Andrographis paniculata (Burm. f.) Nees is an important medicinal plant known for its bioactive compound andrographolide. NAC transcription factors (NAM, ATAF1/2, and CUC2) play a crucial role in secondary metabolite production, stress responses, and plant development through hormonal signaling. In this study, a putative partial transcript of three NAC family genes ( ApNAC83 , ApNAC21 22 and ApNAC02 ) was used to isolate full length genes using RACE. Bioinformatics analyses such as protein structure prediction, cis-acting regulatory elements, and gene ontology analysis were performed...

Phenolic compounds are the main phytochemical constituents of many higher plants. They play an important role in synthesizing metal nanoparticles using green technology due to their ability to reduce metal salts and stabilize them through physical interaction/conjugation to the metal surface. Six pure phenolic compounds were isolated from licorice ( Glycyrrhiza glabra ) and employed in synthesizing gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). The isolated compounds were identified as liquiritin ( 1 ), isoliquiritin ( 2 ), neoisoliquiritin ( 3 ), isoliquiritin apioside ( 4 ), liquiritin apioside ( 5 ), and glabridin ( 6 )...

The World Health Organization (WHO) promotes research aimed at developing new drugs from natural compounds. Fungi are important producers of bioactive molecules, and they are often effective against other fungi and/or bacteria and are thus a potential source of new antibiotics. Basidiomycota crude extracts, which have previously been proven to be active against Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC27853, were subjected to liquid chromatographic separation by RP-18, leading to six macro-fractions for each fungal extract...

The need to explore the abundance of natural products cannot be overemphasized particularly in the management of various disease conditions. In traditional medical practice, Vernonia amygdalina has been widely adopted in the management of various inflammatory disorders. The objective of this investigation was to isolate the bioactive principles from the stem-bark and root of V. amygdalina and assess the anti-inflammatory ( in vitro ) activity of both the crude extracts and the isolated compounds. Following extraction with the methanol, the extract was subjected to gravity column chromatography and the resultant fractions was further purified to obtained pure compounds...

Kaempferia galanga rhizome is traditionally used as a treatment for various diseases. Ethyl p -methoxycinnamate (EPMC), which constitutes up to 31.77% of the total essential oil, is the main/marker compound. EPMC is responsible for various pharmacological activities of Kaempferia galanga rhizome. According to the existing research, the isolation yield of EPMC is still meager, namely 0.50-2.50%; thus, a new EPMC isolation method is needed to produce better results. In this study, after determining the association constant and obtaining the Jobs plot between methacrylate derivative monomers and EPMC, a molecularly imprinted polymer for solid phase extraction (MI-SPE) was synthesized through bulk polymerization with EPMC as a template, methacrylic acid as a monomer, TRIM/EDGMA as a crosslinker in a ratio of 1 : 4 : 20 (MIP1) or 1 : 7 : 20 (MIP2)...

BACKGROUND: African swine fever virus (ASFV) is a major threat to pig production and the lack of effective vaccines underscores the need to develop robust antiviral countermeasures. Pathologically, a significant elevation in pro-inflammatory cytokine production is associated with ASFV infection in pigs and there is high interest in identifying dual-acting natural compounds that exhibit antiviral and anti-inflammatory activities. METHODS: Using the laboratory-adapted ASFV BA71V strain, we screened a library of 297 natural, anti-inflammatory compounds to identify promising candidates that protected Vero cells against virus-induced cytopathic effect (CPE)...

Phytochemical investigation on aerial parts of Lysimachia atropurpurea L. Their structures were elucidated by 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy and HR-ESI-MS. Stralysaponins A-C were categorized into 13β-28-epoxyoleanane-type triterpenoid saponins, reaffirming their prevalent presence of this type in the Myrsinaceae family and the genus Lysimachia...

Linear nitramines (R-N(R')NO2 ; R' = H or alkyl) are toxic compounds, some with environmental relevance, while others are rare natural product nitramines. One of these natural product nitramines is N -nitroglycine (NNG), which is produced by some Streptomyces strains and exhibits antibiotic activity towards Gram-negative bacteria. An NNG degrading heme enzyme, called NnlA, has recently been discovered in the genome of Variovorax sp. strain JS1663 ( Vs NnlA). Evidence is presented that NnlA and therefore, NNG degradation activity is widespread...

The photoinduced cycloreversion of oxetane derivatives is of considerable biological interest since these compounds are involved in the photochemical formation and repair of the highly mutagenic pyrimidine (6-4) pyrimidone DNA photoproducts ((6-4)PPs). Previous reports have dealt with the photoreactivity of heterodimeric oxetanes composed mainly of benzophenone (BP) and thymine (Thy) or uracil (Ura) derivatives. However, these models are far from the non-isolable Thy〈º〉Thy dimers, which are the real precursors of (6-4)PPs...
