BACKGROUND: After arthroplasty treatment, some complications commonly occur, such as early revision, infection/dislocation, and venous thromboembolism (VTE). This study aims to use a network meta-analysis to compare effects of 9 anticoagulant drugs (edoxaban, dabigatan, apixaban, rivaroxaban, warfarin, heparin, bemiparin, ximelagatran, and enoxaparin) in preventing postoperative complications in arthroplasty patients. METHODS: After retrieving PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library database from the inception to November 2016, randomized controlled trials were enrolled...

BACKGROUND: Critically ill patients are considered a high-risk group for developing venous thromboembolism (VTE). Due to their impaired cardiopulmonary reserve, these VTEs may result in significant morbidity and mortality. In this study, we compared two types of low molecular weight heparin, enoxaparin, and bemiparin, as regards to their efficacy and safety in VTE prevention among Intensive Care Unit (ICU) patients. METHODS: This study was a prospective, randomized trial of 100 critically ill patients who are at high risk for developing VTE were included in this study and assigned to receive subcutaneous injections of either 3500 international units (IU) anti-factor Xa of bemiparin sodium or 40 mg of enoxaparin given once a day and patient were followed for 60 days after initiation of anticoagulant therapy for the development of documented deep venous thrombosis (DVT) using bilateral lower limb venous duplex, documented pulmonary embolism using computed tomography pulmonary angiography, and complications related to injectant anticoagulant...

BACKGROUND: Proper management of patients with thromboangiitis obliterans (TAO) or cannabis-associated arteritis (CAA), presenting with critical lower limb ischaemia (CLI) remains controversial, and data are limited. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Patients with TAO or CAA presenting with CLI between 2011 and 2016 were retrospectively evaluated. Patients requiring primary intervention were excluded. Conservative treatment included: (a) weight-adjusted bemiparin plus six hours/day intravenous iloprost for 28 days, (b) aspirin (100 mg/day) plus cilostazol (100 mg twice/day) after discharge, and (c) strict recommendations/monitoring for smoking cessation...

Cancer patients are at major risk of developing venous thromboembolism (VTE), resulting in increased morbidity and economic burden. While a number of theories try to explain its pathophysiology, its risk stratification can be broadly done in cancer-related, treatment-related, and patient-related factors. Studies report the prophylactic use of thrombolytic agents to be safe and effective in decreasing VTE-related mortality/morbidity especially in postoperative cancer patients. Recent data also suggest the prophylactic use of low molecular weight Heparins (LMWHs) and Warfarin to be effective in reducing VTEs related to long-term central venous catheter use...

BACKGROUND: Paget-Schröetter syndrome is an uncommon form of venous thrombosis, which is related to thoracic outlet syndrome. Axillary-subclavian vein thrombosis typically presents in healthy young adults. We present this case of particular interest because it indicates that a combined treatment involving thrombolysis, anticoagulation therapy, rehabilitation, and elastic compression sleeves can be a valid non-surgical alternative for some patients with Paget-Schröetter syndrome. CASE PRESENTATION: This report describes a case of a 38-year-old white woman, a swimmer, who presented with a sudden episode of swelling and pain in her right upper extremity...

BACKGROUND: Statins have been reported to help prevent the development and the recurrence of deep vein thrombosis (DVT). We conducted a prospective randomized clinical trial to compare the effects of rosuvastatin plus a low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH), bemiparin, with conventional LMWH therapy in the treatment of DVT. PATIENTS AND METHODS: In total, 234 patients were randomized into two groups, 116 in the LMWH group and 118 in the statin plus LMWH group. All patients underwent lower limb duplex ultrasound and analytic markers at diagnosis and three months of follow-up...

Recent researches have demonstrated improved survival in oncologic patients treated with low molecular weight heparins (LMWHs) which are anticoagulant drugs. We evaluated "second generation" LMWH bemiparin and its in vitro anti-tumor effects on HepG2 hepatocellular carcinoma and MIA PaCa-2 cancer cells. The aim of the study is to investigate anti-cancer mechanism of bemiparin in HepG2 and Mia-Paca-2 cancer cells. Cytotoxic effects of bemiparin were determined by XTT assay. IC50 dose of bemiparin was found to be 200 IU/mL in the 48th hour in the MiaPaCa-2 cell line and 50 IU/mL in the 48th hour in the HepG2 cell line...

BACKGROUND: Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is the leading cause of mortality and morbidity in women following gynecologic surgery. OBJECTIVES: To determine the efficacy of a second-generation low molecular weight heparin (bemiparin) for thromboprophylaxis after benign gynecologic surgery. PURPOSE: Although therapeutic dosages of most low-molecular-weight heparins (LMWHs) are known to accumulate in patients with renal insufficiency, for the lower prophylactic dosages this has not been clearly proven. Nevertheless, dose reduction is often recommended. We conducted a systematic review to investigate whether prophylactic dosages of LMWH accumulate in renal insufficient patients. METHODS: A comprehensive search was conducted on 17 February 2015 using Embase, Medline, Web of Science, Scopus, Cochrane, PubMed publisher, and Google scholar...

The article deals with the design, preparation, and evaluation of a new bilayered dressing for application in the healing of compromised wounds. The system is based on the sequential release of two complementary bioactive components to enhance the activation of the regeneration of dermal tissue. The internal layer is a highly hydrophilic and biodegradable film of gelatin and hyaluronic acid (HG), crosslinked with the natural compound genipin, which reacts with the amine groups of gelatin. This film is loaded with the proangiogenic, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial peptide, proadrenomedullin N-terminal 20 peptide (PAMP), that is released slowly in the wound site...

OBJECTIVE: The susceptibility of tissue to ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury is a major obstacle to tissue regeneration and cellular survival. In this study, we investigated the possible renoprotective effect of dabigatran in an experimental renal I/R model. METHOD: A total of 25 rats were randomly divided into 5 equal groups. The control group was used to obtain basal values of oxidant and antioxidant biomarkers. The sham group was used to obtain renal prolidase and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels after renal ischemia (for 45 minutes) and reperfusion (for 1 hour)...

Low molecular weight heparins (LMWHs) are obtained from unfractionated heparin (UFH) through different depolymerization methods (DM), which produce compounds having specific chemical features and biological activity. It is then supposed that LMWHs also exhibit different skin permeability properties. The current work aimed to get an insight on the in vitro passive diffusion through human epidermis of six commercially available LMWHs in comparison with UFH. The in vitro studies were performed using Franz diffusion cells...
