An infected (mycotic) aneurysm of the visceral arteries is an uncommon entity, which may arise from a secondary infection of a preexisting aneurysm or be due to degeneration from a primary infection. Mycotic aneurysms require prompt recognition and definitive treatment; otherwise, there can be devastating morbidity and mortality. We present the case of a 51-year-old female with HIV and Crohn's disease who presented with subacute abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting and was found to have an ultimately fatal mycotic aneurysm of the superior mesenteric artery...

Desmoplastic small round cell tumors (DSRCT) are very rare and aggressive diseases typically present with abdominal or retroperitoneal masses. We present a case of a young female who presented with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction and cardiac tamponade and who was found to have DSRCT. The patient was coded at the emergency department. Left heart catheterization showed normal coronary arteries, and pericardiocentesis removed 1,260 mL of bloody pericardial effusions. The patient was stabilized, and a positron emission tomography scan revealed left intrahilar, hilar, and cardiophrenic masses with associated hypermetabolic right hilar, left hilar, subcarinal, costophrenic, aortopulmonary, paratracheal, and mediastinal lymphadenopathy...

Xanthogranulomatous (XG) inflammatory disease is a rare benign disease involving various organs, including the gallbladder, bile duct, pancreas, spleen, stomach, small bowel, colon, appendix, kidney, adrenal gland, urachus, urinary bladder, retroperitoneum, and female genital organs. The imaging features of XG inflammatory disease are nonspecific, usually presenting as a heterogeneous solid or cystic mass. The disease may also extend to adjacent structures. Due to its aggressive nature, it is occasionally misdiagnosed as a malignant neoplasm...

BACKGROUND: The deep learning (DL)-based reconstruction algorithm reduces noise in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), thereby enabling faster MRI acquisition. PURPOSE: To compare the image quality and diagnostic performance of conventional turbo spin-echo (TSE) T2-weighted (T2W) imaging with DL-accelerated sagittal T2W imaging in the female pelvic cavity. METHODS: This study evaluated 149 consecutive female pelvic MRI examinations, including conventional T2W imaging with TSE (acquisition time = 2:59) and DL-accelerated T2W imaging with breath hold (DL-BH) (1:05 [0:14 × 3 breath-holds]) in the sagittal plane...

INTRODUCTION: Aneurysmal bone cysts (ABCs) are non-neoplastic expansile, vascular, osteolytic benign tumors in the long bone, spine, and sternum. The location in the pelvis is sparse. CASE REPORT: A 12-year-old female presented with pain in her left pelvis for 6 months. On radiological examination, we found an expansile balloting lytic lesion involving almost the whole ilium and sparing the hip joint. There were multiple fluid levels seen on magnetic resonance imaging...

BACKGROUND: Uterine leiomyosarcoma is a rare and aggressive tumour with a poor prognosis. Its metastases to the heart are even rarer, especially to the epicardium. The majority of reported cardiac metastases of uterine leiomyosarcoma were in the cardiac chambers or intramyocardial. Surgical resection of the uterine leiomyosarcoma in the early stages is the only definitive treatment for this disease. However, in the cases of cardiac metastasis, surgery is recommended only in emergencies and patients with expected beneficial outcomes...

Primary adrenal angiosarcoma is a very rare malignancy. This is a case report of a 54-year-old female, who presented with right-sided abdominal pain. Magnetic resonance imaging of the abdomen and pelvis showed a right adrenal mass with a maximum dimension of 5.7 cm. The patient went for a laparoscopic right adrenalectomy. The postoperative period was uneventful, and she was discharged on postoperative day 2. The patient was free from complaints at outpatient follow-up visits. Pathology confirmed the diagnosis of adrenal angiosarcoma and the metastasis workup was negative...

BACKGROUND: Renal pelvis sarcomatoid carcinoma (RPSC) is a rare and aggressive malignancy whose diagnosis is difficult because radiological imaging results can lead to misclassification as a more common type of renal tumor. In addition, clinical management of patients with RPSC is difficult because of the limited efficacy of available treatments. In this study, we present a comprehensive description of a patient who presented with RPSC and a simultaneous renal vein tumor thrombus. CASE SUMMARY: During April, 2020, a 64-year-old female presented with an isolated episode of hematuria accompanied by abdominal pain...

Hyperostosis triangularis ilii, also called osteitis condensans ilii (OCI), is a rare condition, mostly occurring in females, and the etiology is unknown. This disease is a sclerotic disorder associated with iliac fibrosis, a noninflammatory and self-limiting disorder. This condition primarily affects the iliac part of the sacroiliac joints and sometimes the adjoining bones, such as the sacrum, lumbar vertebrae, and iliac bones. It is an incidental finding in many individuals but rarely associated with lower back pain due to sacroiliac joint involvement...

Persistent Müllerian Duct syndrome is a rare male disorder of sexual development. The phenotypically and genotypically male patient presents with female internal organs (i.e., uterus, cervix, fallopian tubes and upper part of vagina) due to deficiency of anti-mullerian hormone or insensitivity of tissues to Anti Mullerian Hormone. We present a 19 year old male who came with complaint of right iliac fossa pain. He was investigated for acute appendicitis and on imaging, he was diagnosed to have bilateral cryptorchidism with rudimentary uterus...

The hip and lumbosacral joint centre (HJC and LSJC) predictions are required to analyse the lumbo-pelvic-hip dynamics during various human motions. Some HJC and LSJC regression equations based on pelvic dimension have been developed; however, the pre-existing methods need to be re-evaluated, and methodological reconsideration may improve the regression methods. Here we show that pre-existing methods produce biased predictions of the LSJC and HJC in 23 male and 24 female Japanese adults, and that the biases in the LSJC differ between sexes, using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) around the pelvis...

Spindle cell tumors exhibit a relatively low occurrence rate and can manifest in various locations within the human body, including soft tissues and bones. The process of making a diagnosis is supported by conducting pathological and immunohistochemical tests. A 50-year-old female patient visited the hospital with abdominal pain that lasted about a week. Magnetic resonance imaging of the pelvis showed that this mass was independent and was not a lymph node mass, but a retroperitoneal sarcoma type mass. As part of the treatment, the mass was surgically excised, and a supracervical hysterectomy was carried out...

A 21-year-old female presented to the hospital with acute onset left pelvic pain that began while urinating. Ultrasound of the pelvis revealed a 1.7 cm structure within the bladder wall. Follow-up imaging with magnetic resonance imaging confirmed a 1.9 cm mass in the urinary bladder wall. Cystoscopy with transurethral resection was performed. Histopathology of the obtained tissue confirmed the diagnosis of paraganglioma. Laboratory evaluation revealed evidence of catecholamine excess with elevated urine norepinephrine, urine normetanephrine, and plasma free normetanephrine...

Here, we discuss a case of a 42-year-old premenopausal female who presented with chronic pelvic pain and recurrent small bowel obstruction during menstruation. The patient reported a nine-year history of pelvic pain and a four-year history of episodic small bowel obstruction requiring multiple prior inpatient admissions. During these admissions, the obstruction was managed conservatively with bowel rest and nasogastric tube placement; however, symptoms would recur with subsequent menstrual cycles. Computed tomography showed diffusely dilated loops of small bowel with a transition point in the central anterior pelvis, and magnetic resonance enterography revealed a mass-like area involving small bowel loops in the mid pelvis...
