Blood vessel segmentation is a crucial stage in extracting morphological characteristics of vessels for the clinical diagnosis of fundus and coronary artery disease. However, traditional convolutional neural networks (CNNs) are confined to learning local vessel features, making it challenging to capture the graph structural information and fail to perceive the global context of vessels. Therefore, we propose a novel graph neural network-guided vision transformer enhanced network (G2ViT) for vessel segmentation...

The early unfractionated heparin (UFH) treatment in patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) is a single-center, open-label, randomized controlled trial. The study population are patients with STEMI that undergo primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI). The trial was designed to investigate whether early administration of unfractionated heparin immediately after diagnosis of STEMI is beneficial in terms of patency of infarct-related coronary artery (IRA) when compared to established UFH administration at the time of coronary intervention...

A male patient presented with cardiac arrest attributed to anterior ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction from type 1 spontaneous coronary artery dissection. Subsequent imaging confirmed fibromuscular dysplasia in noncoronary arterial segments. The patient was started on guideline-directed medical therapy and referred to cardiac rehabilitation, showing substantial improvements in clinical status. With greater awareness and advancements in imaging, spontaneous coronary artery dissection has been more frequently recognized, and although as many as 81% to 92% of all cases occur in female patients, it can be seen among men, as well...

Aneurysmal dilation of coronary arteries is a rare condition detected during coronary angiography. Due to their poorly elucidated underlying mechanisms, their variable presentations, and the lack of large-scale outcome data on their various treatment modalities, coronary artery aneurysms, and coronary ectasia pose a challenge to the managing clinician. This case presentation provides insight into the challenges regarding the management of the coronary artery aneurysm during the perioperative period.

INTRODUCTION: Currently, epicardial coronary angiography is still the only diagnostic tool for Coronary Slow Flow Phenomenon (CSFP). This study aimed to systematically review studies that compared Electrocardiogram (ECG) findings between patients with and without CSFP. METHODS: Using relevant key terms, we systematically searched MEDLINE, Scopus, Embase, and Web of Science to find relevant studies up to February 5th , 2023. Effect sizes in each study were calculated as mean differences and crude odds ratio; then, random-effect models using inverse variance and Mantel-Haenszel methods were used to pool standardized mean differences (SMD) and crude odds ratios, respectively...

Coronary artery anomalies (CAAs) are rare, but they can cause serious consequences, complicate the diagnosis of coronary artery disease (CAD), and hamper the ability of the physician to perform the correct intervention for patients with CAD. The widespread use of coronary computed tomography and angiography has shown that the incidence is higher than previously thought. CAAs can occur with various anatomical features. We present three rare examples. The first example involves a circumflex artery (CX) that originates from a different ostium on the right side, despite the presence of left arteries in normal anatomical structures...

Acute coronary occlusion just after transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) is a rare but fatal complication, with an incidence of less than 1% but a 30-day mortality rate of up to 50%. The most likely mechanism of acute coronary occlusion following TAVI is the obstruction by the native aortic valve leaflet. However, acute coronary occlusion due to embolus has been rarely reported, and we herein report the case. An 80-year-old woman with severe aortic stenosis and chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) underwent transfemoral TAVI with a 23-mm balloon-expandable valve...

UNLABELLED: An acute ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) followed by reinfarction within a short period of time is typically due to stent thrombosis. However, a STEMI caused by occlusion of one vessel followed by a repeat infarction due to occlusion of a different vessel which was seemingly innocent a few hours earlier is extremely rare. We present the case of a 61-year-old male with a past medical history of prediabetes, hyperlipidemia, tobacco use, and gastroesophageal reflux disease who presented to the emergency department with complaints of chest pain...

Brain dysfunction resulting from damage to the heart-brain link leads to a decline in cognitive function. This, in turn, gives rise to the clinical symptom of perioperative delirium in patients undergoing coronary artery revascularization. Those affected are provided symptomatic treatment, but many do not recover fully. Thus, medium- and long-term mortality and adverse event rates remain relatively high in patients with perioperative delirium. Despite the relatively high incidence of perioperative delirium in patients undergoing coronary artery revascularization, it has not been systematically investigated...

BACKGROUND: Nail-Patella syndrome (NPS) is an autosomal-dominant pleiotropic condition characterized by pelvic and skeletal abnormalities and most commonly affecting a tetrad of nails, knees, elbows, and iliac horns, the iliac horns being pathognomonic for the condition. The most well-documented extra-skeletal manifestation is renal involvement with alteration in Type III collagen. No documented cases of NPS with anomalous coronary arteries or aneurysms, acute coronary occlusion, or successfully coronary interventions exist in the medical literature...

PURPOSE: Numerical models that simulate the behaviors of the coronary arteries have been greatly improved by the addition of fluid-structure interaction (FSI) methods. Although computationally demanding, FSI models account for the movement of the arterial wall and more adequately describe the biomechanical conditions at and within the arterial wall. This offers greater physiological relevance over Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) models, which assume the walls do not move or deform...
