Their contributions, however, are often underrepresented in scientific literature. This study aimed to explore the experiences of pharmacists who provided pharmacy services to meet the pharmaceutical needs of the survivors after 2 major earthquakes in Türkiye in 2023. BACKGROUND: A capstone course often serves as the final checkpoint of student readiness before the commencement of experiential training. The purpose of this study was to determine if the assessment components from the capstone course can serve as predictors of student performance during their Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPEs). METHODS: Student data was analyzed to observe the correlation between performance in the Pharmacy Curriculum Outcomes Assessment (PCOA), student performance in the capstone course, and the overall grade point average (GPA) earned during APPEs...

BACKGROUND: Medical simulation is an effective educational tool used to increase confidence, improve knowledge, and refine skills when responding to high acuity situations. Despite established roles of the pharmacist on the hospital code team, most institutions lack formalized pharmacist training for code team responses. OBJECTIVE: This pre-post analysis aimed to evaluate the impact of a didactic and simulation-based code response training for pharmacists on self-perceived improvement and preparedness when responding to in-hospital medical emergencies...

INTRODUCTION: The lack of human resources for disease prevention and control is evident in times of health crisis, such as the COVID-19 pandemic. In public health emergencies, the capacity for adequate assistance and guaranteed access to pharmacological treatment are fundamental and contribute to impact reduction. We aimed to analyze the profile, performance, and characteristics related to the self-perception of preparedness among pharmacists who responded to the COVID-19 pandemic in Brazil...

The global COVID-19 pandemic impacted pharmacy education and changed the pharmacists' scope of practice at the federal and state levels. Based on the Amended Public Readiness and Emergency Preparedness Act, pharmacists were authorized to provide essential services, including testing, treatments, and immunizations at various practice settings. Specifically, the United States Food and Drug Administration issued emergency use authorization for several medications, vaccines, and medical devices. The pandemic also affected the regulatory landscape for pharmacists, pharmacy education, access to care, and delivery of pharmacy services in-person and through telehealth...

BACKGROUND: Pharmacy-based immunization services have expanded since the mid-1990s but still face multiple challenges. Amendments to the Public Readiness and Emergency Preparedness (PREP) Act broadened patient-care scope and the pool of eligible pharmacy personnel that could administer vaccinations. The expiration of these amendments in 2024 may threaten recent gains in vaccine and other healthcare access newly available through pharmacies. OBJECTIVES: To elicit chain community pharmacists' perspectives on immunization time demands, corporate guidance, data flow and information technology, workflow and workforce issues, as well as other newly provided services...

BACKGROUND: Readily accessible to the public, community pharmacies (CPs) were placed under increased pressure during the COVID-19 pandemic. In England, dispensing volume increased by 25% between February and March 2020. This followed a decade of stagnant government funding, which has been attributed to CP closures. If another pandemic emerged, the reduced number of CPs may face increased pressures. This study sought to describe the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on community pharmacy practice and its workforce. Interviews were conducted with 18 key informants from pharmacy associations and community pharmacists representing chain and independent pharmacy organizations across the United States from January to May 2022. Interview notes were analyzed using a rapid content analysis approach. Four themes resulted: (a) patient care at community pharmacies focused on fulfilling COVID-19 response needs; (b) pharmacists' history as immunizers and scope of practice expansions facilitated COVID-19 response efforts; (c) workforce supply shortages impeded COVID-19 response efforts and contributed to burnout; and (d) maintaining community pharmacy workforce's readiness will be critical to future emergency preparedness and response efforts...

BACKGROUND: The effects of climate change are seen with a rise of extreme weather and climate events (EWCEs) which lead to the closures of many healthcare facilities, such as community pharmacies.
