Due to the ubiquitous and inexhaustible solar source, photothermal materials have gained considerable attention for their potential in heating and de-icing. Nevertheless, traditional photothermal materials, exemplified by graphene, frequently encounter challenges emanating from their elevated reflectance. Inspired by ocular structures, this study uses the Fresnel equation to enhance the photo-thermal conversion efficiency of graphene by introducing a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS)/silicon dioxide (SiO2 ) coating, which reduces the light reflectance (≈20%) through destructive interference...

HYPOTHESIS: Graphene quantum dots (GQDs) with various functional groups are hypothesized to inhibit the α-synuclein (αS) dimerization, a crucial step in Parkinson's disease pathogenesis. The potential of differently functionalized GQDs is systematically explored. EXPERIMENTS: All-atom replica-exchange molecular dynamics simulations (accumulating to 75.6 μs) in explicit water were performed to study the dimerization of the αS non-amyloid component region and the influence of GQDs modified with various functional groups...

Tumor-marker immunosensors for rapid on-site detection have not yet been developed because of immunoreaction bottlenecks, such as shortening the reaction time and facilitating incubation. In this study, a gold-boron-nitrogen-codoped graphene (Au-BNG)-based immunosensor antenna was constructed for the rapid detection of neuron-specific enolase (NSE). A Au-BNG radiation electrode with dual functions of antibody protein fixation and signal transmission was developed for the first time. A radiation sample cell was constructed by embedding a radiation electrode into the groove of a poly(dimethylsiloxane) dielectric substrate...

CONTEXT: To unravel the effects of the C vacancy, doping N type and number, the adsorption of HCHO and O2 was investigated on the graphene (Gr)-based supported Pt single atom by density functional theory calculations. The electronegativity of the vacancy and N-doped Gr was a crucial factor both for the anchoring for a Pt and the further adsorption of HCHO and O2 on the supported Pt. The electronegativity can be tuned by the C vacancy number (1V and 2V), the doping N type (graphitic-N, pyridinic-N and pyrrolic-N) and the doping pyridinic-N number (1N ~ 4N)...

The construction of an antibacterial biological coating on titanium surface plays an important role in the long-term stability of oral implant restoration. Graphene oxide (GO) has been widely studied because of its excellent antibacterial properties and osteogenic activity. However, striking a balance between its biological toxicity and antibacterial properties remains a significant challenge with GO. ε-poly-L-lysine (PLL) has broad-spectrum antibacterial activity and ultra-high safety performance. Using Layer-by-layer self-assembly technology (LBL), different layers of PLL/GO coatings and GO self-assembly coatings were assembled on the surface of titanium sheet...

3D composite electrodes have shown extraordinary promise as high mass loading electrode materials for sodium ion batteries (SIBs). However, they usually show poor rate performance due to the sluggish Na+ kinetics at the heterointerfaces of the composites. Here, a 3D MXene-reduced holey graphene oxide (MXene-RHGO) composite electrode with Ti─O─C bonding at 2D heterointerfaces of MXene and RHGO is developed. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal the built-in electric fields (BIEFs) are enhanced by the formation of bridged interfacial Ti─O─C bonding, that lead to not only faster diffusion of Na+ at the heterointerfaces but also faster adsorption and migration of Na+ on the MXene surfaces...
