Objective: To investigate the clinical value of the seven-item Eustachian Tube Dysfunction Questionnaire(ETDQ-7) in evaluating Eustachian tube dysfunction before and after treatment. Method: A retrospective analysis of 50 patients with Eustachian tube dysfunction diagnosed. All the patients were given chymotrypsin 4 000 IU and dexamethasone injection 5 mg by blowing through the Eustachian tube under nasal endoscopic guidance once daily for 3-6 consecutive days. At the same time, azelastine hydrochloride nasal spray and budesonide nasal spray were applied, 2 sprays each time, 2 times a day; oral Olongma drops, 3 ml each time, 3 times a day...

BACKGROUND: Signs of inflammation are commonly encountered during endoscopic examination of the Eustachian tube (ET) region. The clinical applicability of these findings may be enhanced by use of a standardized assessment score. METHODS: Digital video recordings were obtained of 50 nasal endoscopy examinations of the nasopharyngeal portion of the ET. Four fellowship-trained rhinologists independently reviewed the videos with regard to specific physical findings: edema of the ET torus, erythema of the ET torus, exudate at the ET orifice, and presence of tubal tonsil...

BACKGROUND: Cerebrospinal fluid rhinorrhea from a lateral skull base defect refractory to spontaneous healing and/or conservative management is most commonly managed via open surgery. Approach for repair is dictated by location of the defect, which may require surgical exploration. The final common pathway is the eustachian tube (ET). Endoscopic ET obliteration via endonasal and lateral approaches is under development. Whereas ET anatomy has been studied, surgical landmarks have not been previously described or quantified...

The choice of the treatment strategy for the patients presenting with the patulous Eustachian tube syndrome constitutes a serious challenge for an otorhinolaryngologist. Despite the considerable progress achieved during the past years in the development of modern pharmacotherapy and functional endoscopic surgery, the specialists often encounter difficulties in the management of the patients suffering from this disease. The present article (continuing the previous communication) contains information concerning the historical and modern approaches to the treatment of the patients with the patulous Eustachian tube syndrome...

Myringoplasty aims to reconstruct the tympanic membrane, restoring protection to the middle ear and improve hearing. Success of Myringoplasty in terms of anatomical closure is influenced by many factors. This study focuses on the influence of size and site of tympanic membrane perforation on success rate of Myringoplasty. This is a prospective study of 60 patients who underwent myringoplasty and were then followed up for 6 months from the date of operation. Patients with dry perforation, with good cochlear reserve, intact and mobile ossicular chain, functioning Eustachian tube were selected randomly for the operation...

Traditionally, otologists have aimed to produce a clean, dry, safe ear with the best possible hearing result. More recently, "less invasively" has been added to this list of goals. The development of small-diameter, high-quality rigid endoscopes and high-definition video systems has made totally endoscopic, transcanal surgery a reality in adult otology and a possibility in pediatric otology. This article reviews the anatomy of the pediatric middle ear and its surrounding airspaces and structures based on the work of dozens of researchers over the past 50 years...

This paper reviews the past and present developments in the treatment of chronic obstructive eustachian tube dysfunction. Alongside tube catheterization and bougie insertion, modern approaches such as laser eustachian tuboplasty and balloon eustachian tuboplasty (BET) are described. In BET, transnasal endoscopic insertion via the pharyngeal ostium places a balloon catheter in the cartilaginous portion of the eustachian tube. This is then dilated to a pressure of 10 bar for 2 min. Up until January 2013, 351 chronic obstructive eustachian tube dysfunction patients had been treated in our department using BET...

Eustachian tube dysfunction is closely related to the development of otitis media and result from several factors including inflammation within the nasal cavity and nasopharynx, adenoid hypertrophy, cleft palate and nasopharyngeal carcinoma. To some extent, eustachian tube dysfunction may be related to weakness of the paratubal muscles, such as the tensor veli palatini and levator veli palatini muscles. The aim of the study is to find out myogenic factors in eustachian tube dysfunction using electromyography (EMG), and to evaluate the clinical feasibility of EMG...
