INTRODUCTION: Cartilaginous tumours of the larynx are rare. They usually involve cricoid cartilage, less frequently thyroid cartilage and other cartilages. The most significant clinical manifestations are hoarseness, dyspnea, dysphagia or a neck mass. On physical examination, tumour is found as a bulge with intact mucosa or a tumour situated in a part of the larynx also with fixation. CT scanning is the mainstay of radiographic imaging. The histopathologic diagnosis is made after the surgical excision...

Extraskeletal chondroma is a benign cartilaginous tumor that occurs predominantly in the soft tissues near small joints of the hands and feet. There are rare reports of the lesion in other sites, such as the head, neck, trunk, oral cavity, larynx, and pharynx. We present a case of an axillary mass in a 15-year-old girl who underwent MRI examination and resection, with the ultimate diagnosis of an extraskeletal chondroma, in order to expand the differential diagnosis of an axillary soft tissue mass in an adolescent...

Laryngeal tumours are not uncommon. Great majorities of cordal benign tumours are non-neoplastic. The important tumours are polyps and nodes, cysts, non-specific granulome of vocal process, papillary keratosis, laryngocoele and primary amyloiosis. These are mostly non-neoplostic tumours. Papiloma, Fibroma, Angioma, Chondroma, Adenoma, are the other varieties of laryngeal tumour which are neoplastie. Fibroma is mostly seen at the junction of middle and anterior thirds of the vocal lords. Fibromyxoma is a rare variety and can be confirmed by histopathology...

Primary chondroid tumors of the larynx represent less than 1% of all laryngeal tumors. Most of them are chondromas and they often involve to the cricoid cartilage. A 31-year-old male patient applied to the oto-laryngology service with a history of dysphonia and dyspnea. Microlaryngoscopy revealed 2 cm sized, ill-defined, covered with regular mucosa, porous, and hard mass on posterior surface of crycoid cartilage in subglottic area. Following the excision of the lesion, histopathologic examination revealed as chondroma...

Clear cell chondrosarcoma is a rare variant of chondrosarcoma that mostly involves the end of long bones. However, nine cases have been reported in the head and neck: four in larynx, two in nasal septum, two in maxilla and one in the skull. These cases form the basis of this review. Head and neck cases accounts for less than 5% of Clear cell chondrosarcomas in the whole body and the larynx is the most common place. The histological findings of head and neck cases are consistent with general features of this entity in the whole body and nearly all tumors in this case series had a component of conventional chondrosarcoma...

Chondrosarcoma is the most frequently encountered nonepithelial tumor of the larynx. Still, laryngeal chondrosarcoma is a rare disease, accounting for less than 1% of all laryngeal neoplasms; only about 600 cases have been reported in the world literature. The two most common sites of origin are the cricoid cartilage (69% of cases) and the thyroid cartilage (9%); arytenoid cartilage origin has been seen in less than 3% of cases. The diagnosis of laryngeal chondrosarcoma is easy to miss because of its infrequent occurrence, its indolent pattern of growth, and the difficulty in differentiating it histopathologically from chondroma...

Myoepithelioma of the larynx is a very rare tumor with nonspecific local symptoms. We present the second known case, focusing on the peculiarities of the differential diagnosis for this type of tumor that are crucial for the right histologic diagnosis and furthermore for the therapeutic outcome. We report a 37-year-old male presenting with hoarseness and dyspnea. The indirect laryngoscopy revealed a gross glottic tumor from the right vocal cord who occupied the greater part of the glottis. No apparent cartilage invasion was shown in the CT...

Maffucci's syndrome is an uncommon congenital disease marked by multiple vascular malformations and enchondromas throughout the body. Otolaryngologic manifestations are relatively rare but potentially can cause symptoms such as respiratory distress and dysphagia if the lesions appear in the upper aerodigestive tract or larynx. We report a case of a young woman who demonstrated a wide range of head and neck pathology associated with this unique disease, including sphenoid enchondroma, bilateral petrous apex lesions, and rarely reported laryngeal and hypopharyngeal vascular malformations, over a period of nearly 20 years...

Chondrosarcoma of the larynx is a rare tumor of the upper respiratory tract that originates from cartilaginous tissue. The cricoid cartilage is the most frequent site of onset at the larynx. The diagnosis is not always easy, given the tumor's slow growth rate, the aspecificity of the symptoms, and the low degree of malignancy with which most cases present and which often causes it to be mistaken for a chondroma. A case is presented of a 61-year-old woman with a chondrosarcoma of the larynx, grade 2, originating from the cricoid cartilage and measuring about 3 cm in diameter...

BACKGROUND: The objective of this study was to analyze results of endoscopic YAG laser management as a treatment of chondroma and/or low-grade laryngeal chondrosarcoma. METHODS: Between 1996 and 2006, 13 patients were included, 11 men and 2 women with a median age of 69.7 years at diagnosis. Primary treatment included endoscopic laser resection in all cases. All tumors were diagnosed as cricoid cartilaginous tumor by histopathologic examination: 6 chondromas and 7 chondrosarcomas grade 1...

Chondroid tumors of the larynx are extremely rare and their develope and symptoms are difficult to diagnosis. The importance of well radiological diagnosis prior chirurgical treatment of chondroid tumors of the larynx is empasised. Conservative surgical management when possible, is advocated to preserve the larynx. We presented a case of chondroma of cricoid cartilage developing in 49-year old woman with 4 year history of hoarsness, treated by surgical management - laryngofissure. During 36 months follow up no reccurency is observed...

INTRODUCTION: Cartilaginous tumors of the head and neck are rare. The most frequent site is larynx and spheno-ethmoidal area. Chondroma of the nasal septum is very rare. Since its first description in the literature in 1842, only about 140 cases have been reported. The symptoms of nasal septum chondroma are nasal obstruction, headache and epistaxis. The treatment of choice is wide surgical excision. AIM: The aim of our study was to show own, very rare case of septal nasal chondroma...
