Myrica rubra is well known for its delicious taste and high nutritional value. The present study investigated the potential protective effects and mechanisms of M. rubra flavonoids (MRF) extract on isoproterenol (ISO)‑induced myocardial injury in rats and hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R) injury in H9c2 cardiomyocytes. An in vivo study revealed that MRF decreased serum cardiac enzyme levels, ameliorated pathological heart alterations and increased the antioxidant potential. Emodin is a natural product extracted from Rheum palmatum. There are few recent studies on emodin in the treatment of myocarditis. Four new C-geranyl flavonoids, paulownione D-G (1-4) were isolated from the 50% acetone-H2 O extract of the flowers of Paulownia fortunei. The structures of the compounds were determined by extensive spectroscopic analyses (UV, IR, HR-ESI-MS, 1D and 2D NMR). All of the compounds (1-4) exhibited potent protection effects in H9c2 cardiocytes against the lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammation.

Herein, we investigated the effects of B. diffusa (BDE), a well-known cardiotonic edible medicinal plant against apoptosis in Angiotensin II (Ang II)-stimulated hypertrophic cardiac cells (H9c2).
