinical diminished cardiovascular reserve due to atherosclerosis or impaired baroreceptor function, slow deterioration of pulmonary function, impaired immunity, increased susceptibility to infection, metabolic disturbances, bone loss from osteoporosis, altered metabolism of protein and a variety of drugs, high rate of malnutrition, tendency to carbohydrate intolerance...

UNLABELLED: Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is one of the major treatment methods of coronary artery disease. CABG is an open-heart surgery that uses cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). After CPB, it is well known that neurological and neuropsychological complications may occur. The purpose of this study was to evaluate brain perfusion patterns before and after CPB and to locate brain perfusion changes in patients with neurological and neuropsycological complications after CPB. METHODS: Twenty-five patients who underwent open-heart surgery (22 CABG, 3 valve replacement) and 5 patients (4 cholecystectomy, 1 periferic vascular surgery) as a control group were included in the study...

We studied the prevalence of risk factors and related cardiovascular complications in 403 patients with periferal arterial disease (PAD) arising from atherosclerosis. The control group was made up of 126 patients of the same age and sex and without PAD. The average age was 66.9 +/- 12 years, and the percentage of men was 80%. Among the male subjects, smoking, the presence of diabetes, total cholesterol count, and age were the prevalent risk factors, even after logistic regression analysis. Among women, only smoking and diabetes showed significant differences...

Since the first application of the prosthetic vascular graft for the operation of aneurysm of the abdominal aorta, surgeries with prosthetic grafts were carried out among 573 patients, that is, 445 with aortic diseases, 48 with diseases of the periferal arteries and 75 with congenital heart diseases, respectively. In this paper, our clinical experiences of using the prosthetic grafts during last 25 years were described at first, and then, some problems of the prosthetic graft in the present and future were discussed...

The occlusion of the femoral artery of rats induced reproducible hind limb lesions resembling thromboangiitis and obliterative arteriosclerosis. 17(R)-Methyl-20-isopropylidenecarbacyclin (CS-570), as well as alprostadil (PGE1), ticlopidine and pentoxifylline, inhibited the lesions. The occlusion of the femoral artery of rabbits caused elevation of the viscosity of the returning venous blood and echinocytic shape changes of erythrocytes. CS-570, as well as PGE1, also inhibited these changes. The decreased deformability of erythrocytes of rats under acidic conditions was improved by CS-570 and PGE1...
