Patient experience is globally recognized as an important indicator of health system performance, linked to health system quality and improving patient outcomes. Post COVID-19, health systems have embraced digital health and advanced digital transformation efforts; however, the relationship between digital health and patient experience outcomes is not well-documented. Using HCAHPS hospital survey data to measure patient experience, and HIMSS EMRAM Maturity Model data to measure digital maturity, a cross-sectional design using multivariate analyses examined the impact of digital maturity on patient experience in US hospitals...

Sensitive images represent a new challenge in enterprise imaging. These images, often containing nudity or gruesome content, have the potential to cause emotional harm to patients and people who view the images. Unfortunately, the interoperability standards used in imaging informatics have not yet addressed this issue. Because of this, the software solutions used in healthcare information technology are not able to offer patients and other viewers of image protections. In this Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS)/Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM) Enterprise Imaging Community Whitepaper, we define sensitive images, identify unique challenges related to their management, and provide recommendations for future solutions to protect our patients...

BACKGROUND: The digitalization studies in public hospitals in Türkiye started with the Health Transformation Program in 2003. As digitalization was accomplished, the policymakers needed to measure hospitals' electronic health record (EHR) usage and adoptions. The ministry of health has been measuring the dissemination of meaningful usage and adoption of EHR since 2013 using Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM). The first published study about this analysis covered the surveys applied between 2013 and 2017...

The impact of Covid-19 on hospitals was profound, with many lower-resourced hospitals' information technology resources inadequate to efficiently meet the new needs. We interviewed 52 personnel at all levels in two New York City hospitals to understand their issues in emergency response. The large differences in IT resources show the need for a schema to classify hospital IT readiness for emergency response. Here we propose a set of concepts and model, inspired by the Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) maturity model...

BACKGROUND: During the past two decades, various sectors and industries have undergone digital transformation. Healthcare is poised to make a full transformation in the near future. Although steps have been taken toward creating an infrastructure for digital health in the Middle East, as it stands, digital health is still an emerging field here. The current global health care crisis has underscoredthe need for digitization of the healthcare sector to provide high-value, high-quality care and knowledge generation...

BACKGROUND: Medication errors can cause severe injuries and may lead to death. Electronic health records (EHRs) that are well designed and implemented could help to reduce medication errors. The medication management process needs close study to understand how medication safety metrics evolve as hospitals mature in terms of their EHR implementation. OBJECTIVE: To examine the effect of adopting EHRs on medication errors at the Royal Commission Hospital in Jubail, Saudi Arabia, a Health Information Management System Society (HIMSS) stage 6 hospital...

Despite technological advances in the analysis of digital images for medical consultations, many health information systems lack the ability to correlate textual descriptions of image findings linked to the actual images. Images and reports often reside in separate silos in the medical record throughout the process of image viewing, report authoring, and report consumption. Forward-thinking centers and early adopters have created interactive reports with multimedia elements and embedded hyperlinks in reports that connect the narrative text with the related source images and measurements...

OBJECTIVE: We investigated how the electronic health records (EHRs) strategies concerning EHR sourcing and vendor switching impact user satisfaction over time. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study used a novel longitudinal dataset created by scraping clinicians' Glassdoor.com reviews on 109 US health systems from 2012 to 2017 and combining it with the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) database. We performed sentiment analysis of clinician reviews to construct our main dependent variable, user satisfaction...

Open-source Electronic Health Records (OS-EHRs) are of pivotal importance in the management, operations, and administration of any healthcare organization. With the advancement of health informatics, researchers and healthcare practitioners have proposed various frameworks to assess the maturation of Open-source EHRs. The significance of OS-EHRs stems from the fact that vendor-based EHR implementations are becoming financially burdensome, with some vendors raking in more than $1 billion with one contract. Contrarily, the adoption of OS-EHRs suffers from a lack of systematic evaluation from the standpoint of a standard reference model...

Photodocumentation is a subset of visible light imaging and is an important growing segment of enterprise imaging. Medical videography is another subset of visible light imaging that shares many of the challenges of photodocumentation. Medical photographs are used to document clinical conditions, support diagnosis, guide, and document procedures and to enable collaboration among colleagues. They also play a significant role in patient engagement and are a mechanism for patients to share information with their provider without the need for a clinical office visit...

Integrated behavioral health and primary care is a set of related approaches to enhance care delivery, safety, and quality through closer collaboration and coordination among clinicians and care organizations in these two fields. Technology (e.g., electronic health records (EHR), telehealth, clinical decision support, and standards-based interoperability) can enable integration and improve delivery of care. Reinforcing these opportunities, virtual care and telehealth have dramatically changed care availability and delivery, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic...

Diagnostic and evidential static image, video clip, and sound multimedia are captured during routine clinical care in cardiology, dermatology, ophthalmology, pathology, physiatry, radiation oncology, radiology, endoscopic procedural specialties, and other medical disciplines. Providers typically describe the multimedia findings in contemporaneous electronic health record clinical notes or associate a textual interpretative report. Visual communication aids commonly used to connect, synthesize, and supplement multimedia and descriptive text outside medicine remain technically challenging to integrate into patient care...
