BACKGROUND: Compared to humans, colorectal polyps are relatively rare in dogs. Epidemiological and prognostic data remain accordingly sparse, although they could help veterinary clinicians in the management of these cases. OBJECTIVES: To report the epidemiological data of dogs with colorectal polyps and identify factors associated with recurrence and survival. ANIMALS: Fifty-eight client-owned dogs with colorectal polyps admitted to 7 veterinary hospitals (53 dogs from France, 5 dogs from Spain, and 4 dogs from Portugal) were included...

Rotavirus A species (RVA), RVB, RVC, and RVH are four species of rotaviruses (RVs) that are prevalent in pig herds, and co-infections occur frequently. In this study, a quadruplex real-time quantitative RT-PCR (RT-qPCR) for the simultaneous detection of four porcine RVs was developed by designing specific primers and probes based on the VP6 gene of RVA, RVB, RVC, and RVH, respectively. The method showed high specificity and could only detect RVA, RVB, RVC, and RVH, without cross-reaction with other porcine viruses; showed excellent sensitivity, with a limit of detection (LOD) of 1...

Patients with inborn errors of immunity (IEI) may develop granulomas in multiple organ systems including the skin. Vaccine strain rubella virus (RuV), part of the live attenuated measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine, has been identified within these granulomas. RuV is typically found in macrophages; however, recently neutrophils have been identified as a novel cell type infected. Here, we present a case of RuV-associated cutaneous granuloma with RuV localized to neutrophils. A 46-year-old female with common variable immunodeficiency presented with verrucous papules and crusted plaques from the right knee to the distal shin of 20 years duration, associated with prior physical trauma...

The present study reports the detection and molecular characterisation of rotavirus C (RVC) in sloth bears (Melursus ursinus) rescued from urban areas in India. Based on an RVC VP6 gene-targeted diagnostic RT-PCR assay, 48.3% (42/87) of sloth bears tested positive for RVC infection. The VP6, VP7, and NSP4 genes of three sloth bear RVC isolates (UP-SB19, 21, and 37) were further analysed. The VP6 genes of RVC UP-SB21 and 37 isolates were only 37% identical. The sequence identity, TM-score from structure alignment, and selection pressure (dN/dS) of VP6 UP-SB37 with pig and human RVCs isolates were (99...

Rotaviruses are causative agents of diarrhea in humans and animals. Currently, the species rotavirus A-J (RVA-RVJ) and the putative species RVK and RVL are defined, mainly based on their genome sequence identities. RVK strains were first identified in 2019 in common shrews (Sorex aranaeus) in Germany; however, only short sequence fragments were available so far. Here, we analyzed the complete coding regions of strain RVK/shrew-wt/GER/KS14-0241/2013, which showed highest sequence identities with RVC. The amino acid sequence identity of VP6, which is used for rotavirus species definition, reached only 51% with other rotavirus reference strains thus confirming classification of RVK as a separate species...

Species C rotaviruses (RVC) are the second most common rotavirus species known to cause gastroenteritis in humans and pigs and with occurrence documented in cattle, dogs, ferrets, and sloth bears. Despite the host-specific nature of RVC genotypes, cross-species transmission, reassortment, and recombination events are also documented. In the present study, we inferred the evolutionary history of globally circulating RVC strains, including time scale stasis, the most probable ancestral country, and the most probable source host using Bayesian methods implemented in BEAST v...

The sympathetic nervous system is important for cardiovascular regulation, particularly during acute stress. Efferent sympathetic outflow can be regulated in an organ-dependent manner, but whether renal and leg vasoconstriction is associated at rest or during sympathetic stressors is unknown. Therefore, we sought to determine the relationships between muscle sympathetic nerve activity (MSNA), leg vascular conductance (LVC), and renal vascular conductance (RVC) at rest and during common laboratory-based sympathoexcitatory stimuli in a cohort of young healthy adults...

RATIONALE: Right ventricular (RV) contractile dysfunction commonly occurs and worsens outcomes in heart failure patients with reduced ejection fraction and pulmonary hypertension (HFrEF-PH). However, such dysfunction often goes undetected by standard clinical RV indices, raising concerns that they may not reflect aspects of underlying myocyte dysfunction. The management of persistent postoperative pain still remains a clinical challenge currently. Although ropivacaine (RVC) is widely used for postoperative analgesia as a local anesthetic, the short half-life makes it difficult to achieve the desired duration of analgesia. Herein, a novel RVC sustained-release microspheres encapsulated by zeolite imidazole framework-8 (RVC@ZIF-8) was synthesized for the first time, which prolonged the sustained-release of RVC and decreased the resulting drug toxicity. RVC can continuously release in vitro for at least 96 h with high drug loading of 30...

Rotaviruses (RV) have a high prevalence in piggeries worldwide and are one of the major pathogens causing severe diarrhoea in young pigs. RV species A, B, and C have been linked to piglet diarrhoea in Australian pig herds, but their genetic diversity has not been studied in detail. Based on sequencing of the structural viral protein 7 (VP7) RVA G genotypes G3, G4 and G5, and RVC types G1, G3, G5, and G6 have been identified in Australian piggeries in previous studies. Although occurrence of RVB was reported in Australia in 1988, no further genetic analysis has been conducted...

The retinal vessel caliber (RVC) is an important biomarker of cardiovascular diseases, which can be semi-automatically measured by fundus photography. This review investigated the associations between the RVCs and the life styles of early life, such as physical activity (PA), sedentary behavior (SB), dietary and sleep, by summarizing the findings from studies on children and adolescents. Two databases (Medline and Embase) were searched from their inception to 30 June 2022. The selected studies were literatures on observational designs, fundus photographs, retinal vessels and lifestyles of children or adolescents...
