Manuel Straub was one of the forefathers of Dutch ophthalmology and is well known for his early work on phacogenic uveitis and refraction. Tin-117 has certain physical characteristics (half-life of 13.6 days, low-energy-conversion electrons, gamma photon of 158.6 keV) that suggest that it may be a favorable agent for radionuclide therapy. It has been shown in animal models that Sn-117m in the chemical form Sn(4+)diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid localizes selectively in bone. Bacteriological diagnosis was applied to Douglas' pouch swabs taken off 119 patients, most of them with non-inflammatory genital diseases. The authors report on two woman patients with confirmed Wilson's disease (hepatolenticular degeneration) who had neurological deficits and showed typical changes evident from laboratory data. Both computed tomography and magnetic resonance tomography revealed degenerative changes in the basal ganglia, especially of the lenticular nucleus, MR showing these defects more clearly than CT. In January 1984 the River Dee in north Wales was contaminated with phenol, with subsequent contamination of the tap water received by about two million consumers. A retrospective postal survey of 594 households was undertaken to determine whether consumption of this contaminated water was associated with illness. The flexible cassette is a detector of undisputable value, particularly in the radiology of patients who have been subjected to trauma, patients who cannot be transported and above all in "locked" joints. Thus the authors think that it is indispensable for all radiologists to have a set of flexible cassettes at their disposal.

In a third information of our long-term study with now 304 cases we report on 54 cases with monotherapy-only orchiectomy, only hormones and combination of boths. With it the rectal palpable results have coincided significantly with the histological findings in all 3 therapeutic forms. As for the therapeutic result no difference is to be seen either histological or clinical after a 3 years' observation period. 31 children, presenting with rather uncharacteristic symptoms of an infectious disease and being referred to this clinic mostly because of lymphadenitis of the neck (81%) and/or signs of meningitis (45%), were seen within a period of only eight weeks and proved to suffer from Leptospirosis (L. grippotyphosa). The majority of the patients belonged to the age group of one to six years and lived in rural environs. In 38 healthy persons ranging in age from 23 to 30 years the visual evoked potential over both hemispheres were taken and the latencies and amplitudes of waves I-V registered, first undisturbed, then following defined eye and arm movements, and acustic irritation. The results of 30 persons could be evaluated. It is shown that under these experimental conditions the form of visual evoked potentials is practically undisturbed.

1-(m-Methoxyphenyl)-2-(dimethylaminomethyl)-cyclohexan-1-ol (L 201) was split into the cis- and trans-isomers and the conformations of the two isomers were determined by 13C-NMR-spectroscopy. Molecule models showed that both conformeres were similar to the geometrical structure of morphine. The adaptation of the morphine structure was better with the more active trans-isomer than with the cis-isomer. Tramadol, the trans-isomer, was separated into its optical antipodes. A case is briefly described in which a typical conjunctivitis lignosa appeared after the eye had suffered lime burns. In order to help clarify the morphological connection between mucopolysaccharide production and fiber development in the tumor tissue which occurred after the burn, samples were examined histologically, histochemically and with the use of the electron microscope. Effects of methyl o-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxycinnamoyl) reserpate (CD-3400) on the central nervous system in mice, rats and cats were investigated, and a comparison was made with such effects of reserpine and rescinamine. Inhibitory effects of CD-3400 on spontaneous motor activity and conditioned avoidance response were weaker and shorter than those of reserpine and rescinnamine. In the experiments of the inhibitory effects of the central actions such as ptosis, hypothermia, decrease in motor ability, potentiation of hexobarbital and taming, reserpine was found to be the most potent followed by rescinnamine and CD-3400, respectively...
