AIM: The aims of this study were to identify the pathogen causing blackcurrant leaf spot, assess the pathogenicity of different isolates, the host range, and the sensitivity to common fungicides, and test the effectiveness of field control for controlling A. alternata in blackcurrants in China, and potentially elsewhere. METHODS AND RESULTS: In 2020 and 2021, an uncommon leaf spot on blackcurrants was observed in Harbin (125°42'-130°10'E, 44°04'-46°40'N), Heilongjiang Province, China...

Physicochemical properties and morphological features of pectin in high-pressure-processing (JHPP) and thermal-processing (JTP) treated cloudy hawthorn juice were investigated based on acid heating extraction. Pectin from hawthorn juice was identified as low methoxy pectin (41.77%), which was significantly reduced to 34.56%-39.51% from JHPP, while pectin esterification degree (DE) from JTP increased to 45.58%, which can also be confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. In comparison to control, pectin linearity of JHPP and JTP significantly decreased with more highly branched-chains...

Using commonly used statistical parameters in ethnopharmacology, we identified the core drug combination of the hypolipidemic formulae, thereby exploring the strategy by which the Taiwanese people select hypolipidemic drugs. Hawthorn ( Crataegus pinnatifida ) fruit has a long history of use as traditional Chinese medicine and is shown to have many health benefits including antioxidant and anti-aging. In this study, the anti-aging mechanism of hawthorn fruit extract (HFE) is predicted by network pharmacology and further verified in H2 O2 -induced PC12 cells and Caenorhabditis elegans . Network pharmacology predicted that the antiaging mechanism of HFE is mainly involved in phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K)/AKT and the insulin/insulin-like growth factor-1 (IIS) signaling pathway...

The enantiomers were separated using chiral column and elucidated through various spectroscopic methods and quantum chemical ECD calculations. The tyrosinase inhibitory activity of enantiomers was tested in vitro. Among them, enantiomers 1a/1b displayed moderate tyrosinase inhibitory activities. The interaction patterns were further studied by molecular docking, and the results indicated compounds 1a/1b may bind in the active site near the copper atom and interacted with the hydrophobic areas in the active pocket...
