Cannabis use disorder (CUD) is the most frequent reason for psychiatric inpatient substance use disorder (SUD) treatment among 15-19-year-olds in Germany. Despite effective treatment programs, relapse rates remain high. Thus, existing multi-component programs (TAU) need to be enhanced with SUD-specific elements. Mindfulness-based interventions (MBI) seem promising as they can positively influence SUD-related behaviors (e. g. craving). Given limited research in adolescents, this randomized controlled trial investigated the extent to which MBI-based group therapy (Mind it!) as an add-on treatment to TAU led to fewer cannabis use days after 6 months in 84 adolescent inpatients with CUD...

The article discusses the evolution of the Brazilian College of Surgeons (CBC) specialist title exam, highlighting the importance of evaluating not only theoretical knowledge, but also the practical skills and ethical behavior of candidates. The test was instituted in 1971, initially with only the written phase, and later included the oral practical test, starting with the 13th edition in 1988. In 2022, the assessment process was improved by including the use of simulated stations in the practical test, with the aim of assessing practical and communication skills, as well as clinical reasoning, in order to guarantee excellence in the assessment of surgeons training...

Mental health nurses (MHNs) experience a range of stressors as part of their work, which can impact their well-being and turnover intention. There is no prior evidence, however, on MHNs' mental health, well-being, resilience, and turnover intention during the COVID-19 pandemic. The aims of this online survey-based cross-sectional study, conducted during the pandemic, were to explore the psychological distress, well-being, emotional intelligence, coping self-efficacy, resilience, posttraumatic growth, sense of workplace belonging, and turnover intention of n = 144 Australian mental health registered and enrolled nurses; and explore relationships between these variables, in particular, psychological distress, well-being, and turnover intention...

Parkinson's disease is characterised by the core motor symptoms: bradykinesia, rigidity and tremor. The disease also has a number of non-motor symptoms, such as visual impairment. Patients may experience blurred vision, sensitivity to light, difficulties in reading, and a subjective feeling of rapid eye fatigue. The visual impairments also affect the patients' motor skills, as vision compensates for poor postural control and difficulty initiating movement. It is important to identify common but frequently underdiagnosed visual impairment, and initiate measures that can increase quality of life and pattern of movement...

BACKGROUND: Venous leg ulcers affect 1.5% of the UK adult population. Leg ulcers are painful, can be malodourous and are associated with poor quality of life. Leg ulcers are predominantly cared for by nurses in the community. Frequently, patients receive suboptimal treatment through unwanted variations in care and simple ulcers deteriorate to become hard-to-heal wounds. It is important to understand the current UK system of care and how nurses and patients navigate through it. AIM: The aim of this paper was to understand how, when, for whom and in what context leg ulcers are cared for in the United Kingdom and specifically, the current system of care, the nurses' role and the patients' experience in this system of care...

BACKGROUND: Although patient safety culture is gaining attention globally, more studies are needed to investigate its relevance to the nursing care of mental health (MH) patients. AIMS: This study aimed to illustrate the perceptions and experiences of nurses who work in inpatient mental health care (IMHC) concerning the patient safety practices that are employed to avert safety hazards encountered during the provision of care in IMHC settings. METHODS: Eighteen postgraduate students working as MH nurses in nonprofit hospitals comprised the study sample...

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Use of recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH) treatment to increase height in children with non-growth hormone deficient short stature is becoming more common. Yet, the evidence to support the notion that augmenting height directly leads to increased well being, specifically psychosocial well being, is inconsistent, with high-quality evidence lacking. RECENT FINDINGS: Review of recent studies demonstrates that the association between height augmentation and psychosocial well being is complex...

INTRODUCTION: Ethical reasoning is an important skill for all physicians who often face complex ethical dilemmas in their daily practice. Therefore, medical training should include methods for learning ethical theories and concepts, as well as how to apply them in practical situations. AIM: Assess the contribution of an Ethical Reasoning Learning session to fifth medical students' training through a comparison of results of the same objective and structured clinical examination (OSCE) in the form of simulated interview before and after sessions...

The World Health Organization reveals that pediatric burns represent a large portion of burns globally (61). Increases in survival rates have guided clinical and research focus on physical, psychological, and social outcomes. Research on other childhood illnesses has shown the efficacy of social support throughout recovery. In the pediatric burn literature, studies have shown the efficacy of burn camps for promoting positive interactions among survivors, learning coping skills, and facilitating socialization and reintegration...

OBJECTIVE: To instantly stop life threatening abdominal bleeding (e.g., a ruptured abdominal aneurysm), every surgeon should be familiar with the principles of emergency laparotomy (EL) and aortic clamping. Simulation training in a safe environment can be used to rehearse these situations like other medical emergencies. Owing to the lack of a suitable commercial simulator, a homemade task trainer was constructed. This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of an EL simulation training course among surgical residents using this low cost task trainer...

INTRODUCTION: High-quality pre-registration student nurse training and development is integral to developing a sustainable and competent global nursing workforce. Internationally, student nurse recruitment rates have increased since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic; however, attrition rates for student nurses are high. During the pandemic, many student nurses considered leaving the programme due to academic concerns, feeling overwhelmed, and doubting their clinical skills. Little was known about the extent to which nursing education prior to COVID-19 had prepared students for their role in managing the healthcare crisis or the impact on their resilience...

BACKGROUND: Nurses' clinical decision-making, i.e., the data collection, analysis, and evaluation process through which they reach clinical judgements and makes clinical decisions, is at the core of nursing practice and essential to provide safe and quality care. Instruments to assess nurses' perceptions of their clinical decision-making abilities or skills have been developed for research and education. Thus, it is essential to determine the most valid and reliable instruments available to reflect nurses' self-reported clinical decision-making accurately...

BACKGROUND: Inadequate training on how to care for haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis catheters can lead to mechanical issues with the catheters and infectious complications (such as peritonitis) that could endanger patient safety, reduce the effectiveness of the dialysis treatment, and have a negative impact on patient morbidity and mortality.
