Green ion imprinted polymers (IIPs) were prepared in aqueous phase via the synergy of three functional monomers of low-cost eco-friendly gelatin (G), 8-hydroxyquinoline (HQ) and chitosan (C), namely G-HQ-C IIPs, and were applied as an effective and recyclable adsorbent to remove Cu(II) from aqueous solution. The as-prepared G-HQ-C IIPs were systematically characterized, and several major factors affecting adsorption capacity including solution pH, temperature and contact time were investigated in detail. The adsorption of Cu(II) on G-HQ-C IIPs followed the pseudo-second-order kinetic and Langmuir isotherm models, and the adsorption capacity increased with temperature increase...

INTRODUCTION: Immediate implant placement (IIP) into fresh extraction socket is a favorable treatment option. If successfully managed, it reduces the overall treatment time, and increases patient's satisfaction. Surgical and restorative factors affect IIP success rates. In this systematic review we evaluate the effect of guided bone regeneration (GBR) at the time of IIP on crestal bone level (CBL) changes after at least 12-months of functional loading. METHODS: Reviewers conducted an independent search of the National Center for Biotechnology Information PubMed, Medline, and the Cochrane Collaboration Library from 1966 to January 2017 following the inclusion criteria...

INTRODUCTION: Idiopathic interstitial pneumonias (IIP) are diffuse lung diseases whose cause is unknown and often present with features of autoimmunity despite not meeting criteria for a connective tissue disease (CTD). Recent studies suggest that anti-RNA binding protein (anti-RBP) antibodies, which include anti-SSA, anti-SSB, anti-Sm, and anti-RNP, play a role in the loss of immune tolerance and severity of pulmonary hypertension (PH) in CTDs. We hypothesized that anti-RBP positive (RBP+) subjects would have worse measures of lung function, radiographic findings, PH, and survival than anti-RBP negative (RBP-) subjects...

OBJECTIVES: The general objective of this article is to study the unclear and overlapping relationship between social anxiety disorder (SAD) and avoidant personality disorder (AvPD) from an interpersonal perspective. The first specific objective is to compare the disorders with regard to interpersonal problems and general symptom distress. The second specific objective is to examine interpersonal subgroups and pathoplasticity. DESIGN: In a cross-sectional design, patients from an outpatient psychotherapy clinic diagnosed with social anxiety disorder (SAD, n = 299), avoidant personality disorder (AvPD, n = 180), or the comorbid condition of both disorders (AvPD + SAD, n = 29) were assessed before treatment...

To encourage screening for personality disorders (PDs), we developed (in previous work) self-report scales for PDs using the Inventory of Interpersonal Problems (IIP). The combined score from three of the scales-inter-personal sensitivity, interpersonal ambivalence, and aggression-requiring 15 items (IIP-15) did the best job of distinguishing between respondents with any versus no PD. The goals for the present work were (a) to cross-validate the IIP-15 by examining its performance using receiver operating characteristics (ROC) analyses in a new sample (N = 410), and (b) to investigate the utility of a brief three-item variant (IIP-3)...

AIMS: Although diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) commonly presents as a pure diabetic ketoacidosis (PDKA), up to 30% of cases may be associated with a mixed hypochloremic metabolic alkalosis (HMA). It is unknown whether there is a difference in treatment outcomes between these two entities. We evaluated an insulin infusion protocol (IIP), previously validated for hyperglycemia management in ICU's, for the management of PDKA and HMA. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective case series/cohort study of 41 DKA admissions was further characterized as having PDKA or HMA...

Background: Daijokito (DJKT), a classical traditional Kampo and Chinese medicine, has been used to treat acute pancreatitis in China. In our previous study, DJKT was found to reduce the area under the plasma concentration-time curve (AUC) of ranitidine in humans. Therefore, we established a novel rat model to examine the direct absorption of ranitidine after daijokito administration. Methods: An in situ intestinal injection with portal vein sampling (IIPS) model was created to determine the rate of intestinal drug absorption...

A 76-year-old Japanese woman with recurrent hepatocellular carcinoma presented with acute exacerbation of idiopathic interstitial pneumonia (AE-IIP) after transcatheter arterial therapy using miriplatin. She had a history of preexisting IIP five years before presenting at our hospital. On day 4 after transcatheter arterial therapy, she complained of shortness of breath. Subsequently, she developed acute respiratory failure on day 11 after transcatheter arterial therapy. Chest computed tomography revealed extensive ground-glass opacity and traction bronchiectasis in bilateral lung fields; subsequently, she was diagnosed with AE-IIP triggered by transcatheter arterial therapy using miriplatin...

Interstitial lung diseases (ILDs), also called diffuse parenchymal lung diseases, are a large heterogenous group of non-infectious, non-neoplastic disorders characterized by varied patterns of inflammation and fibrosis (Travis et al., 2002). In humans, accurate classification of interstitial lung diseases (ILDs) requires multidisciplinary collaboration between clinicians, radiologists and pathologists. The same is likely to be true for canine and feline ILDs; however, this collaborative approach is rarely taken, leading to a paucity of knowledge of ILDs in small animal species...

Background: Decorin is a small leucine-rich repeat proteoglycan that plays a critical role in collagen fibrillogenesis, and regulates inflammation, wound healing and angiogenesis. In idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), decorin is expressed in fibrotic lesions; furthermore, intratracheal gene transfer of decorin has been demonstrated to inhibit bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis. Although these results suggest the critical role of decorin in pulmonary fibrosis, the role of decorin in the acute exacerbation of idiopathic interstitial pneumonia (AE-IIP) has not been clarified in detail...

The diagnosis of idiopathic interstitial pneumonias (IIPs) involves a multidisciplinary scenario in which the radiologist assumes a key role. The latest (2013) update of the IIP classification by the American Thoracic Society/European Respiratory Society proposed some important changes to the original classification of 2002. The novelties include the addition of a new disease (idiopathic pleuroparenchymal fibroelastosis) and the subdivision of the IIPs into four main groups: chronic fibrosing IIPs (idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and nonspecific interstitial pneumonia); smoking-related IIPs (desquamative interstitial pneumonia and respiratory bronchiolitis-associated interstitial lung disease); acute or subacute IIPs (cryptogenic organizing pneumonia and acute interstitial pneumonia); rare IIPs (lymphoid interstitial pneumonia and idiopathic pleuroparenchymal fibroelastosis); and the so-called "unclassifiable" IIPs...
