The aim of our study was to establish the influence of β2AR agonists and antagonists on Th1/Th2 subpopulation balance in intact and activated CD4+ T lymphocyte. Jurkat leukemic T cell line was used as a model for studying T cell activation conditions under the influence of β2AR ligands. As follows from the results of our studies, after the influence of β2AR agonist isoproterenol on intact Jurkat cells expression of IL-2 was not changed in comparison to control level. Under the PHA-stimulation level of IL-2 production in Jurkat cells increased significantly; isoproterenol caused decrease level of IL-2 expression in the PHA-stimulated Jurkat cells...

The most frequent symptoms among the manifestations of cow milk protein allergy (CMPA) are gastrointestinal. CMPA pathogenesis involves immunological mechanisms with participation of immunocompetent cells and production of immunoglobulin E (IgE). Nevertheless, recent studies have been focused on the description of other forms of CMPA, not-mediated by IgE reactions, mostly involving the T lymphocite immune system. Thus, in this field it is important to note how different kind of cells are involved in the immunopathogenesis of CMPA, such as antigen-specific T cells, T regulatory cells, cytokines secreted by the different T lymphocite subsets, B lymphocytes, antingen-presenting cells, mast cells, that together orchestrate the complex mechanism leading to the phenotipic expression of CMPA...

Cell division is closely related to telomerase activity (hTERT mRNA). Lower expression of lymphocitic hTERT mRNA may easily cause cell aging, which is not beneficial to maintaining a durable lymphocyte division. To date, there is no study to investigate IFNα therapy on hTERT mRNA expression in PBMCs of patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB). We quantitatively detected hTERT mRNA from study subjects and made each hTERT mRNA normalized (NhTERT mRNA). Mean NhTERT mRNA level was lower in either CHB group, but it significantly increased in IFNα-treated group compared with CHB control group, and a longer duration of IFNα therapy could increase the level...

BACKGROUND/AIM: Thyroid carcinoma is rare malignant tumors. They are typically presented with slow progression and clinical course. Lymphocytic infiltration, including fagocytosis of neoplastic cells by macrophage plays an important role in preventing development of distant metastases. This paper sets the following objectives: Establish whether presence or absence of Hashimoto thyroiditis in differentiated thyroid carcinoma (DTC) is a favourable prognostic factor. METHODS: The group under examination here are all newly diagnosed patients with differentiated thyroid carcinoma surgically treated at the Surgery Clinic in Podgorica from 2003...

Primary female genital tract non Hodgkin's lymphoma is a rare presentation for a common disease in the childhood, and its classification as primary extranodal lymphoma is still controversial. There are a few cases reported as a primary precursor B-cell lymphoblastic lymphoma of the female genital tract, but there is not any case reported as primary precursor T-cell lymphoblastic lymphoma of the ovary in childhood. Herein we describe a 16 years old young woman with bilateral ovarian tumors, paraaortic lymphoadenophaty and disseminate disease to the female genital tract including extension of the tumor to neighboring organs like the omentum and the appendix...

INTRODUCTION: The "Diffuse Infiltrative Lymphocytosis Syndrome" [DILS] is a seldom complication and even very particular case of HIV-1 infection, characterized by a merely syndrome and a systemic symptomatology superimposable to the figure met during the Gougerot-Sjögren Syndrome. GSS is nevertheless underlied by a lymphocyte infiltrate composed mainly of TCD8+ lymphocytes, while in the Gougerot-Sjögren syndrome (GSS), the lymphocyte infiltrate is essentially composed of TCD4+ lymphocytes...

Chromosome analyses were performed on bone marrow of 177 pediatric patients with Acute Lymphocitic Leukemia at the "Hospital Nacional de Nifios". The standard cytogenetic techniques now belongs to the panel of mandatory analyses performed at diagnosis of our acute leukemia patients and represent a major advantage to be effective and independent prognostic factors, essential for therapeutic choices. Cytogenetic results were achieved in 83% of the bone marrow samples: normal karyotypes represented 29% and abnormal karyotypes 71% with the follow distribution: t(9;22) 3%; t(l;19) 5%; t(4;11) 3%, Hyperdiploidy 39%; other chromosomal abnormalities 21%...

We evaluated the changes in the progression to death and AIDS and in the mean level of CD4 lymphocytes by calendar period in HIV-positive individuals before and after the introduction of HAART. Through data collected in a prospective cohort study (Italian Seroconversion Study) of 1899 HIV-infected persons with well estimated date of seroconversion, considered as time-zero of analysis, we calculated Kaplan-Meier curves and Cox models, allowing for staggered entries, to estimate the cumulative probability of survival and hazard-ratios (HR) for death and for AIDS by calendar period (1980-1996: pre-HAART era, 1997-1998: first HAART era, and 1999-2001: second HAART era), age at seroconversion, gender, and exposure category...

Previous data obtained from experiments either in space or in clinostats have shown that: a) human T lymphocytes activation is strongly inhibited; b) the distribution of protein kinase C (PKC) in human leukocytes is altered; c) expression of IL-2 and IL-2-R-alpha is altered. In this study we focus our attention on different isoforms of PKC to determine whether microgravity directly affects the activity and subcellular distribution of PKC. This work was carried out with Con A and anti-CD 28 activated human T cells in simulated microgravity conditions in the Random Positioning Machine (RPM)...

Intravascular lymphomatosis is an uncommon lymphoproliferative disorder characterised by intravascular distribution of neoplastic lymphoid cells (B- or T-lymphocites), what leads to occlusion of small vessels and causes signs and symptoms of disorder. Its initial predilection sites are the brain or the skin, and hematopoetic organs are usually spared. The signs and symptoms of the disorder are attributed to vascular occlusion. Clinical course is fatal, besides therapy. In our case disorder has started with partial epileptic seizures with secundar generalisation, and after that with motor aphasia, right hemiparesis, urinary incontinence and cognitive changes...

The photopheresis (ECP) is a therapeutic approach based on the biological effect of psoralen and ultraviolet light A on mononuclear cells collected by apheresis, and reinfused into the patient. In 1988, the treatment was the first FDA-approved selective immunotherapy for any type of cancer. Convincing data taken from over 160 centers in Europe and the U.S.A. over the past few years have documented that ECP is associated with a very low side-effect profile. Evidence shows that this therapy prolongs the mean survival, and also induces 50-75% response rates in patients with advanced cutaneous T-cell lymphoma...

Chronic Atrophic Gastritis of high incidence in Helicobacter pylori infection has not been pathogenically explained yet. Helicobacter Pylori Chronic Active Superficial Gastritis has not been related to Chronic Atrophic Gastritis by some authors, who considered, until some time ago, that they both were independent lesions. In this study, we examined 42 antral or corporal gastric biopsies with Chronic Atrophic Gastritis at different stages, with histological lesions going from "deep lymphoid infiltration" in the proper gastric glands, to the replacement by fibro inflammatory tissue...
