IMPORTANCE: Given a gradient relationship between fecal hemoglobin (f-Hb) concentration and colorectal neoplasia demonstrated previously, using f-Hb-guided interscreening interval has increasingly gained attention in population-based fecal immunological test (FIT), but it is very rare to address how to implement such a precision strategy and whether it can economize the use of FIT and colonoscopy. OBJECTIVE: To demonstrate the applicability of personalized colorectal cancer (CRC) screening with f-Hb-guided screening intervals to reduce the number of FITs and colonoscopy with as equivalent efficacy as universal biennial screening equivalent efficacy as universal biennial screening...

Signal transducers and activators of transcription (STAT) proteins regulate mammary development. Here we investigate the expression of phosphorylated STAT3 (pSTAT3) in the mouse and cow around the day of birth. We present localised colocation analysis, applicable to other mammary studies requiring identification of spatially congregated events. We demonstrate that pSTAT3-positive events are multifocally clustered in a non-random and statistically significant fashion. Arginase-1 expressing cells, consistent with macrophages, exhibit distinct clustering within the periparturient mammary gland...

A 7-y-old, castrated male, leucistic sugar glider ( Petaurus breviceps ) was presented because of a progressive history of lethargy, ataxia, diarrhea, and anorexia. Abdominal ultrasound revealed fluid in the abdomen and an infiltrative mass in the liver. Due to a poor prognosis, euthanasia was performed. Postmortem examination revealed a focally extensive, infiltrative, off-white, firm mass in the liver with adhesion to the omentum, mesentery, gastric serosa, and diaphragm. The remaining hepatic parenchyma was diffusely yellow...

INTRODUCTION: Hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (HSCC) is one of the malignant tumors with the worst prognosis in head and neck cancers. The transformation from normal tissue through low-grade and high-grade intraepithelial neoplasia to cancerous tissue in HSCC is typically viewed as a progressive pathological sequence typical of tumorigenesis. Nonetheless, the alterations in diverse cell clusters within the tissue microenvironment (TME) throughout tumorigenesis and their impact on the development of HSCC are yet to be fully understood...

INTRODUCTION: High-risk human papillomaviruses (HR-HPVs) are known to contribute to cervical cancer (CC), but the role of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) in this process remains unclear, despite EBV's widespread detection in premalignant and malignant cervical tissues. METHODS: In this cross-sectional study of 258 cervical samples, including both formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) and fresh cervical tissues, the presence and viral load of HR-HPVs (HPV-16 and HPV-18) and EBV were evaluated in Iranian women with cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN), squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), and a cervicitis control group using real-time PCR...

OBJECTIVE: To assess the risk of endometrial carcinoma following a diagnosis of atypical hyperplasia/endometrioid intraepithelial neoplasia by endometrial biopsy, stratified based on integrated histological parameters. METHODS: All women with atypical hyperplasia/endometrioid intraepithelial neoplasia undergoing hysterectomy within 1 year of diagnosis without progestin treatment were included. Patients were subdivided into three study groups, based on two criteria: (a) grade of nuclear atypia and (b) foci (<2 mm) of confluent glands with no intervening stroma: low-grade, high-grade, and confluent glands...

Carney complex is a rare autosomal dominant familiar multiple neoplasia syndrome combined with cardiocutaneous manifestations. Our report describes a Carney complex case with bilateral myxoid fibroadenomas that led to a bilateral mastectomy. An 18-year-old female patient presented at our clinic with complaints of multiple palpable lumps in her breasts bilaterally. On physical examination the patient had also multiple pigmented lentiginous lesions on her face, body and her sclerae, blue nevi on her trunk and upper extremities and a round moon-shaped face...

In the age of telehealth medicine, an individual's facial features may provide the only physical clues signaling the presence of a heritable cancer predisposition syndrome. These syndromes include APC -associated polyposis, Birt-Hogg-Dubé syndrome, CYLD cutaneous syndrome, hereditary leiomyomatosis and renal cell cancer, multiple endocrine neoplasia, neurofibromatosis type 1, Peutz-Jeghers syndrome, PTEN hamartoma tumor syndrome, and tuberous sclerosis complex 1 and 2, among others. Correctly identifying characteristic features is important for genetic and nongenetic specialists as early detection can enable prompt intervention, improving patient outcomes...

Embryonic-type neuroectodermal elements are often intimately mixed with primitive endodermal-type glands, like those of yolk sac tumors, in germ cell neoplasia in situ (GCNIS)-derived germ cell tumors of the testis. Because the primitive glands mimic tubules or rosettes of embryonic-type neuroectodermal elements, these embryonic-type neuroectodermal/glandular complexes may be misinterpreted as pure lesions of embryonic-type neuroectodermal elements, which, if of sufficient size, may lead to a diagnosis of embryonic-type neuroectodermal tumor, despite that the criteria of the World Health Organization for a "somatic-type malignancy" are not met...

METHODS: The disease progressed despite total thyroidectomy and multiple surgical interventions for cervical lymph node recurrences, leading to distant metastases in the fifth year after the initial diagnosis...

The objectives of this retrospective descriptive cross-sectional, observer agreement, method comparison study were to assess the reliability of CT in correctly determining the hepatic division and lobar site of origin of feline primary nonhematopoietic hepatic masses, compared with surgically confirmed locations...

PURPOSE: To explore the role of ultraviolet radiation (UVR) in the occurrence and development of various ocular malignancies. METHODS: In this article, we retrieved ocular malignancy data from the Global Cancer Observatory (GCO) and performed correlation analysis with the global UV index and sunshine duration. We searched for associated studies using the following databases: Embase, Pubmed, Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar. We conducted the literature by searching the Mesh terms denoting an exposure of interest ("UV radiation", "ultraviolet rays", and "ocular malignancies", All studies included are published until December 30, 2023 without language restrictions...

BACKGROUND/AIM: Ewing sarcoma is an aggressive mesenchymal malignancy commonly affecting children and young adolescents. The molecular basis of this neoplasia is well reported with the formation of the EWSR1/FLI1 fusion gene being the most common genetic finding. However, this fusion gene has not been targeted therapeutically nor is being used as a prognostic marker. Its relevance regarding the molecular steps leading to Ewing sarcoma genesis are yet to be defined. The generation of the oncogenic EWSR1/FLI1 fusion gene, can be attributed to the simultaneous introduction of two DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs)...

Multiple endocrine neoplasia (MEN) 2B syndrome is a rare autosomal dominant hereditary condition of neuroendocrine origin characterized by pheochromocytoma, marfanoid habitus, and mucocutaneous neuromas. Multiple mucosal neuromas on the tongue, lips, cheeks, and inner eyelids are often appeared as the earliest signs in most of the undiagnosed cases. Early diagnoses, recognition of phenotype, adequate surgery, and appropriate genetic counseling are very much essential as patients often develop medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) and pheochromocytoma...
