Determination of hepatotoxic drugs is critical for both clinical diagnosis and quantity control of their pharmaceutical formulations. In this work, a facile and sensitive sensor based on MXene modified screen-printed electrode (MXene/SPE) has been developed for detection of acetaminophen (ACOP) and isoniazid (INZ), which are two commonly used drugs but might induce liver damage in certain circumstances. MXene showed excellent electrocatalytic activity toward the oxidation of ACOP and INZ compared with bare SPE in 0...

Detection of amino acids (AAs) in blood is helpful to diagnose some diseases. In this work, a method is developed for determination of trace amounts of AAs in bovine blood by combining solid phase extraction (SPE) and capillary electrophoresis (CE). Zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) nanoparticles are prepared and used as adsorbents to simultaneously extract three AAs (tryptophan, tyrosine, phenylalanine). Under the optimum extraction conditions, the extraction efficiencies of ZIF-8 for AAs are 95.1% (tryptophan), 91...

BACKGROUND: A novel method, termed loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP), was developed by Notomi et al. (2000). Individually published results have been reported that this technology has been successfully applied to the detection of a variety of pathogens. However, the overall diagnostic accuracy of LAMP for Mycoplasma pneumoniae (MP) remains unclear. A meta-analysis was therefore performed to review the accuracy of LAMP for Mycoplasma pneumoniae. METHODS: Cochrane Library and PubMed were systematically searched and checked for studies using LAMP for detecting mycoplasma pneumoniae...

Emerging fusariotoxins, mainly enniatins (ENNs) and beauvericin (BEA), are secondary toxic metabolites produced by Fusarium spp. and are widely distributed contaminants of cereals and by-products. Mycotoxin contamination in these products supposes an important risk to feed supply security in the feed industry due to the common use of cereals in feed formulations. Hence, continuous monitoring of both raw materials and feed mixtures is highly recommended as stated by sanitary authorities. Therefore, an analytical procedure based on liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry and an acetonitrile-based extraction followed by a d-SPE (QuEChERS) step for the simultaneous determination of emerging Fusarium mycotoxins was in-house validated and successfully applied to raw materials ( n = 39 ) and feed manufactured with them ( n = 48 )...

The UV filter 2‑ethylhexyl salicylate (EHS) is widely used in sunscreens and other personal care products (PCP). EHS has been detected in a variety of environmental matrices. However, data on the internal EHS exposure in humans is not available, due to the lack of exposure biomarkers and analytical methods for their determination. Here, we report a method for the determination of three oxidative EHS metabolites in human urine: 2‑ethyl‑5‑hydroxyhexyl 2‑hydroxybenzoate (5OH-EHS), 2‑ethyl‑5‑oxohexyl 2‑hydroxybenzoate (5oxo-EHS), and 5‑(((2‑hydroxybenzoyl)oxy)methyl)heptanoic acid (5cx-EPS)...

In this study, a simple solid-phase extraction (SPE) technique was developed to extract organophosphonic acids as degradation products of nerve agents from aqueous samples for identification by instrumental analyses such as FT-IR, TOF-SIMs and GC-MS. To selectively extract the organophosphonic acids, we synthesized an anion exchange polymer film on a gold plate using surface-initiated controlled radical polymerization with 2-[(methacryloyloxy)ethyl]trimethylammonium chloride. Extraction of the organophosphonic acids onto the plates was successfully confirmed by polarized angle fourier transformation-infra red (FT-IR) spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry analyses...

A device was designed integrating solid phase extraction (SPE) and in situ optical detection techniques. A chip assembled in the device to carry out SPE was enclosed in a fully reflective aluminum box to avoid loss of radiation flux in the optical measurement. The spectrum was measured on the SPE material directly after SPE. The device offers simple analytical operation without any elution step comparing with the traditional analytical methods with complicated procedures. The device and the developed analytical technique was used for the determination of rhodamine B and benzo[a]pyrene with UV-visible diffuse reflectance and solid phase fluorescence spectroscopies, respectively...

A highly sensitive new method is described for performing dispersive microextractions. It is making use of a magnetic carbon nanocomposite and two miscible organic solvents. The method was applied to simultaneous extraction of 32 polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) prior to their quantitation by gas chromatography with electron capture detection. The effects of pH value of sample for both micro solid phase extraction and dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction, of the amount of sorbent, extraction time, type and volume of the miscible organic solvents and of salt addition were optimized...

SY0916 has been proven to be a potent treatment agent against rheumatoid arthritis in preclinical studies and has been shown to be safe in phase I clinical trials. However, SY0916 is unstable in water, which is frequently used in pharmaceutical development processes. The degradation behaviour and stability of SY0916 in aqueous solutions were investigated at different pH levels, periods of time, and temperatures. Two degradation products (DPs) were successfully separated and characterized by liquid chromatography coupled to high-resolution tandem mass spectrometry (LC-HRMS/MS), liquid chromatography coupled to nuclear magnetic resonance with solid phase extraction (LC-SPE-NMR), and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR)...

Triclosan (TCS) is a topical antiseptic widely used in different cosmetic products. It is also a common additive in many antimicrobial household consumables. Over a certain concentration, it becomes risky for human and environmental health. This work describes the development of an electrochemical sensor based on molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP), assembled on screen-printed gold electrode (Au-SPE), dedicated to the TCS detection in environmental water sources. To achieve this goal, an acrylamide/bisacrylamide solution was polymerized after linking TCS with the carboxylic polyvinyl chloride (PVC-COOH) layer onto the Au-SPE...

Antibiotics have drawn much attention as their wide usage in humans and animals may result in microbial resistance, which is a huge threat to humans' health. Studies on the occurrence and removals of antibiotics in wastewater treatment plants have been widely performed, but very few covered their main acetylated metabolites. This study developed an effective analytical method for the trace determination of four sulfonamides and three acetylated metabolites in municipal wastewaters, which was validated by linearity (R2  > 0...

Three mononuclear non-heme iron dependent enzymes, L-Ile 4-hydroxylase, L-Leu 5-hydroxylase and polyoxin dihydroxylase, are reported to catalyze the hydroxylation of L-isoleucine, L-leucine and L-α-amino-δ-carbamoylhydroxyvaleric acid (ACV). In this study we showed that these enzymes can accommodate various leucine isomers and catalyze regiospecific hydroxylation. Based on these results, as a proof-of-concept, we demonstrated that the outcome of the reaction can be redirected by installation of an assisting group within the substrate...

We report a new material of a composite silica monolith nested in sponge (SiMNS) and demonstrate an application in the trace analysis of environmental contaminants in water. SiMNS is prepared through sponge absorption of a hydrolyzed mixture of siloxanes and in situ gel formation within the pores. Images obtained using scanning electron microscopy show that the silica and sponge skeletons are mutually nested in SiMNS. This nested composite structure of SiMNS enhances the mechanical flexibility of the material, allowing for reproducible production of desirable sizes and shapes for solid phase extraction (SPE) cartridges without the need to use frits...

This paper describes a stoichiometric approach to synthesis molecularly imprinted polymers specific for auramine O. Using the stoichiometric interaction in molecular imprinting no excess of binding sites is necessary and binding sites are only located inside the imprinted cavities. The free base of template was obtained to facilitate the interaction with the monomers. Itaconic acid was selected as functional monomer and stoichiometric ratio of the interaction with the free base was investigated. The molecularly imprinted polymers preparation conditions such as cross-linker, molar ratio, porogen were optimized to be divinylbenzene, 1:2:20 and chloroform/N,N-dimethylformamide, respectively...
