Many people were affected by COVID-19 in its severe form. Some intercurrences are still emerging. We here report two cases of COVID-related osteonecrosis of the jaws (CRONJ). Two retrospective cases were admitted into Imam Reza Hospital, Mashhad, Iran with suspected CRONJ. One patient escaped from hospital while the other showed a positive result after our proposed treatment. A new aftermath to COVID-19 infections is emerging. Maxillofacial and orthopedic surgeons should be aware of this situation. CRONJ should be on the suspect list in patients with COVID-19...

The clinical impact of platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) and plasma rich in growth factors (PRGF®) respectively has been studied extensively in the field of regenerative dentistry during the last two decades. Literature supports evidence for additional benefits in regenerative periodontal therapy, alveolar ridge preservation, management of extraction sockets, implantology including guided bone regeneration as well as defect management in oral surgery. Regarding gingival wound healing and soft tissue regeneration, there is sufficient evidence for their positive effects which have been confirmed in several systematic reviews...

The use of autologous platelet concentrates (APC) such as platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) and/or plasma rich in growth factors (PRGF®) is considered an established treatment modality in re-generative dentistry. The possibility of delivering growth factors over aclinically relevant time of several days seems particularly interesting in the context of wound healing. The growing body of evidence in the field of APC requires a continuous and actual knowledge of the literature for being able to make evidence-based treatment recommendations with a realistic assessment of possible advantages of this technology...

Tendons are fibroblastic structures that link muscle and bone. There are two kinds of tendon injuries, including acute and chronic. Each form of injury or deterioration can result in significant pain and loss of tendon function. The recovery of tendon damage is a complex and time-consuming recovery process. Depending on the anatomical location of the tendon tissue, the clinical outcomes are not the same. The healing of the wound process is divided into three stages that overlap: inflammation, proliferation, and tissue remodeling...

INTRODUCTION: Skin grafting is a routinely employed technique to cover the skin defect. Though the skin grafts are technically effortless, they are tiresome because of the prolonged duration of hospital stay, labor-intensive, demanding repeated dressings, and also create a second wound. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is one that has a higher concentration of platelets than the blood. Alpha granules of the platelets are rich in growth factors. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: To assess the effect of PRP on split-thickness skin graft uptake and donor site healing...

PURPOSE: To examine the effect of various biologic adjuvants on the polarization of macrophages in an in vitro model for rotator cuff tears. METHODS: Tissue was harvested from 6 patients undergoing arthroscopic rotator cuff repair. An in vitro model of the supraspinatus and subacromial bursa was created and treated with control, platelet rich plasma (PRP), autologous activated serum (AAS), or a combination of PRP+AAS. The effect of treatment on macrophage polarization between M1 pro-inflammatory macrophages or M2 anti-inflammatory macrophages was measured using gene expression, protein expression, flow cytometry and nitric oxide (NO) production...

Implant therapy is a common treatment option in dentistry and orthopedics, but its application is often associated with an increased risk of microbial contamination of the implant surfaces that cause bone tissue impairment. This study aims to develop two silver-enriched platelet-rich plasma (PRP) multifunctional scaffolds active at the same time in preventing implant-associated infections and stimulating bone regeneration. Commercial silver lactate (L) and newly synthesized silver deoxycholate:β-Cyclodextrin (B), were studied in vitro...

In addressing the limitations of conservative management, this study focuses on developing tendon grafts using extrusion bioprinting with platelet-rich plasma (PRP)-infused hydrogels loaded with tendon cells. The objective is to understand paracrine interactions initiated by bioprinted tendon grafts in either inflamed or non-inflamed host tissues. Due to the problems associated with the use of PRP, a platelet concentrates without coagulation factors, called platelet-rich fibrin (PRF), has been developed that, in addition to tissue regeneration and wound healing, contains more white blood cells (WBCs), which are important in the wound healing process. Wound dehiscence is a common complication after secondary alveolar bone grafting (SABG), leading to unfavourable surgical outcomes. Studies have shown that autologous platelet concentrates (APC) may enhance wound healing and improve outcomes. Therefore, this review aimed to evaluate in patients with alveolar clefts, whether using APC and iliac crest bone graft can mitigate the likelihood of wound dehiscence formation compared with those who underwent iliac bone grafting only following SABG. A comprehensive literature search was conducted using various electronic databases, including PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science, EBSCOhost, Ovid MEDLINE, LILACS, Cochrane Library, and grey literature, to include studies until July 31, 2023, without any restriction to language and time of publication...

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is an autologous blood-derived product that has gained significant attention in the treatment of tendinopathies as one of many treatment modalities in the field of regenerative medicine. Rotator cuff pathologies are the leading cause of shoulder pain. Despite the high success rate with conservative treatment and arthroscopic surgical repair, the search for a nonsurgical treatment has made PRP a trending topic recently. Human platelet lysates (HPLs) from allogeneic platelet concentrates (PCs) are biomaterials, which are rich in various trophic factors, increasingly used in regenerative medicine and biotherapy. Understanding how preparation methods influence the HPL protein profile, biological function, and clinical outcomes is crucial. Our study sheds light on the proteomes and functionality of different HPLs, with the aim of advancing their scientifically grounded clinical applications. Excess free radicals at the wound site can cause an inflammatory response, which is not conducive to wound healing. Hydrogels with antioxidant properties can prevent inflammatory storms by scavenging free radicals from the wound site and inhibiting the release of inflammatory factors. In this study, we prepared the carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCS)/polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP)/Molybdenum (IV) Selenide (MoSe2 ), and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) (CMCS/PVP/MoSe2 /PRP) hydrogels for accelerating the repair of wounds. In the hydrogels, the MoSe2 can scavenge various free radicals to reduce oxidative stress at the site of inflammation, endowed the hydrogels with antioxidant properties...
