In the transportation of petroleum, large amount of oil polluted water will be produced, and the oil polluted water pumping into ocean will destroy ocean environment. To address oil-bearing ballast water, we fabricated a novel type of Fe-C microelectrolysis filler by using magnet powder, coconut shell biochar powder, bentonite, ammonium oxalate, and nickel powder. The COD and oil content removal efficiencies of 100 g/L oily wastewater were approximately 79.82% and 91.68%, respectively, after 100 min treatment at the following conditions: Fe-C mass ratio, 5:1; bentonite content, 20%; calcination temperature, 900 °C; calcination time, 2 h; ammonium oxalate content, 1...

Magnetic hydrogels have promising applications in flexible electronics, biomedical devices, and soft robots. However, most existing magnetic hydrogels are fragile and suffered by insufficient magnetic response. In this paper, we present a new approach to fabricate a strong, tough, and adhesive magnetic hydrogel with non-toxic PAAm hydrogel as the matrix and the functional additive (3-(Trimethoxysilyl) propyl methacrylate (TMSPMA) coated Fe3 O4 ) as the inclusions. This magnetic hydrogel not only offers a relatively high modulus and toughness compared to the pure hydrogel, but also responds to the magnetic field rapidly due to a high magnetic particle content (up to 38wt%, with respect to the total weight of the polymers and water)...

On account of unique characteristics, the integration of metal-organic frameworks as active materials in electronic devices attracts more and more attention. The film thickness, uniformity, area, and roughness are all fatal factors limiting the development of electrical and optoelectronic applications. However, research focused on ultrathin free-standing films is in its infancy. Herein, a new method, vapor-induced method, is designed to construct centimeter-sized Ni3 (HITP)2 films with well-controlled thickness (7, 40, and 92 nm) and conductivity (0...

In this work, magnetic mesoporous silica microspheres (Mag-MSMs) with ordered radial mesochannels were fabricated by a self-assembly synthesis in chlorobenzene-water mixed system. Then, the obtained Mag-MSMs were modified with polyethyleneimine (PEI), phytic acid (PA) and Ti4+ (denoted as Mag-MSMs@PEI-PA-Ti4+ ) via layer by layer (LbL) assembly. Due to the excellent hydrophilicity of PEI and PA and the large amount of Ti4+ , the Mag-MSMs@PEI-PA-Ti4+ possessed combined properties of hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography (HILIC)- and immobilized metal ion affinity chromatography (IMAC)-based materials, which could be used as a dual-purpose material for N-glycopeptides or phosphopeptides enrichment...

A magnetite@graphene oxide nanocomposite was first coated with polyethylenimine and then modified with phytic acid and titanium(IV) ions. The high loading with Ti(IV) and the good hydrophilicity of PEI and PA result in a material that can be applied to the efficient extraction of highly polar nucleobases, nucleosides and nucleotides. The physicochemical properties of the composite were investigated by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, water contact angle measurements, thermogravimetric analysis, and vibrating sample magnetometry...

A highly sensitive new method is described for performing dispersive microextractions. It is making use of a magnetic carbon nanocomposite and two miscible organic solvents. The method was applied to simultaneous extraction of 32 polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) prior to their quantitation by gas chromatography with electron capture detection. The effects of pH value of sample for both micro solid phase extraction and dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction, of the amount of sorbent, extraction time, type and volume of the miscible organic solvents and of salt addition were optimized...

Collagen hydrolysates are dietary supplements used for nutritional and medical purposes. They are complex mixtures of low-molecular-weight peptides obtained from the enzymatic hydrolysis of collagen, which provide intrinsic batch-to-batch heterogeneity. In consequence, the quality of these products, which is related to the reproducibility of their mass distribution pattern, should be addressed. Here, we propose an analytical approach to determine the peptide pattern as a quality attribute of Colagenart®, a product containing collagen hydrolysate...

This work investigates the preparation of a magnetically recoverable photocatalytic nanocomposite of maghemite nanoparticles coated with silica and carbon doped titanium dioxide. The novel nanocomposite boasts the advantages of efficient photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants in water and ease of recovery of the fine particles after water treatment. The photocatalytic nanocomposite was successfully synthesized through a stepwise approach via co-precipitation and sol-gel methods. Characterisation by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) substantiated the existence of the intended structure of the nanocomposite and the particles were found to be in the size range of 15-22 nm with a quasi-spherical shape...

The effect of small quantities of magnetic polymer nanocomposite (formed by surfactant Pluronic F127 @ Fe3O4 nanoparticles of 10 nm and 30 nm diameters) on the crystallization behavior of Pluronic F127 micelles solvated by 20 % in water was investigated in the vicinity of hydrophilic and hydrophobic interfaces. Introducing magnetic nanoparticle at core imparts magnetic properties to the polymeric micelle and increases its hydrodynamic diameter. These magnetic polymer nanocomposites act as defects in the Pluronic crystal and hinder crystallization in comparison to pure Pluronic F127 micelles behavior...

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is one of the most important clinic diagnostic tool used to obtain high-quality body images. The administration of low-molecular-weight Gd complex-based MRI contrast agents (CAs) permits to increase the 1 H relaxation rate of nearby water molecules, thus modulating signal intensity and contrast enhancement. Even if highly accurate, MRI modality suffers from its low sensitivity. Moreover, low-molecular-weight CAs rapidly equilibrate between the intravascular and extravascular spaces after their administration...

SY0916 has been proven to be a potent treatment agent against rheumatoid arthritis in preclinical studies and has been shown to be safe in phase I clinical trials. However, SY0916 is unstable in water, which is frequently used in pharmaceutical development processes. The degradation behaviour and stability of SY0916 in aqueous solutions were investigated at different pH levels, periods of time, and temperatures. Two degradation products (DPs) were successfully separated and characterized by liquid chromatography coupled to high-resolution tandem mass spectrometry (LC-HRMS/MS), liquid chromatography coupled to nuclear magnetic resonance with solid phase extraction (LC-SPE-NMR), and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR)...
