Motivated by recent reports of H_{3}LiIr_{2}O_{6} as a spin-orbital-entangled quantum liquid, we investigate via a combination of density functional theory and nonperturbative exact diagonalization the microscopic nature of its magnetic interactions. We find that while the interlayer O─H─O bond geometry strongly affects the local magnetic couplings, these bonds are likely to remain symmetrical due to large zero-point fluctuations of the H positions. In this case, the estimated magnetic model lies close to the classical tricritical point between ferromagnetic, zigzag, and incommensurate spiral orders, what may contribute to the lack of magnetic ordering...

We report on artificial exchange bias created in a continuous epitaxial FePt3 film by introducing chemical disorder using a He+ beam, which features tailorable exchange bias strength through post-irradiation annealing. The Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DM) interaction in magnetic models is the result of a combination of superexchange and spin-orbital coupling, and it can give rise to rich phase-transition behavior. In this paper, we study ferromagnetic XY models with the DM interaction on two-dimensional L×L square lattices using a hybrid Monte Carlo algorithm. To match the incommensurability between the resultant spin structure and the lattice due to the DM interaction, a fluctuating boundary condition is adopted. A CoII coordination polymer built from a mixed azide and zwitterionic pyridinium ions and its temperature-dependent magnetic properties are described. Synthesis, thermodynamic properties, and microscopic magnetic model of ilinskite-type KCu5 O2 (SeO3 )2 Cl3 built by corner-sharing Cu4 tetrahedra are reported, and relevant magnetostructural correlations are discussed. Quasi-one-dimensional magnetic behavior with the short-range order around 50 K is rationalized in terms of weakly coupled spin ladders (tubes) having a complex topology formed upon fragmentation of the tetrahedral network.
