Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have increasingly been shown to be important biological regulators involved in numerous diseases. Further, increasing evidence demonstrates that circulating lncRNAs can be used as diagnostic biomarkers. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the potential for circulating lncRNAs as novel biomarkers for the diagnosis of preeclampsia. In the present study, we measured the expression of five lncRNAs known to be relevant to the uterus in whole blood samples from 48 preeclampsia patients and 24 non-preeclampsia healthy subjects using qRT-PCR...

Benzene, a widespread environmental pollutant, induces DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs) and DNA repair, which may further lead to oncogenic mutations, chromosomal rearrangements and leukemogenesis. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying benzene-induced DNA repair and carcinogenesis remain unclear. The human osteosarcoma cell line (U2OS/DR-GFP), which carries a GFP-based homologous recombination (HR) repair reporter, was treated with hydroquinone, one of the major benzene metabolites, to identify the potential effects of benzene on DSB HR repair...

We report the first observation of the spontaneous polarization of Λ and Λ[over ¯] hyperons transverse to the production plane in e^{+}e^{-} annihilation, which is attributed to the effect arising from a polarizing fragmentation function. For inclusive Λ/Λ[over ¯] production, we also report results with subtracted feed-down contributions from Σ^{0} and charm. This measurement uses a dataset of 800.4  fb^{-1} collected by the Belle experiment at or near a center-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV. We observe a significant polarization that rises with the fractional energy carried by the Λ/Λ[over ¯] hyperon...
