Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a multifaceted condition influenced by genetic, hormonal, and environmental factors. Among environmental factors, Bisphenol A (BPA)-a recognized endocrine disruptor-has been implicated in the development of PCOS. The study aimed to compare BPA levels in women diagnosed with PCOS with those in healthy controls, using the high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) technique. The study involved 80 women diagnosed with PCOS and 50 healthy control participants. Demographic and biochemical parameters were recorded, including age, Body Mass Index (BMI), and levels of testosterone, estradiol, Luteinizing Hormone (LH), Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH), Prolactin (PRL), Dehydroepiandrosterone Sulfate (DHEA-S), Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH), and Insulin Resistance as measured by the Homeostatic Model Assessment (HOMA-IR)...

Surfactant protein A (SP-A) and Surfactant protein D (SP-D) glycoproteins play a crucial role in maintaining lung homeostasis and lung host defense. Interestingly, these proteins are also expressed in extra-pulmonary tissues, including the female genital tract. The ovarian tissue, where SP-A and SP-D expression increases with follicular development, may serve as the primary site of defense for this tissue. However, their functions in these tissues are not well understood and are currently an active area of research...

To observe developmental changes in the ovarian tissue structure and distribution characteristics of oestrogen receptors (ERs) in the ovaries of Huanghuai goats at different ages, we selected healthy Huanghuai goats ewes and divided them into five groups (i.e. 3-, 30-, 60-, 90- and 120-day-old groups), with 10 animals in each group. The serum was separated after blood collection through the jugular vein, and the contents of oestrogen (E) and progesterone (P) in the serum of Huanghuai goats at each age were determined...

BACKGROUND: Tamoxifen is a drug that has been used extensively as a chemotherapeutic agent for breast cancer. It should be taken for a long period, from few weeks up to many years, so it can induce gynecological and nongynecological complications. AIM: Present study was conducted to clarify the histopathological effects of tamoxifen intake on the ovarian follicles of rats and evaluate the promising recovery after drug withdrawal. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Adult female albino rats ( n = 24) were randomly divided into four groups...

BACKGROUND: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is an endocrinological and metabolic disorder that can lead to female infertility. Lipid metabolomics and proteomics are the new disciplines in systems biology aimed to discover metabolic pathway changes in diseases and diagnosis of biomarkers. This study aims to reveal the features of PCOS to explore its pathogenesis at the protein and metabolic level. METHODS: We collected follicular fluid samples and granulosa cells of women with PCOS and normal women who underwent in vitro fertilization(IVF) and embryo transfer were recruited...

Steroids and gonadotrophins are essential for the regulation of late stages of preantral development and antral follicular development. Although the luteinizing hormone receptor (LHCGR) has been detected in the preantral follicles of rats, rabbits, and pigs, its expression, in bovine fetal ovary, has not been demonstrated. Based on this, we aimed to investigate the expression of the LHCGR and LHCGR mRNA binding protein ( LRBP ), as well as, to quantify bta-miR-222 (a regulatory microRNA of the LHCGR gene) during the development of bovine fetal ovary...

Sinapic acid (SA) is renowned for its many pharmacological activities as a polyphenolic compound. The cause of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), a commonly encountered array of metabolic and hormonal abnormalities in females, has yet to be determined. The present experiment was performed to evaluate the antifibrotic properties of SA in rats with letrozole-induced PCOS-related ovarian fibrosis. SA treatment successfully mitigated the changes induced by letrozole in body weight (BW) ( p  < .01) and relative ovary weight ( p  < ...

Oxygen availability can have profound effects on cell fate decisions and survival, in part by regulating expression of hypoxia-inducible factors (HIFs). In the ovary, HIF expression has been characterised in granulosa cells, however, any requirement in oocytes remains relatively undefined. Here we developed a Hif2a/Epas1 germline-specific knockout mouse line in which females were fertile, however produced 40% fewer pups than controls. No defects in follicle development were detected, and quality of MII oocytes was normal, as per assessments of viability, intracellular reactive oxygen species, and spindle parameters...

Obesity impairs oocyte quality, fertility, pregnancy maintenance, and is associated with offspring birth defects. The model ovotoxicant, 7,12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene (DMBA), causes ovarian DNA damage and follicle loss. Both DMBA-induced chemical biotransformation and the DNA damage response are partially attenuated in obese relative to lean female mice but whether weight loss could improve the DNA damage response to DMBA exposure has not been explored. Thus, at six weeks of age, C57BL/6 J female mice were divided in three groups: 1) Lean (L; n = 20) fed a chow diet for 12 weeks, 2) obese (O; n = 20) fed a high fat high sugar (HFHS) diet for 12 weeks and, 3) slim-down (S; n = 20)...

A large portion of the world's population is affected by acne vulgaris (AV), with many of these individuals being adolescents. The underlying mechanism of AV is hyperkeratinization and Cutibacterium acnes infection of the pilosebaceous follicle secondary to excessive stimulation of sebaceous glands by androgens. Metformin is a biguanide medication primarily used in efforts to lower patients' sugar levels in the management of type 2 diabetes. It has been proven to reduce levels of circulating androgens in patients with insulin resistance, indicating its potential for treating AV...

Di-hexyl phthalate (2-ethylhexyl) (DEHP) has been confirmed to cause female reproductive toxicity in humans and model animals by affecting the survival of ovarian granulosa cells (GCs), but the interrelationships between DEHP's on autophagy, apoptosis, and inflammation in GCs are not clear. Our previous study demonstrated that DEHP exposure resulted in the disturbance of intestinal flora associated with serum LPS release, which in turn led to impaired ovarian function. LPS has also been shown to determine cell fate by modulating cellular autophagy, apoptosis, and inflammation...
