PURPOSE: To evaluate the volumetric changes of two recently introduced paediatric rotary file systems in comparison with conventional hand file systems in primary maxillary canines using an ultra-high-resolution nano-computed tomography. METHODS: This in vitro study was performed in extracted primary maxillary canines based on certain inclusion and exclusion criteria. Samples were prepared, and working length was determined after the pre-operative scan using a high-resolution nano-CT device (SkyScan 2214, Bruker, Kontich, Belgium)...

Epidermoid cysts are infrequent, benign, slow-growing, space-occupying lesions that account for 0.5-1.8% of primary intracranial tumors. We report the case of a 17-month-old child who presented in 2015 for one episode of pallor associated with hypotonia. Epilepsy was excluded and MRI was recommended. The MRI was performed and there were no focal parenchymal lesions, but it showed an extra-axial ovoid lesion with imaging characteristics consistent with epidermoid cyst. Follow-up MRI at one year was performed and it showed minimal increased in dimensions of the cyst, without changes into the signal of the lesion...

The aim of minimal intervention dentistry (MID) is to maximize the preservation of dental tissues through the use of modern and effective techniques and procedures. The central objective of MID is to increase the functional life of dental elements and, consequently, the quality of life of the population. The present study aimed to analyze and map the diffusion and clinical application of MID in different continents around the world. To perform this scoping review, the PRISMA checklist was used, adopting the following: population - dentists; concept - effectiveness of MID; and context - continents...

INTRODUCTION: Promoting physical wellness for preschool-aged children with developmental disorders (DD) is a known challenge. Interventions are more likely to succeed when physical activity opportunities are available to children within the context of their typical environments. We evaluated the feasibility and preliminary effect of 1 potential solution: structured creative dance classes delivered within a preschool environment. METHODS: Using a non-randomized feasibility study design, we offered physical activity in the form of creative dance classes for children with and without DD within an inclusive preschool...

Heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB) is often the presenting symptom for females with inherited bleeding disorders (IBD). Multidisciplinary clinics leverage the expertise of hematologists and women's health specialists. This study characterizes the complexity of HMB management for adolescents with IBDs from a large multidisciplinary clinic. Adolescents often required multiple different menstrual suppression treatments, with only about 20% achieving acceptable suppression with their first treatment. Adolescents switched therapy most often for uncontrolled bleeding, followed by adverse effects, and patient preference...

BACKGROUND: Disruptions in gene expression associated with the glomerular basement membrane (GBM) could precipitate glomerular dysfunction. Nevertheless, a comprehensive understanding of the characterization of GBM components within pediatric glomerular diseases and their potential association with glomerular function necessitates further systematic investigation. METHODS: We conducted a systematic analysis focusing on the pathological transformations and molecular attributes of key constituents within the GBM, specifically Collagen IV α3α4α5, Laminin α5β2γ1, and Integrin α3β1, across prevalent pediatric glomerular diseases...

BACKGROUND: Multiphase contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT) is a commonly used modality in pediatric computed tomography (CT) scans. However, the purposes and focus of each phase, such as CT angiography (CTA), and parenchymal phase, are different. In routine practice, the same scanning parameters are used for all phases, resulting in unnecessary radiation exposure for children. Accurately and rapidly adjusting the scanning parameters for each phase of CECT is challenging in clinical settings...

The drug-food interaction has a great interest in nutrition research to minimize unfavorable reactions to nutritional treatment. Failure to supply appropriate nutrition to the child can harm both body development and growth. This review aimed to examine available data on the impact of diet on medication absorption in pediatric populations. Mechanisms underlying food-drug interactions were investigated to explore possible distinctions between adult and pediatric populations and to gain insight into how this may impact the pharmacokinetic profile in a child...

INTRODUCTION: Intra-detrusor botulinum toxin (Botox) injection is a minimally invasive alternative to augmentation cystoplasty in patients with refractory neurogenic bladder. Botox was first used for neurogenic bladder children two decades ago. However, there are no existing guidelines on indications or use among patients with spina bifida. Furthermore, there are little data regarding its use relative to bladder augmentation and patient volume on a national scale. OBJECTIVE: We sought to investigate the contemporary trends of intra-detrusor Botox injection and augment cystoplasty in free-standing children's hospitals...

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infections exert a substantial impact on the practice of pediatric infectious diseases. Although most infections in children are minimally symptomatic, several populations are at risk for CMV-associated disease, including immunosuppressed children, children with HIV infection, and, most significantly, children with congenital CMV (cCMV) infection. In spite of the ubiquitous nature of CMV infection, few studies have quantified the impact of CMV-associated care in a pediatric outpatient clinic setting...

Existing exoskeletons for pediatric gait assistance have limitations in anthropometric design, structure weight, cost, user safety features, and adaptability to diverse users. Additionally, creating precise models for pediatric rehabilitation is difficult because the rapid anthropometric changes in children result in unknown model parameters. Furthermore, external disruptions, like unpredictable movements and involuntary muscle contractions, add complexity to the control schemes that need to be managed. To overcome these limitations, this study aims to develop an affordable stand-aided lower-limb exoskeleton specifically for pediatric subjects (8-12 years, 25-40 kg, 128-132 cm) in passive-assist mode...

INTRODUCTION: The Greenlandic population has one of the world's highest prevalence of otitis media (OM). Approximately 9-14% of all children suffer from OM during childhood. Due to the climate, lack of infrastructure, and minimal access to specialist services, the Greenlandic healthcare system operates under significant challenges. To support treatment implementation, we explored parental experiences of having a child with recurrent acute otitis media (rAOM) and chronic suppurative otitis media in Greenland (CSOM)...
