The supraorbital branch of the trigeminal nerve of rats in chloralose anaesthesia was stimulated with electrical pulses. The stimulation of the afferent fibres of the trigeminal nerve evoked the retractive jerks of the outstretched tongue. These evoked tongue jerks (ETJ) were recorded on the tape of the line recorder through an isotonic transducer.
