Lung cancer causes the most cancer deaths and needs new treatment strategies urgently. Salvia miltiorrhiza is a classical Chinese herb and a strong candidate for tumor treatment. The study found that the aqueous extract of Salvia miltiorrhiza (DSAE), ethanol extract of Salvia miltiorrhiza (DSEE), and its active components danshensu (DSS) and dihydrotanshinone I (DHI), exhibited antineoplastic effects in vivo and in vitro. Meanwhile, DSAE, DSEE, DSS, and DHI reduced glycolysis metabolites (ATP, lactate, and pyruvate contents) production, decreased aerobic glycolysis enzymes, and inhibited Seahorse indexes (OCR and ECAR) in Lewis lung cancer cells (LLC)...

The purpose of this study is to investigate the potential mechanisms of Chinese herbs for the treatment of insomnia using a combination of data mining, network pharmacology, and molecular-docking validation. All the prescriptions for insomnia treated by the academician Qi Wang from 2020 to 2022 were collected. The Ancient and Modern Medical Case Cloud Platform v2.3 was used to identify high-frequency Chinese medicinal herbs and the core prescription. The Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology and UniProt databases were utilized to predict the effective active components and targets of the core herbs...

Coccidia of the genus Eimeria are important pathogens that cause coccidiosis in livestock and poultry. Due to the expansion of intensive farming, coccidiosis has become more difficult to control. In addition, the continued use of anti-coccidiosis drugs has led to drug resistance and residue. Some herbs used in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) have been shown to alleviate the clinical symptoms of coccidiosis, while enhancing immunity and growth performance (GP) of livestock and poultry. Previous in vitro and in vivo studies have reported that the TCM herb Portulaca oleracea exhibited anti-parasitic activities...

Objective: The aim of this study is to uncover the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) treatments for chronic gastritis and their potential targets and pathways involved in the "inflammation-cancer" conversion in four stages. These findings can provide further support for future research into TCM and its active components. Materials and methods: The literature search encompassed PubMed, Web of Science, Google Scholar, CNKI, WanFang, and VIP, employing keywords such as "chronic gastritis", "gastric cancer", "traditional Chinese medicine", "medicinal herb", "Chinese herb", and "natural plant"...

Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) is integral to a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) system. Accurately identifying Chinese herbal medicine is crucial for quality control and prescription compounding verification. However, with many Chinese herbal medicines and some with similar appearances but different therapeutic effects, achieving precise identification is a challenging task. Traditional manual identification methods have certain limitations, including labor-intensive, inefficient. Deep learning techniques for Chinese herbal medicine identification can enhance accuracy, improve efficiency and lower coats...

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: As a classical traditional Chinese medicine formula to invigorating spleen and replenishing qi, Sijunzi decoction (SJZD) is composed of four herbs, which is applied to cure spleen deficiency syndrome (SDS) clinically. The non-polysaccharides (NPSs) of SJZD (SJZD_NPS) are important pharmacodynamic material basis. However, the amelioration mechanism of SJZD_NPS on SDS has not been fully elaborated. Additionally, the contribution of herbs compatibility to efficacy of this formula remains unclear...

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Chemotherapy tolerance weakened efficacy of chemotherapy drugs in the treating gastric cancer (GC). Banxiaxiexin decoction (BXXXD) was widely used in digestive diseases for thousands of years in Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). In order to better treat GC, three other herbs were added to BXXXD to create a new prescription named Modified Banxiaxiexin decoction (MBXXXD). Although MBXXXD potentially treated GC by improving chemotherapy tolerance, the possible mechanisms were still unknown...

Si Ni San combined with Astragalus (SNSQ) has demonstrated significant efficacy in the treatment of hepatic fibrosis (HF), as confirmed by clinical practice. However, its pharmacological mechanism remains unclear. This study employs network pharmacology to identify key targets and proteins for molecular docking. Additionally, animal experiments were conducted to validate the network pharmacology results, providing further insights into the mechanism of SNSQ in treating HF. Effective compounds of SNSQ were screened from the Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology (TCMSP) and Encyclopedia of Traditional Chinese Medicine (ETCM) databases...

Recent trends suggest that Chinese herbal medicine formulas (CHM formulas) are promising treatments for complex diseases. To characterize the precise syndromes, precise diseases and precise targets of the precise targets between complex diseases and CHM formulas, we developed an artificial intelligence-based quantitative predictive algorithm (DeepTCM). DeepTCM has gone through multilevel model calibration and validation against a comprehensive set of herb and disease data so that it accurately captures the complex cellular signaling, molecular and theoretical levels of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM)...

BACKGROUND: Shengmai Formula (SMF), a classic formula in treating Qi-Yin deficiency, is composed of Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma Rubra (GRR), Ophiopogon Radix (OR), and Schisandra chinensis Fructus (SC), and has been developed into various dosage forms including Shengmai Yin Oral Liquid (SMY), Shengmai Capsules (SMC), and Shengmai Injection (SMI). The pharmacological effects of compound Chinese medicine are attributed to the integration of multiple components. Yet the quality criteria of SMF are limited to monitoring schisandrol A or ginsenosides Rg1 and Re, but none for OR...
