Colonic volvulus is one of the most common causes of bowel obstruction. It could occur in different parts of the colon. The sigmoid is the most common part, but it rarely occurs in the transverse colon because of the colon's anatomical features. So, simultaneous sigmoid and transverse colon volvulus is a rare phenomenon that could endanger patients' lives due to its rarity, ischemia, necrosis of the colon wall, and the lack of a definite algorithm to approach this disease. So, it is essential to consider this disease as one of the most important differential diagnoses in patients with abdominal pain and distention...

Volvulus of the colon is the third important reason for colon obstruction, which can occur in different parts of the colon for various reasons and can lead to ischemia and necrosis of the colon wall tissue. In this article, we are going to describe a simultaneous sigmoid and colon volvulus which was operated on with suspicion of sigmoid volvulus. A 72-year-old patient presented with suddenly severe generalized abdominal pain with a past medical history of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and prolonged constipation who underwent laparotomy for suspected colonic volvulus...

AIM: Longitudinally extensive transvers myelitis (LETM) is a rare and disabling condition in childhood. The aim of the present study was to share experiences from our center regarding the treatment features and clinical and radiologic course in our LETM patients in light of the literature data. MATERIAL AND METHOD: The study was designed as cross-sectional and included children who followed for LETM at our pediatric neurology clinic between 2010 and 2019. ATM was diagnosed according to the diagnostic criteria report from the Transverse Myelitis Consortium Working Group...

Összefoglaló. Egy 46 éves nőbeteg esetét ismertetjük, akinél láz és görcsös hasi fájdalom miatt kezdődött kivizsgálás. A hasi ultrahangvizsgálat során a colon transversum területén megvastagodott falú konglomerátum volt látható. A kolonoszkópia során organikus eltérés nem igazolódott. A hasi komputertomográfiás vizsgálat retroperitonealis térfoglalást írt le, ezért onkológiai bizottság javaslata alapján műtét mellett döntöttünk.

A giant colonic lipoma causing colo-colonic intussusception is extremely rare in adults. A 35-year-old woman visited our emergency room with abdominal pain, abdominal distension, nausea and vomiting. Physical examination showed a painful distended abdomen. Abdominal computed tomography revealed that there was a soft-tissue mass with a fat density of approximately 6 cm in diameter in the distal part of the transverse colon. Since the clinical presentation was that of a mechanical ileus, a laparotomy was performed...

A 76-year-old man visited our hospital with complaints of appetite loss and diarrhea. Abdominal computed tomography (CT)showed a large transverse colon tumor at the splenic flexure and a gastrocolic fistula. Upper gastrointestinal series and gastroscopy demonstrated a type 2 tumor in the transverse colon and a gastrocolic fistula as the scope was inserted into the transverse colon. Colonoscopy showed a type 2 tumor of the rectum. Based on the diagnosis of advanced transverse colon cancer with gastrocolic fistula and synchronous rectal cancer, a one-stage curative operation was performed...

A 68-year-old man with abdominal mass and anorexia was diagnosed with transvers colon cancer invading the abdominal wall. Considering the difficulty of curative resection, we first performed ileostomy. After surgery, the patient received mFOL FOX6 with bevacizumab as neoadjuvant chemotherapy. After 10 course of the regimen, computed tomography revealed shrinkage of the lesion, with the efficacy evaluated as a partial response. The patient underwent right hemicolectomy and partial resection of the abdominal wall...

The patient, 49-year-old woman, who was referred to our hospital in August 2016 because of left abdominal pain. The abdominal CT scan showed a large tumor, over 10 cm dimeter at splenic flexure of the transverse colon, and colonoscopy detected transvers colon cancer(por, cT4b, cN1, M0, cStage III A). There was no distant metastasis, although invasion to the retroperitoneum and the abdominal wall. Left hemicolectomy was successfully performed with D3 lymph node dissection. Pathological diagnosis was endocrine cell carcinoma, pT4a(SE), pN0, M0, pStage II ...

A 40-year-old woman presented with severe vaginal bleeding. Initial workup with an abdominal sonography revealed endometrium for about 3 mm and free fluid in the abdomen. Hemodynamic instability with abdominal pain and free fluid in the abdomen prompted blood transfusion and laparotomy. There were about 1000 cc blood and clots in the abdomen at laparotomy. There was a longitudinal rupture from fundus up to cervix at the left side of the uterus. Tearing was in full thickness from serosa to endometrium. Scar of previous cesarean was transvers and not associated with this tearing...

A 70-year-old woman who complained of abdominal pain and a prolapsed tumor from the anus was diagnosed with an intestinal obstruction resulting from anal canal cancer. Computed tomography(CT)and magnetic resonance imaging revealed a huge tumor(11×5×12 cm)invading the vagina and levator ani muscle. Enlarged inguinal lymph nodes on both sides indicated metastasis. The clinical stage was T4b(vagina, levator ani muscle, and pudenda)N0H0M1a(LYM), stageⅣ (Japanese Classification of Colorectal Carcinoma: 8th edition)...

INTRODUCTION: Ileorectal intussusception is a rare condition in adults in which the distal ileum, caecum, variable lengths of ascending and transvers colon, and associated mesentery invaginate into the rectum. PRESENTATION OF CASE: We present the case of a 56 year old man who presented to our hospital for investigation of vague symptoms including small volumes of bright red rectal bleeding and colicky abdominal pain. He was found on CT scanning to have an extensive ileorectal intussusception and extensive liver metastasis...

Low-grade fibromyxoid sarcoma is a slowly growing soft tissue neoplasm that shows benign histologic features but may have clinical course of malignant disease. It has been reported to occur in the thigh, inguinal area, axilla, shoulder, neck, perineum or buttock. However, there have been few cases of abdominal organ involvement. A 21-year-old woman presented with a large palpable abdominal mass. A 7×4 cm sized round soft tissue tumor at right upper quadrant area was identified by abdominopelvic CT scan. Percutaneous ultrasound-guided biopsy revealed features of spindle cell tumor...

Gallstone ileus is a complication of cholelithiasis resulting from a fistula between the gallbladder and the gastrointestinal tract. If sufficiently large, a gallstone may lodge at the narrowest part of the gastrointestinal tract, usually the terminal ileum, and present with small bowel obstruction. Here the authors present the unusual case of an 82-year-old man who developed symptoms and signs of large bowel obstruction due to an untreated gallstone, measuring 7×4.5 cm, that fistulated into the transvere colon and subsequently impacted in the sigmoid colon...

After sonography, computerized tomography, gastroduodenoscopy and colonoscopy the preoperative presumptive diagnosis was a carcinoma of the transvers colon invading the abdominal wall...
