INTRODUCTION: Video urodynamics (UDS) has classically been performed using fluoroscopy (fluoro). Contrast enhanced voiding ultrasonography (ceVUS) has rarely been reported for use with UDS. This is the first study to compare the imaging characteristics of ceVUS versus fluoro UDS. METHODS: Children were enrolled for ceVUS UDS who previously underwent fluoro UDS. Demographics, imaging data for ceVUS and fluoro UDS, time between studies, and clinical data between studies were recorded...

INTRODUCTION: Herein, we provide a review of the indications, practical considerations, and interpretation of urodynamics (UDS) with or without fluoroscopy, as well as cystourethroscopy, for women with suspected bladder outlet obstruction (BOO). METHODS AND RESULTS: A narrative review was performed focusing on the current primary literature and society guidelines around advanced diagnostic modalities for female BOO patients. UDS studies help diagnose BOO by identifying high-pressure low-flow voiding patterns and/or the characteristic radiographic appearance of the bladder neck and urethra during micturition...

BACKGROUND: Compelling evidence exists for the iso-effectiveness and safety of moderate hypofractionated radiotherapy (Hypo-RT) schedules [1, 2]. However, international guidelines are not congruent regarding recommendation of ultrahypofractionated radiotherapy (UHF-RT) to all risk groups. METHODS: The current review gives an overview of clinically relevant toxicity extracted from major randomized controlled trials (RCT) trials comparing conventional to hypofractionated regimes in the primary setting of external photon radiation...

BACKGROUND: Duplication of the bladder with duplication of the posterior urethra is a relatively rare congenital malformation. Cases of sagittal septum duplication of the bladder with duplication of the posterior urethra have rarely been reported. Furthermore, the combination thereof with congenital megacolon is rare. CASE PRESENTATION: A 21-year-old male was admitted to our hospital because of frequent urination for two months. He presented to another hospital first with frequent urination and underwent computed tomography (CT) and testicular biopsy...

Cavernous hemangioma is a benign vascular tumor occurring in all parts of the urinary system, including kidney, bladder, prostate, ureter, and rarely urethra. Herein, we report management and follow up course of three cases of female urethral cavernous hemangioma (FUCH). All three cases were menopause women presented with lower urinary tract symptoms. Cytoscopic evaluation revealed urethral hemangioma in all of them confirmed by histopathological evaluation. Definite diagnosis is made by histopathologic evaluation...

INTRODUCTION: A session at the 2023 International Consultation on Incontinence - Research Society (ICI-RS) held in Bristol, UK, focused on the question: Is the time right for a new initiative in mathematical modeling of the lower urinary tract (LUT)? The LUT is a complex system, comprising various synergetic components (i.e., bladder, urethra, neural control), each with its own dynamic functioning and high interindividual variability. This has led to a variety of different types of models for different purposes, each with advantages and disadvantages...

The decline of urethral function with advancing age plays a major role in urinary incontinence in women, impairing quality of life and economically burdening the health care system. However, none of the current urinary incontinence treatments address the declining urethral function with aging, and the mechanisms by which aging impacts urethra physiology remain little known or explored. Here, we have compared functional, morphometric, and global gene expression of urethral tissues between young and old female mice...

INTRODUCTION: Dysfunctional voiding (DV) is a habitual voiding disorder caused by involuntary contraction or non-relaxation of the external urethral sphincter (EUS) during voiding. This contraction causes high post-void residuals (PVR), urinary incontinence and urinary tract infections (UTIs). Various treatments for DV are available, but some children do not respond. Intersphincteric botulinum toxin-A (BTX-A) may be a possible treatment for therapy-refractory children with DV. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this systematic review is to summarize the effects and safety of intersphincteric BTX-A as a treatment for therapy-refractory DV in children...

Prolonged urinary incontinence represents one of the most severe complications after a radical prostatectomy procedure, significantly affecting patients' quality of life. In an attempt to ameliorate postprostatectomy continence rates, several sphincter preservation techniques have been reported. The purpose of this article is to report several different sphincter preservation techniques and identify the ones which affect postoperative outcomes the most. For our narrative review, PubMed was searched using the keywords "sphincter," "continence," "preservation," "techniques," and "prostatectomy...

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a prevalent condition among older men that is characterized by the enlargement of the prostate gland and compression of the urethra, which often results in lower urinary tract symptoms, such as frequent urination, difficulty in starting urination, and incomplete bladder emptying. The development of BPH is thought to be primarily due to an imbalance between cell proliferation and apoptosis, underlying inflammation, epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition, and local paracrine and autocrine growth factors, although the exact molecular mechanisms are not yet fully understood...

During cloacal reconstruction, we consider both common channel (CC) and urethral length when deciding between total urogenital mobilization (TUM) and a urogenital separation (UGS). Our concern about TUM in the case of a short urethra is resultant bladder neck incompetence, while conversion to UGS after completing the TUM dissection may result in urethral injury. Use of an interposition flap harvested from the ischiorectal fossa is another measure we use to prevent potential complications.

BACKGROUND: Vesicourethral anastomosis stenosis (VUAS) refers to the diameter narrowing of a vesicourethral anastomosis (VUA). It is a known complication after radical prostatectomy that nowadays presents in less than 1% of these cases [1,2]. When the lumen narrows sufficiently to impede urine flow, obstructive symptoms arise [2]. While the incidence of VUAS used to be notably higher prior to the widespread use of the robotic approach, traditional procedures still fail in up to 42% of cases [1,3]...
