Further research is necessary to estimate the influence of user characteristics, attitudes and (e)health-related competencies. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study is to identify meaningful predictors for SCA use considering user characteristics. METHODS: An explorative cross-sectional survey was conducted to investigate German citizens' demographics, eHealth literacy, hypochondria, self-efficacy, and affinity for technology using German language-validated questionnaires...

Exposure to stressful life events is common, and it is linked to increased psychological issues. As most likely people respond to stressors depending on environmental and genetic factors, we assessed in a twin study the association of some personal characteristics such as resilience and self-perception with anxiety, depression and stress in the late Covid pandemic period, to verify the underlying genetic and shared familial components. With this design, the strength of the associations was compared between individual-level and intrapair-level analyses...

Hallucinogen Persisting Perception Disorder (HPPD) is considered rare in hallucinogen users although there are conflicting reports about its incidence and prevalence. HPPD may be more common in those with trait neuroticism. In this study, we invited hallucinogen and other drug users to complete an online questionnaire about their use of hallucinogens, their experience of HPPD symptoms, and their trait neuroticism and mental health symptoms. We received 802 responses with 415 of these containing adequate data for further analysis...

The study aims to determine the prevalence of MSS among health professions students to identify its effect on the student academic performance and to recognize the awareness of MSS among health professions students. The ingested foreign body is a very unusual etiology of liver abscess. This clinical scenario is infrequently reported in the literature. A 66-year-old male patient presented to the hospital because of abdominal pain along with 7 days of right upper quadrant pain and intermittent low-grade fever. He was living in an epidemiological area of Fasciola infection. Physical examination showed right hypochondria tenderness without guarding or rebounding. Laboratory results were significant for leukocytosis, predominant neutrophils, and increased inflammatory markers...

Histologically benign splenic cysts (SCs) resemble splenic sacs. SCs are rare. Here, we present and discuss a new case of bilateral endometriotic cystic ovaries with massive SCs. A 26-year-old single female visited the hospital with left lower quadrant discomfort and suprapubic pain for three months, accompanied by anorexia, weight loss for these three months, and persistent dysmenorrhea for two years. Splenic examination revealed a soft abdomen with left hypochondria, suprapubic tenderness, and a lump in the upper left quadrant...

A 47-year-old highly educated man without psychiatric history was referred for psychiatric evaluation because of persistent subjective cognitive decline after repeated and extensive diagnostic evaluation in an outpatient memory clinic. The patient developed increasing preoccupation and anxiety with memory complaints and concerns, despite repetitive negative findings from clinical investigations. This clinical case is coined as ‘neurocognitive hypochondria’, a syndrome interfacing with cogniform and illness anxiety disorders, in which obsessions and concerns about progression of unexplained memory deficits are indicated for specialized treatment...

Illness anxiety may amplify vulnerability to psychopathological symptoms during the COVID-19-pandemic-perhaps especially at the beginning of the pandemic and during high infection waves, but empirical evidence on this is lacking. In addition, considering a potentially functional facet of it, illness anxiety might be associated with higher vaccine willingness. We analyzed data of a nine-wave longitudinal online-survey (March 2020-October 2021) with 8148 non-probability sampled adults of the general population in Germany (clinicaltrials...

Fain's theoretical conceptualisation of the 'Censorship of the Lover' (1971) offers a framework to investigate the unrepresented traumatic aspects of the hypochondriacal fear of breast cancer. The failure of the maternal role to function as both the mother-of-the-infant and the lover-of-the-father creates considerable deficits in the primal psychosomatic tie. The authors aim to draw attention on to the importance of the mother-of-the-infant facet of the dual maternal function. The threatening repetitive scenario experienced by the hypochondriacal patient is considered as a form of pathological autoerotism, indicating an insufficient construction of psychic bisexuality, and, subsequently, of sexual identity...

Methodological approaches to assess the human cognitive status are constantly evolving. At the same time, the creation of new assessment methods is accompanied by traditional research. This paper discusses the direction of research on the search for markers of stress resilience. The basis for the formation of the research algorithm was the assessment of activation factors of emotional states, including preceding stress-sensory (cognitive and informational) and psycho-emotional factors. This was determined using methodological techniques, stress factors, working conditions in professional teams, etc...

The CAS scores increased with knowing and caring for an individual with COVID-19, following social distancing guidelines, hours talking and thinking about COVID-19, hypochondria, neuroticism, depression, anxiety, stress, negative PANAS, and time, whereas they decreased with positive PANAS. More importantly, the CAS scores were higher for participants from blue states than for participants from purple states, and the positive relation between CAS scores and time was only significant for participants from blue states...
