BACKGROUND: Although laparoscopy is becoming the standard of care for the treatment of colorectal disease, its application in case of postoperative peritonitis is still not widespread. The objective of this article is to evaluate the role of laparoscopy in the management of postoperative peritonitis after elective minimally invasive colorectal resection for malignant and benign diseases. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Between April 2010 and May 2016, 536 patients received primary minimally invasive colorectal surgery at our Department...

BACKGROUND: Prompt management of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) complications is essential in avoiding prolonged hospital stay and associated mortality. The value of routine computed tomography (CT) scan examination in early diagnosis of postoperative complications after LSG has not been studied. OBJECTIVES: To prospectively assess the impact of postoperative day (POD) 2 CT scan after LSG. SETTING: Department of Minimally Invasive Digestive Surgery, Antoine-Beclere Hospital, AP-HP, Paris-Saclay University, France...

The results of examination and treatment were analyzed in 51 patients with iatrogenic injuries of the bile-excreting ducts. Patients were divided into 5 groups according to international classification (EAES, 2013). It depended on the time of detection, the nature and scale of damage of the bile ducts, mechanism of injury, development of infectious and septic complications. Injuries of the main bile duct were detected intraoperatively (n = 14). The complete intersection was in 10 patients (the first group) and the edge intersection--in 4 cases (the second group)...

BACKGROUND: Over the years, many treatment modes have been attempted for gastrocutaneous fistula (GCF) after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG). Minimally invasive techniques for GCF treatment include stent placement and radiological percutaneous glue treatment (GT). MATERIAL AND METHOD: Ten patients underwent a radiological acrylate mixed with contrast medium GT combined or not with other treatment strategies such as relaparoscopy, ultrasound, or computerized tomography scan (CT scan)-guided drain and endoscopic stent placement...

BACKGROUND: Management of complications of laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair remains challenging as well as debatable. Relaparoscopy in management of these complications is relatively newer concept. We tried to analyse the feasibility of relaparoscopy (transabdominal preperitoneal approach) in management of complications of laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study group included 61 patients (referral cases) from a prospectively maintained database of previous laparoscopic inguinal hernia surgery with majority of the patients of recurrence (n = 39)...

The management of choledocholithiasis has evolved from open common bile duct exploration (OCBDE) to therapeutic endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) to laparoscopic common bile duct exploration (LCBDE). Each entails a degree of difficulty. Aim. To review 5-year results of bile duct exploration in an UGI unit. Methods. Common bile duct explorations (CBDEs) performed between January 2008 and January 2013 were identified from a prospectively collected clinical audit system and results reviewed retrospectively...

INTRODUCTION: Sacropexy is a generally applied treatment of prolapse, yet there are known possible complications of it. An essential need exists for better alloplastic materials. METHODS: Between April 2013 and June 2014, we performed a modified laparoscopic bilateral sacropexy (MLBS) in 10 patients using a MRI-visible PVDF mesh implant. Selected patients had prolapse POP-Q stages II-III and concomitant OAB. We studied surgery-related morbidity, anatomical and functional outcome, and mesh-visibility in MRI...

BACKGROUND: Laparoscopy has increasingly become the standard of care for patients who undergo colorectal surgery for both benign and malignant disease. This is a pictorial report of rare sequelae after an unintended intraoperative rupture of a cystic teratoma. A 30-year-old woman was operated on for a mature cystic teratoma of the right ovary with an unintended intraoperative rupture of the ovarian tumor during the procedure. Postoperatively, the final immune histologic report showed partial neuroendocrine differentiation of an immature origin. At relaparoscopy for staging 7 weeks later, several suspicious peritoneal lesions of up to a 2.5-cm diameter were discovered and excised for which malignancy could not be excluded macroscopically...

The rest 2 patients had acalculous postcholecystectomy stricture. The laparoscopic CDS was executed by 5 trocars: 4 were placed in standard cholecystectomy positions and the 5th was placed by the right pararectal line at the umbilicus level and was used for traction of duodenum and continuous aspiration...

PURPOSE: Bile leakage is one of the most important complications of laparoscopic cholecystectomy, and it has been recognized as a major clinical challenge during the last 2 decades. Although endoscopic and percutaneous interventions are widely accepted in the management of bile leakage, relaparoscopy permits the bile drainage adequately and gives direct control of bile leakage site in selected patients. METHODS: Data for patients with minor bile leakage after laparoscopic cholecystectomy were collected from January 2001 to January 2010...

Results of relaparoscopy were analyzed in 42 patients with complications appearing after using 297 laparoscopic choledocholithotomies. Relaparotomies were classified according to the indications and terms from the main interventions. An analysis of complications after laparoscopic choledocholithotomy was made. The authors made a conclusion that relaparoscopy was an effective little-invasive method of diagnostics and correction of postoperative complications.

Single-port laparoscopic cholecystectomy was developed with the aim of reducing the invasiveness of traditional laparoscopy, diminishing postoperative pain and morbidity. The aim of this prospective study was to assess the feasibility and the efficacy of this new approach. Between April and December 2009, a total of 21 patients underwent single-port laparoscopic cholecystectomy for symptomatic gallbladder stone disease. Single surgeon, elective patient, no preoperative diagnosis of common bile duct stone and no previous upper abdominal surgery were the selection criteria chosen for the study...
