The strong interaction between light and matter is one of the current research hotspots in the field of nanophotonics, and provides a suitable platform for fundamental physics research such as on nanolasers, high-precision sensing in biology, quantum communication and quantum computing. In this study, double Rabi splitting was achieved in a composite structure monolayer MoS2 and a single Ag@Au hollow nanocube (HNC) in room temperature mainly due to the two excitons in monolayer MoS2 . Moreover, the tuning of the plasmon resonance peak was realized in the scattering spectrum by adjusting the thickness of the shell to ensure it matches the energy of the two excitons...

Monolayer molybdenum disulfide ( M o S 2 ) has a weak light-matter interaction due to ultrathin thickness, which limits its potential application in lasing action. In this study, we propose a hybrid structure consisting of a nanocavity and Au nanoparticles to enhance the photon emission efficiency of monolayer M o S 2 . Numerical simulations show that photoluminescence (PL) emission is significantly enhanced by introducing localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) to the proposed structure. Furthermore, an exciton energy band system is proposed to elucidate the physical mechanism of the PL process...

The development of a highly sensitive, synthetically simple and economical SERS substrate is technically very important. A fast, economical, sensitive and reproducible CuNPs@AgNPs@ Porous silicon Bragg reflector (PSB) SERS substrate was prepared by electrochemical etching and in situ reduction method. The developed CuNPs@AgNPs@PSB has a large specific surface area and abundant "hot spot" region, which makes the SERS performance excellent. Meanwhile, the successful synthesis of CuNPs@AgNPs can not only modulate the plasmon resonance properties of nanoparticles, but also effectively prolong the time stability of Cu nanoparticles...

With the help of a theoretical model and finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulations based on the hydrodynamic-Maxwell model, we examine the effect of difference-frequency generation (DFG) in an array of L-shaped metal nanoparticles (MNPs) characterized by intrinsic plasmonic nonlinearity. The outcomes of the calculations reveal the spectral interplay between gain and loss in the vicinity of the fundamental frequency of the localized surface plasmon resonances. Subsequently, we identify different array thicknesses and pumping regimes facilitating parametric amplification and spontaneous parametric downconversion...

Histamine is among the biogenic amines that are formed during the microbial decarboxylation of amino acids in various food products, posing a significant threat to both food safety and human health. Herein, we present a one-step synthesis of PEGylated gold nanoparticles (PEG-AuNPs) for rapid, simple, and cost-effective colorimetric histamine detection. PEG-AuNPs' surface plasmon resonance (SPR) range at 520-530 nm with a hydrodynamic size distribution of 20-40 nm. Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectra confirmed the reduction of AuNPs at 1645 cm-1 along with the other observed peaks at 2870, 1350, and 1100 cm-1 as a strong evidence for the presence of PEG...

This protocol describes the synthesis of Au nanoparticle seeds and the subsequent formation of Au-Sn bimetallic nanoparticles. These nanoparticles have potential applications in catalysis, optoelectronics, imaging, and drug delivery. Previously, methods for producing alloy nanoparticles have been time-consuming, require complex reaction conditions, and can have inconsistent results. The outlined protocol first describes the synthesis of approximately 13 nm Au nanoparticle seeds using the Turkevich method. Taking advantage of fluorescence imaging confined to the nano-interface, we examined actin organization in breast cancer cell lines with different metastatic potentials during cell adhesion. Live-cell fluorescence imaging confined within tens of nanometers from the substrate shows a high actin density spanning < 1 μm from the cell edge...

A dual-mode, protein-free and label-free aptamer sensor based on plasmonic colorimetry and G4 fluorescence (PC@GF-aptasensor) was proposed for ochratoxin A (OTA). Colorimetry mode was achieved through the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) effect, which related to the OTA-Apt-based G4-OTA. The pathogenic mechanisms of bacterial infections and resultant sepsis are partly attributed to dysregulated inflammatory responses sustained by some late-acting mediators including the procathepsin-L (pCTS-L). It was entirely unknown whether any compounds of the U.S. Drug Collection could suppress pCTS-L-induced inflammation, and pharmacologically be exploited into possible therapies. Here, we demonstrated that a macrophage cell-based screening of a U.S. Drug Collection of 1360 compounds resulted in the identification of progesterone (PRO) as an inhibitor of pCTS-L-mediated production of several chemokines [e...

Mg nanoparticles are an emerging plasmonic material due to Mg's abundance and ability to sustain size- and shape-dependent localized surface plasmon resonances across a broad range of wavelengths from the ultraviolet to the near infrared. However, Mg nanoparticles are colloidally unstable due to their tendency to aggregate and sediment. Nanoparticle aggregation can be inhibited by the addition of capping agents that impart surface charges or steric repulsion. Here, we report that the common capping agents poly(vinyl) pyrrolidone (PVP), polyethylene glycol (PEG), cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), and sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) interact differently and have varied effects on the aggregation and colloidal stability of Mg nanoparticles...
