PURPOSE: As oculofacial surgeons performing esthetic surgery, the most valuable result is a satisfied patient. It can be extremely frustrating to have an unhappy patient with, what we believe is, a satisfactory result. Therefore, the ability to predict satisfaction is of extreme importance. We studied our cosmetic eyelid surgery patients to try to find factors that can predict satisfaction. METHODS: We retrospectively studied 454 consecutive patients, who underwent any combination of 7 cosmetic surgical procedures...

BACKGROUND: Traditional facial aging surgeries have risks and extended recovery times, leading to a demand for minimally invasive alternatives. PDO (polydioxanone) threads, which are absorbable sutures that stimulate collagen production and tissue contraction, offer improved aesthetic outcomes. This paper evaluates the combined use of PDO thread mid-cheek lift and lower blepharoplasty for facial rejuvenation. METHODS: This retrospective study compared outcomes in patients undergoing lower blepharoplasty combined with a mid-face lift using PDO threads versus those undergoing only lower blepharoplasty...

BACKGROUND: High-eyelid fold is a common complication of upper eyelid surgery. This study proposed a novel technique for correcting high-eyelid fold in Asian patients with little eyelid skin and thick orbital fascia to improve cosmetic outcomes and patient satisfaction. METHODS: We retrospectively analysed the clinical data of 38 patients with high-eyelid fold repaired at the Plastic Surgery Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, from July 2017 to April 2022...

INTRODUCTION: This study is a case of solitary clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) eyelid metastasis in a 66-year-old man as the first sign of a primary tumor. ccRCC usually spreads to the lungs, mediastinum, bones, liver, and brain, while ocular metastases are rare. CASE PRESENTATION: Solitary metastasis presented as a solid mass in the central third of the upper eyelid, which has been growing for 3 weeks. Treatment included tumor removal and blepharoplasty...

Background and objective  Cosmetic surgery is a field that primarily focuses on the preservation, rebuilding, or improvement of the physical appearance of an individual through surgical and therapeutic methods. This specialization encompasses various interventions, both surgical, such as blepharoplasty, rhinoplasty, and breast augmentation, and non-surgical, including procedures such as chemical peeling, Botox injections, and dermal fillers. This study aims to assess the acceptance of cosmetic surgeries and non-surgical cosmetic procedures and the reasons for non-acceptance in a population from Jazan, Saudi Arabia...

Background The periorbital area undergoes transformative changes with age, influencing both aesthetic appearance and functional aspects of the eyelids. Age-related alterations involve volume loss, shifts in eyelid crease position, drooping eyebrows, reduced skin elasticity, and the presence of dermatochalasis. Dermatochalasis, characterized by redundant upper eyelid skin folds, poses aesthetic and functional challenges, impacting visual acuity and eyelid elevation efficiency. Upper blepharoplasty addresses these age-related changes...

OBJECTIVES: To present three cases of serious corneal complications after seemingly minor and uncomplicated eyelid surgery. METHODS: These cases emphasize the real-world risk of corneal damage after oculoplastic surgery. RESULTS: The first case is a 46-year-old man referred to our department with a corneal perforation after bilateral blepharoplasty of both upper and lower eyelids. The second case concerns a 51-year-old woman who suffered an accidental coagulation of the cornea during the removal of upper eyelid papillomas, and the third case is a 55-year-old woman who had severe corneal thinning accompanied by visual loss after an upper lid blepharoplasty...

PURPOSE: To assess the clinical outcomes of fat repositioning via supraperiosteal dissection with midface lift for correction of tear trough deformity in a large Asian patient population. METHODS: Retrospectively review 1152 Asian patients who underwent fat repositioning to the supraperiosteal plane with a midface lift between 2005 and 2022. Surgical technique, postoperative course, and complications were recorded. At the 6-month postoperative follow-up, the degree of patient satisfaction was assessed...

PURPOSE: To compare the incidence of strabismus after upper and lower blepharoplasty in the United States. METHODS: Retrospective cohort study of adults (age ≥18 years) in the IRIS Registry (Intelligent Research in Sight) who underwent blepharoplasty between January 1, 2013 and December 31, 2020. The primary outcome was the Kaplan-Meier estimated cumulative incidence of strabismus diagnosis and surgery within 3 years of blepharoplasty. Multivariable Cox regression was used to determine the association of blepharoplasty type with strabismus diagnosis and surgery, adjusting for patient age, sex, and geographic region...

BACKGROUND: We hypothesized that application of acellular dermal matrix (ADM) over the orbital septum overlying the herniated orbital fat to tighten and strengthen the attenuated orbital septum in lower blepharoplasty would allow successful repositioning of the herniated orbital fat within the bony orbit. METHODS: The author prospectively compared the cosmetic outcomes of lower blepharoplasty using ADM with standard blepharoplasty. We evaluated recurrence of eyelid bulging and tear trough deformity, volume of the lower periorbital region, and enophthalmos and eyelid droop 1 year after surgery...

Facelift surgery, also known as rhytidectomy, is a popular cosmetic procedure aimed at reversing the signs of facial aging. While facelift surgery is more commonly performed in women, an increasing number of men are seeking this procedure to maintain a youthful appearance. The long recovery period conflicts the overall primary outcome anticipated by men undergoing rhytidectomy, i.e., appear younger, youthful, and ready to reaffirm their value in the working environment. Anterior direct neck lift, blepharoplasty (upper and lower eyelid blepharoplasty), and lipofilling are three techniques that have been shown to be effective in improving facial rejuvenation outcomes in elderly male patients...

Conjunctival chemosis usually undergoes spontaneous resolution; sometimes, it requires treatment. We present the case of a 43 years-old female patient who developed bilateral conjunctival chemosis following upper and lower blepharoplasty. Two months after the operation, patient underwent bilateral snip conjunctivoplasty with methylene blue demarcation of the chemotic conjunctiva.

OBJECTIVE: The present study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of minimally invasive 980 nm laser-assisted lipolysis and skin tightening in lower eyelid blepharoplasty of Asian patients. METHODS: Patients with mild and moderate degree of eyebags underwent 980 nm laser-assisted lipolysis via lower eyelid stab incision between December 2017 and December 2019. Evaluation criteria was reviewed by photographs taken preoperatively and 6 months postoperatively in accordance with guidelines of Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale, the patient's perspective from the questionnaire with the perception of reduction in eyebags size, the average perception of improvement in skin tightening, and the patient overall satisfaction, all with a score of 1 to 5 (5 being the most noticeable and very satisfied) and complications such as dyspigmentation, hematoma, prolonged edema, skin bump and thermal burn were documented as well...

BACKGROUND: Midcheek lift has been used for cosmetic or reconstructive surgery of the lower eyelid. For midcheek lift through the subciliary incision, preperiosteal and subperiosteal dissections are the most used, with good clinical outcomes. However, a comparative assessment of the effects of these two methods was not conducted. OBJECTIVES: This study compared the effects of midcheek lift according to the plane preperiosteal and subperiostial plane and range of midfacial dissection...

Upper eyelid blepharoplasty reduces upper tarsal strength and may have an impact on ocular surface.
