Plasmablastic lymphoma is a rare subtype of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, which generally presents an aggressive clinical course and low survival rates. It is strongly associated with HIV infection and the most common site of involvement of the territory of the head and neck is Waldeyer's lymphatic ring, followed by the gastrointestinal tract, lymph nodes and skin. Lymphomas are solid tumors of the lymphatic system and these are divided into Hodgkin's and non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Non-Hodgkin tumors may originate from non-nodal tissues such as the gastrointestinal tract and they are considered primary when extranodal involvement is equal to or greater than 75% according to the nodal involvement. Following acute hepatitis C virus infection (HCV), a significant percentage of patients do not clear the virus and develop a chronic hepatitis C. The symptoms, when they exist, are usually unspecific. Besides, approximately one third of the patients present extrahepatic manifestations of the infection, basically due to the lymphotropism of HCV. Outstanding amongst these, due to their clear association with HCV, are mixed cryoglobulinaemia and the production of autoantibodies (autoAb).
