To enhance the hydrogen oxidation reaction (HOR) activity of Pt/C under alkaline conditions, the catalyst's surface was modified with fifteen metals. The surface modification enhanced the activity of Pt/C for the HOR beyond a change in hydrogen binding energy (HBE), and this can be attributed to a change in the reactivity of surface oxygen species to adsorbed hydrogen species.

In this article, we demonstrate that a convolutional neural network (CNN) can be effectively used to determine the presence of twins in the atomic resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) images of catalytic Au nanoparticles. In particular, the CNN screening of Hough transformed images resulted in significantly higher accuracy rates as compared to those obtained by applying this technique to the raw STEM images. The proposed method can be utilized for evaluating the statistical twining fraction of Au nanoparticles that strongly affects their catalytic activity...

In the breeding of citrus (Citrus spp.), suitable fruit quality is essential for consumer acceptance of new cultivars. To identify parental combinations producing F1 progeny with fruit-quality traits exceeding certain selection criteria, we developed a simple and practical method for predicting multiple-trait segregation in an F1 progeny population. This method uses breeding values of parental genotypes and an additive genetic (co)variance matrix calculated by the best linear unbiased prediction method to construct a model for trait segregation in F1 progeny...

BACKGROUND: Somatic embryogenesis in nucellar tissues is widely recognized to induce polyembryony in major citrus varieties such as sweet oranges, satsuma mandarins and lemons. This capability for apomixis is attractive in agricultural production systems using hybrid seeds, and many studies have been performed to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of various types of apomixis. To identify the gene responsible for somatic embryogenesis in citrus, a custom oligo-DNA microarray including predicted genes in the citrus polyembryonic locus was used to compare the expression profiles in reproductive tissues between monoembryonic and polyembryonic varieties...

Seedlessness is one of the important traits in citrus breeding. Male sterility derived from Satsuma mandarin (Citrus unshiu) has been used in Japanese citrus breeding programs to obtain seedless cultivars. The efficiency of seedless cultivar breeding would be improved by developing a selection marker linked to seedlessness. In this study, we performed QTL mapping in 'Okitsu No. 46' × 'Okitsu No. 56' (O46-O56) crosses for the number of pollen grains per anther (NPG) and apparent pollen fertility (APF), two traits used as an index of male sterility, and detected a candidate QTL for NPG (MS-P1) on linkage group 8 with a significant LOD score (7...

In this paper, we investigate the coupled Sasa-Satsuma equations, which describe the simultaneous propagation of two ultrashort pulses in the birefringent or two-mode fiber with the third-order dispersion, self-steepening, and stimulated Raman scattering effects. Darboux-dressing transformation is applied to obtain the dark-bright soliton and semirational rogue-wave solutions. Dark-bright one solitons with the single-hump, double-hump, and even breather-like structures are presented. Interactions between the double-peak breather and different kinds of dark-bright solitons are studied...

We present the infinite hierarchy of Sasa-Satsuma evolution equations. The corresponding Lax pairs are given, thus proving its integrability. The lowest order member of this hierarchy is the nonlinear Schrödinger equation, while the next one is the Sasa-Satsuma equation that includes third-order terms. Up to sixth-order terms of the hierarchy are given in explicit form, while the provided recurrence relation allows one to explicitly write all higher-order terms. The whole hierarchy can be combined into a single general equation...

Osimertinib is a standard second-line therapy for patients who develop EGFR Thr790Met resistance mutation after treatment with first-line epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitors. Although no other effective targeted treatment option exists for these patients, osimertinib might be permanently discontinued owing to the onset of severe drug-induced toxicities like hepatotoxicity. Herein, we report a case of successful oral desensitization with osimertinib after the patient developed osimertinib-induced fever and hepatotoxicity...

Supported bimetallic catalysts have been studied because of their enhanced catalytic properties due to metal-metal interactions compared with monometallic catalysts. We focused on galvanic deposition (GD) as a bimetallization method, which achieves well-defined metal-metal interfaces by exchanging heterogeneous metals with different ionisation tendencies. We have developed Ni@Ag/SiO2 catalysts for CO oxidation, Co@Ru/Al2 O3 catalysts for automotive three-way reactions and Pd-Co/Al2 O3 catalysts for methane combustion by using the GD method...

The inherent allergens of citrus fruits, such as Cit s 1, Cit s 2, Cit s 3 can cause allergic reactions. A better understanding of the genetic factors (cultivar to cultivar) affecting the allergenic potential of citrus fruits would be beneficial for further identification of hypoallergenic genotypes. In the present study, an immunoblotting quantification approach was adopted to assess the potential allergenicity of 21 citrus cultivars, including nine subgroups (tangerine, satsuma, orange, pummelo, grapefruit, lemon, kumquat, tangor, and tangelo)...

Aphis spiraecola Patch, Aphis gossypii Glover, and Toxoptera aurantii Boyer de Fonscolombe are three important aphid pests of citrus orchards. In this study, spatial distributions of the aphids on two orange species, Satsuma mandarin and Thomson navel, were evaluated using Taylor's power law and Iwao's patchiness. In addition, a fixed-precision sequential sampling plant was developed for each species on the host plant by Green's model at precision levels of 0.25 and 0.1. The results revealed that spatial distribution parameters and therefore the sampling plan were significantly different according to aphid and host plant species...
