The selective oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) is important for various energy conversion processes such as the fuel cells and metal-air batteries for the 4e- pathway and hydrogen peroxide (H2 O2 ) electrosynthesis for the 2e- pathway. However, it remains a challenge to tune the ORR selectivity of a catalyst in a controllable manner. Herein, we report an efficient strategy for introducing sulfur dopants to regulate the ORR selectivity of main-group Sb-N-C single-atom catalysts. Significantly, Sb-N-C with the highest sulfur content follows a 2e- pathway with a high H2 O2 selectivity (96...

MXene, as a new category of two-dimensional nanomaterials, exhibits a promising prospect in biomedical applications due to its ultrathin structure and morphology, as well as a range of remarkable properties such as biological, chemical, electronic, and optical properties. In this work, different concentrations of MXene (M) were added to polyvinyl alcohol (PVA, P)/nano-hydroxyapatite (n-HA, H) mixed solution, and series of PVA/n-HA/MXene (PHM) composite membranes were obtained by combining sol-gel and freeze-drying processes...

Cyclin-dependent kinases (CDK2, CDK4, CDK6), cyclin D1, cyclin E1 and phosphorylated retinoblastoma (pRB1) are key regulators of the G1/S cell cycle checkpoint and may influence platinum response in ovarian cancers. CDK2/4/6 inhibitors are emerging targets in ovarian cancer therapeutics. In the current study, we evaluated the prognostic and predictive significance of the CDK2/4/6-cyclin D1/E1-pRB1 axis in clinical ovarian cancers (OC). The CDK2/4/6, cyclin D1/E1 and RB1/pRB1 protein expression were investigated in 300 ovarian cancers and correlated with clinicopathological parameters and patient outcomes...

Biofilm formation plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of Candida albicans and is significantly associated with resistance to antifungal agents. Tea seed saponins, a class of non-ionic triterpenes, have been proven to have fungicidal effects on planktonic C. albicans . However, their anti-biofilm activity and mechanism of action against C. albicans remain unclear. In this study, the effects of three Camellia sinensis seed saponin monomers, namely, theasaponin E1 (TE1), theasaponin E2 (TE2), and assamsaponin A (ASA), on the metabolism, biofilm development, and expression of the virulence genes of C...

In this work, UV-Vis spectrophotometry, High Resolution Scanning Transmission Electron Microscopes and selected experimental conditions were used to screen the colloidal system. The obtained results complement the established knowledge regarding the mechanism of nanoparticle formation. The process of gold nanoparticles formation involves a two-step reduction of Au ions to Au(0); atom association and metastable cluster formation; autocatalytic cluster growth; ultra-small particle formation (1-2 nm, in diameter); particle growth and larger particles formation; and further autocatalytic crystal growth (D > 100 nm)...

In cutaneous wound healing, an overproduction of inflammatory chemokines and bacterial infections impedes the process. Hydrogels can maintain a physiologically moist microenvironment, absorb chemokines, prevent bacterial infection, inhibit bacterial reproduction, and facilitate wound healing at a wound site. The development of hydrogels provides a novel treatment strategy for the entire wound repair process. Here, a series of Fructus Ligustri Lucidi polysaccharide extracts loaded with polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and pectin hydrogels were successfully fabricated through the freeze-thaw method...

Cotton aphid Aphis gossypii Glover damages plants such as cotton directly by feeding on leaves and indirectly by transmitting viruses and excreting honeydew, which interferes with photosynthesis. The control of A. gossypii is still dominated by the frequent use of insecticides, which leads to a gradual increase in pesticide resistance in A. gossypii . Research is therefore needed on non-pesticide controls. In this study, seven plant essential oils (EOs) of Ocimum sanctum L., Ocimum basilicum L., Ocimum gratissimum L...

The mechanosensitive Piezo channels have been shown to contribute to bone remodeling. However, information about the pathways through which Piezo channels affects osteoblasts remains limited. Thus, we aimed to investigate the influence of Piezo1 on the osteogenic and osteoclast factors in osteoblasts under mechanical load. Background Penile cancer is a rare malignancy usually requiring surgery to achieve oncological control of the primary tumour but often at the expense of functional length. The presenting stage of the primary is a crucial factor in determining the most appropriate surgical procedure. Accurate preoperative staging is essential, and current modalities include clinical and radiological assessment. Clinical staging can, however, be hampered by patient body habitus and unreliable for more advanced T4 tumours, whereas radiological staging allows for more detailed identification of tissue planes and tumour involvement...

We posit that this new generation must have the ability to communicate (build and maintain trust and accountability); forge, facilitate, and promote partnerships; connect public health and health care systems; build information systems that provide accessible, actionable data; engage in systems and strategic thinking and action; center equity and inclusivity and understand structural racism as a fundamental driver and creator of health inequities; and achieve and maintain resilience and self-care...

METHODS: To elucidate the role of NMN in osteogenesis in the context of Gram-negative bacterial infection after LPS treatment, we cultured a mouse pre-osteoblast cell line (MC3T3-E1) and subsequently incubated it with NMN and/or LPS...

Pt nanoparticles (NPs) was dispersed onto Nb2O5/NC by a simple impregnation reduction method. The obtained Pt/Nb2O5/NC electrocatalyst showed high ORR activity due to three-phase mutual contacting structure with well-dispersed Pt and Nb2O5 NPs. In addition, the conductive NC is benefit to electron transfer while the induced Nb2O5 can regulate electronic structure of Pt element and anchor Pt NPs, thereby enhancing the ORR activity and stability...
