In this work, a multiplexed colorimetric strategy was initiated for simultaneous and fast visualization of dyes using low-cost and easy-to-prepare indicator papers as sorbents. Response surface methodology (RSM) was employed to model statistically and optimize the process variables for dyes extraction and colorimetric assays. Multiplexed colorimetry was realized by virtue of synchronous color alignments from different dimensions of multiple dyes co-stained colorimetric cards under RSM-optimized conditions, and smartphone-based image analysis was subsequently performed from different modes to double-check the credibility of colorimetric assays...

A colorimetry/fluorescence dual-mode assay based on the aptamer-functionalized magnetic covalent organic framework-supported CuO and Au NPs (MCOF-CuO/Au@apt) was developed for Salmonella typhimurium (S. typhimurium) biosensing. The nanohybrid combined three functions in one: good magnetic separation characteristic, excellent oxidase-mimic activity for tetrap-aminophenylethylene (TPE-4A), and target recognition capability. The attachment of MCOF-CuO/Au@apt onto the surface of S. typhimurium resulted in a significant reduction in the oxidase-mimicking activity of the nanohybrid, which could generate dual-signal of colorimetry and fluorescence through the catalytic oxidation of TPE-4A...

The urgent need for sensitive and accurate assays to monitor acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity and organophosphorus pesticides (OPs) arises from the imperative to safeguard human health and protect the ecosystem. Due to its cost-effectiveness, ease of operation, and rapid response, nanozyme-based colorimetry has been widely utilized in the determination of AChE activity and OPs. However, the rational design of nanozymes with high activity and specificity remains a great challenge. Herein, trace amount of Bi-doped core-shell Pd@Pt mesoporous nanospheres (Pd@PtBi2 ) have been successfully synthesized, exhibiting good peroxidase-like activity and specificity...

Emerging organic photoelectrochemical transistors (OPECTs) with inherent amplification capabilities, good biocompatibility and even self-powered operation have emerged as a promising detection tool, however, they are still not widely studied for pollutant detection. In this paper, a novel OPECT dual-mode aptasensor was constructed for the ultrasensitive detection of di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP). MXene/In2 S3 /In2 O3 Z-scheme heterojunction was used as a light fuel for ion modulation in sensitive gated OPECT biosensing...

Nitrogen, boron co-doped carbon quantum dots (gCQDs), and a coloration probe (PPD-NPs) with response to cobalt ions (Co2+ ) were prepared by using 4-hydroxyphenylboric acid as the common precursor, with ethylenediamine and p-phenylenediamine (PPD) adopted as nitrogen-doped reagents, respectively. A noticeable brown-to-purple color change can be observed with the addition of Co2+ , and a broad absorption band emerges at 535 nm. At the same time, gCQDs, which is introduced as the fluorescence signal source, will be significantly quenched due to the enhanced inner filtration effect, induced by the overlap between the emission spectrum of gCQDs and the emerging absorption band...

Three dye-loaded tunable dual-emission colorimetric fluorescent probes RhB@UiO-66-Ph (R@U-P) were prepared by in-situ encapsulation method under solvothermal conditions. The resonance energy transfer between UiO-66-Ph and RhB made the dual emission of R@U-P easily tunable with the embedded dye content changing. The R@U-P composites achieved emission from purple light to red light, and served as probes to realize comparative detection of Fe3+ , Fe2+ and Cr2 O7 2- in water through colorimetric or quenching detection mode...

Accurate oxygen sensing and cost-effective fabrication are crucial for the adoption of wearable devices inside and outside the clinical setting. Here we introduce a simple strategy to create nonwoven polymeric fibrous mats for a notable contribution towards addressing this need. Although morphological manipulation of polymers for cell culture proliferation is commonplace, especially in the field of regenerative medicine, non-woven structures have not been used for oxygen sensing. A dual-mode, protein-free and label-free aptamer sensor based on plasmonic colorimetry and G4 fluorescence (PC@GF-aptasensor) was proposed for ochratoxin A (OTA). Colorimetry mode was achieved through the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) effect, which related to the OTA-Apt-based G4-OTA. Color data are often required for cultural heritage documentation. These data are typically acquired via standard digital cameras since they facilitate a quick and cost-effective way to extract RGB values from photos. However, cameras' absolute sensor responses are device-dependent and thus not colorimetric. One way to still achieve relatively accurate color data is via camera characterization, a procedure which computes a bespoke RGB-to-XYZ matrix to transform camera-dependent RGB values into the device-independent CIE XYZ color space...

Polygonum multiflorum Thunb. (PM) and derived products are broadly utilized in Chinese traditional medicine. According to our previous research, PM mostly contains polysaccharides, which display a wide range of biological activities. Two water-soluble polysaccharides (PMPs-1 and PMPs-2) were obtained from PM by DEAE-Cellulose and Sephadex G-100 column chromatography. Colorimetry, HPGPC-MALLS-RID, HPLC-PDA, methylation, FT-IR, NMR, and SEM were used to characterize these polysaccharides. PMPs-1 and PMPs-2 had average molecular weights of 255...

The bright colors of Alpine leaf beetles (Coleoptera, Chrysomelidae) are thought to act as aposematic signals against predation. Within the European Alps, at least six species display a basal color of either blue or green, likely configuring a classic case of müllerian mimicry. In this context, intra-population color polymorphism is paradoxical as the existence of numerous color morphs might hamper the establishment of a search image in visual predators. Assortative mating may be one of the main factors contributing to the maintenance of polymorphic populations...
