OBJECTIVES: To undertake a prospective multicentre national audit of penile prosthesis practice in the UK over a 3-year period. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Data were submitted by urological surgeons as part of the British Association of Urological Surgeons Penile Prosthesis National Audit. Patients receiving a penile prosthesis (inflatable or malleable) were included as part of a prospective registry over a 3-year period. Data were validated and then analysed using a software package (Tableau)...

INTRODUCTION: Erectile dysfunction is a multifactorial disorder that increases in prevalence as men age. When medical therapy fails or when men are unwilling to try it, surgical intervention becomes the urologist's next best tool. However, the loss of penile length is of great concern to many patients, and there have been a myriad of ways to try to combat this fear from both patients and the surgeons themselves. In this review, we evaluate the current literature of these various approaches to improve penile length in penile prosthesis surgery...

BACKGROUND: A xenograft consisting of equine collagen coated with human fibrinogen and thrombin (TachoSil; Baxter, CA) has recently been introduced in grafting procedures for Peyronie's disease (PD). AIM: To describe the results of a multicenter prospective registry on patients with PD undergoing plaque incision or and grafting (PIG) or plaque excision and grafting (PEG) with collagen fleece TachoSil, to evaluate the efficacy and safety of this procedure. METHODS: A prospective non-controlled multicenter study of patients with PD was performed between May 2016 and March 2018...

INTRODUCTION: Clinical trials of cell therapy for erectile dysfunction (ED) and Peyronie's disease (PD) were recently conducted after preclinical studies. AIMS: The aims of this study are to give an update on biotherapy for ED and PD and to describe the regulatory framework for these therapies. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A literature review was performed through PubMed and Clinical.trials.gov addressing cell therapy for ED and PD and using following keywords "erectile dysfunction", "Peyronie's disease", "stem cell", and "platelet-rich plasma"...

OBJECTIVES: Environmental contamination by patients with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) through respiratory droplets suggests that surfaces and equipment could be a medium of transmission. We aimed to assess the surface and equipment contamination by SARS-COV-2 of an emergency department (ED) during the coronavirus infectious disease-2019 (COVID-19) outbreak. METHODS: We performed multiple samples from different sites in ED patients care and non-patient care areas with sterile premoistened swabs and used real-time reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) to detect the presence of SARS-CoV-2 ribonucleic acid (RNA)...

The intraplaque injection of collagenase from Clostridium Histolyticum (CCH) was established as an effective therapeutic alternative for selected patients with Peyronie's disease (PD). There is no consensus on the use of pre-procedure anaesthesia. The aim of this pilot study was to assess the efficacy and safety of dorsal penile block before CCH injections in reducing procedure related pain. The treatment protocol described in the IMPRESS trials was adopted. The first injection of the first cycle was given without anaesthesia, while the second after penile block...

OBJECTIVE: To study, in a multi-institutional setting, the efficacy/safety outcomes in acute phase Peyronie's disease (PD) of multiple high-volume centers employing CCH to treat PD, which is defined as the abnormal formation of fibrous plaque(s) in the tunica albuginea of the penis. It is a chronic condition that afflicts 3%-13% of the US male population. There is no current multi-institutional research on the efficacy and safety of collagenase Clostridium histolyticum (CCH) in the treatment of acute phase PD...

BACKGROUND: Myofibroblast transformation is a key step in the pathogenesis of Peyronie's disease (PD). Phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors (PDE5is) and selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs) can prevent the formation of fibrosis in in vitro and in vivo models of PD. However, it is unknown whether these drugs can also reverse established fibrosis. AIM: To investigate whether PDE5is and SERMs can reverse transforming growth factor beta 1 (TGF-β1)-induced myofibroblast transformation and determine the point of no return...

We aimed to evaluate the relationship between serum testosterone (T) levels and penile curvature in a cohort of men presenting for chronic phase Peyronie's disease (PD). Clinical data from 149 patients assessed for chronic phase PD between 2016 and 2019 at a single academic center were analyzed. Deformity assessment was conducted during an intracavernosal injection-induced rigid erection. Both total T (tT) and calculated free T (cFT) were assessed in every patient and considered as continuous variables or according to quartiles of the normal range...

Peyronie disease (PD) is a benign, superficial fibromatosis involving the fascial structures of the penis, causing deformity, pain, and loss of function, for which there are few contemporary studies of the histopathology. We performed a multi-institutional review of 74 routine and consultation specimens submitted with clinical concern for PD. Of these, three non-PD lesions were identified and excluded (a myointimoma, a mammary-type myofibroblastoma, and fibrocalcific atherosclerosis). Of the 71 confirmed to be PD, the majority of patients were white (83%), with a median age of 55 years (range: 26-88)...

Streaming video has emerged as a dominant content-delivery medium for healthcare information, with over 30 million visitors daily to the YouTube platform alone. Videos related to men's health have proliferated, but content produced by trained health care providers remains scarce. We evaluated educational YouTube streaming videos created in collaboration with a large, university-based health system focused on male factor infertility, men's health, and Peyronie's disease, uploaded during 2016-2018. All videos featured a board-certified urologist with fellowship training in andrology...

INTRODUCTION: Peyronie's disease (PD) is an inflammatory disorder of the tunica albuginea causing fibrotic changes including abnormal penile curvature, pain, and erectile dysfunction. Approximately 10% of PD patients will have atypical features including ventral plaques, hourglass deformities, unilateral indentations, severely shortened penile length, and multiplanar curvatures. Currently, the only intralesional treatment approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration is considered off-label for atypical PD...
