In this study, the polyvinylpyrrolidone-alizarin nanoparticles (PVP-AZ NPs) with favorable water dispersion and the carbon quantum dots (RQDs) with aggregate induced emission effect were synthesized to construct an eco-friendly film for food freshness monitoring. The introduction of PVP-AZ NPs and RQDs enhanced the network structure and thermal stability of the cassava starch/polyvinyl alcohol film, and reduced its crystallinity and light transmittance via non-covalent binding with the film-forming matrix. The developed film exhibited visually recognizable colorimetric and fluorescent responses to ammonia at 0...

In this work, a colorimetric aptasensor based on magnetic beads (MBs), gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) and Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) was prepared for the detection of mucin 1 (MUC1). Complementary DNA of the MUC1 aptamer (Apt) immobilized on the MBs was combined with the prepared AuNPs-Apt-HRP complex (AuNPs@Apt-HRP). In the presence of MUC1, it specifically bound to Apt, resulting in the detachment of gold nanoparticles from the MBs. After magnetic separation, AuNPs@Apt-HRP was separated into the supernatant and reacted with 3,3',5,5'-Tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) to produce color reaction from colorless to blue...

Synthetic dyes are persistent organic environmental pollutants that can cause extensive damage to living beings and to the ecosystem as a whole. Cost-effective, sustainable, and efficient strategies to deal with this type of pollution are necessary as it commonly resists conventional water treatment methods. Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) synthesized using the aqueous extract from the leaves, stem, and fruits of Leucaena leucocephala (Leucena) were produced and characterized through UV-vis, TEM, EDS, SDL, XPS, XRD, and zeta potential, and they proved to be able to promote adsorption to remediate methylene blue and tartrazine pollution in water...

Increased glycine concentrations are associated with altered metabolism of cancer cells and is reflected in the bodily fluids of the brain cancer patients. Various studies have been conducted in past to detect glycine as an imaging biomarker via NMR Spectroscopy tools. However, the use is limited because of the low concentration and different in vivo detection due to overlapping of peaks with myo-inositol in same spectral position. Alongside, little is known about the electrochemical potential of Glycine as a biomarker for brain cancer...

In this work, the plasmonic effect of Au and Ag nanoparticles in the heterostructure photocatalyst system (TiO2/rGO) was studied. The laser ablation approach was applied to synthesize Au and Ag nanoparticles to eliminate impurity influence in this plasmonic study. Characterizing tools such as SEM, TEM, XRD, Raman, UV-vis spectral techniques were applied to obtain morphological information and optical properties of the nanocomposites. Photocatalytic properties of ternary nanocomposities such as, TiO2/rGO/Ag and TiO2/rGO/Au, were evaluated against Methylene blue and Congo red dyes with changing concentration of plasmonic nanoparticles (Au and Ag) and it was founded that the nanocomposite with the concentration of 10-11 mol/L Au NPs in TiO2/rGO has the best photocatalytic activity...

The limited access to fresh water and the increased presence of emergent pollutants (EPs) in wastewater has increased the interest in developing strategies for wastewater remediation, including photocatalysis. Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3 N4 ) is a 2D non-metal material with outstanding properties, such as a 2.7 eV bandgap and physicochemical stability, making it a promising photocatalyst. This work reports the process of obtaining high-surface-area (SA) g-C3 N4 using the thermal-exfoliation process and the posterior effect of Ag-nanoparticle loading over the exfoliated g-C3 N4 surface...

Fungi infection is a serious threat to public health, but an effective antifungal strategy remains a challenge. Herein, a biomimetic nanocomposite with multifunctionalities, including fungi diagnosis, antifungal adhesion, precise fungi elimination, and cytokine sequestration, is constructed for battling Candida albicans (C. albicans) infection. By screening a range of cells, we find that the polarized macrophage cells have the strongest binding tendency toward C. albicans. Thus, their membranes were exfoliated to camouflage UCNPs and then decorated with photosensitizers (methylene blue, MB) and DNA sensing elements...

Glioblastoma is one of the most aggressive and invasive types of brain cancer with a 5-year survival rate of 6.8%. With limited options, patients often have poor quality of life and are moved to palliative care after diagnosis. As a result, there is an extreme need for a novel theranostic method that allows for early diagnosis and noninvasive treatment as current peptide-based delivery standards may have off-target effects. Prussian Blue nanoparticles (PBNPs) have recently been investigated as photoacoustic imaging (PAI) and photothermal ablation agents...

Large negative photoconductance (NPC) of SnO2 /TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) heterostructure has been observed with thin film transistor (TFT) geometry and has been investigated using sub-bandgap light (blue) illumination. This negative photoconduction has been detected both in accumulation and depletion mode operation, which effectively reduces the carrier mobility ( μ ) of the TFT. Moreover, the threshold voltage ( V th ) widely shifted in the positive direction under illumination. The combined effects of the reduction of mobility and V th shifting led to a faster reduction of On (or Off) state current under illumination...

Chemotherapy in combination with immunotherapy can restrict tumor progression and repolarize the tumor microenvironment towards an anti-tumor milieu, improving clinical outcome in TNBC patients. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) play a vital role in wound healing process by fighting against invaded bacteria. However, excess ROS at the wound sites lead to oxidative stress that can trigger deleterious effects, causing cell death, tissue damage and chronic inflammation. Therefore, we fabricated a core-shell structured nanomedicine with antibacterial and antioxidant properties via a facile and green strategy. Specifically, Prussian blue (PB) nanozyme was fabricated and followed by coating a layer of epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG)-derived polymer via polyphenolic condensation reaction and self-assembly process, resulting in PB@EGCG...

The glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c ) level, which is defined as the ratio of HbA1c to total hemoglobin (tHb, including glycated and unglycated hemoglobin), is considered one of the preferred indicators for diabetes monitoring. Generally, assessment of the HbA1c level requires separate determination of tHb and HbA1c concentrations after a complex separation step. This undoubtedly increases the cost of the assay, and the loss or degradation of HbA1c during the separation process results in a decrease in the accuracy of the assay...
