The primary objective of this study is to record the clinical outcomes of autologous conditioned plasma (ACP) for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis (OA) based on published literature. Multiple databases (PubMed, Embase, Web of Science and Scopus) were searched using terms for "knee OA" and the intervention "ACP" for articles published in English to January 4, 2024. All clinical studies using ACP for knee OA were included. Studies not utilizing ACP alone, i.e. used as an adjunct with other modalities or not focusing on the management of knee OA, were excluded...

INTRODUCTION: population aging is a worldwide demographic phenomenon of the last thirty years. This increase in life expectancy leads to an increase in the incidence of degenerative diseases, mainly gonarthrosis. According to World Health Organization (WHO) estimates, 10% of the population over 60 years of age suffers from osteoarthrosis, and 40% of the population over 70 years of age suffers from gonarthrosis, figures that could increase in the next decade. Approximately 80% of people over 65 years of age present radiographic changes with evidence of gonarthrosis, being 10-25% of the reason for medical visits at the first level of care...

Objective  The present study aimed to compare the effects of intraarticular infiltration of platelet-rich plasma with those of hyaluronic acid infiltration in the treatment of patients with primary knee osteoarthritis. Methods  A randomized clinical trial was conducted with 29 patients who received an intraarticular infiltration with hyaluronic acid (control group) or platelet-rich plasma. Clinical outcomes were assessed using the visual analog scale for pain and the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Arthritis Index (WOMAC) questionnaire before and after the intervention...

BACKGROUND: The success of platelet rich plasma (PRP) applications in conservative treatment of moderate gonarthrosis has increased over time. Two different PRP formulations that buffy coat (Leukocyte rich PRP: LR-PRP) and plasma-based (Leukocyte poor PRP: LP-PRP) are obtained by different centrifugation methods. This prospective randomized trial was whether LP-PRP will be more effective combination for moderate gonarthrosis when compared to LR-PRP or HA. METHODS: A total 90 patients suffering from moderate knee osteoarthritis were enrolled...

BACKGROUND: In this study, we evaluated whether platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is superior to hyaluronic acid (HA) in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis. METHODS: The Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, PubMed, and Embase databases were searched for English-language, human in vivo studies on the treatment of symptomatic knee osteoarthritis with intra-articular PRP compared with HA. The following keywords were used for the search: "platelet-rich plasma," "PRP," "platelet-rich fibrin," "PRF," "platelet," "plasma," "arthritis," "osteoarthritis," "gonarthrosis," and "degeneration...

The present study aimed to compare short-term clinical outcomes between intraarticular platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and hyaluronic acid (HA) treatments in early-stage gonarthrosis patients. Data of gonarthrosis patients, who were stage 1 or stage 2 according to Kellgren-Lawrence classification and underwent intraarticular PRP or HA treatment, were obtained retrospectively. The patients received treatment for three times at one-week intervals (intraarticular PRP or HA). They were evaluated using the Knee Society's Knee Scoring System (KSS) and the visual analog scale (VAS) scoring system before treatment and at the second and sixth months of treatment...

The aim of the study is to evaluate and to quantify the effects on the quality of life and the decrease of pain in short and middle term in patients affected of gonarthrosis and treated with a series of 3 injections of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP). Gonarthrosis is one of the most frequent causes of disability on old ages and leads to difficulties in social, relational and daily activities (1). The most common therapeutic approach depends on the stage of the disease, it can be conservative (FKT), palliative (HA injections, chondro - protector) or reconstructive (TKR)...

Regenerative medicine is the science that studies the regeneration of biological tissues obtained through use of cells, with the aid of support structures and with biomolecules such as growth factors. As regards the growth factors the PRP, or the platelet-rich plasma, obtained from a withdrawal of autologous blood, concentrating the platelets, represents a safe, economical, easy to prepare and easy to apply source of growth factors. Numerous growth factors are in fact within the platelets and in particular a large number of them have a specific activity on neo-proliferation, on cartilage regeneration and in particular also an antiapoptotic effect on chondroblasts: - The PDGF which regulates the secretion and synthesis of collagen;- The EGF that causes cellular proliferation, endothelial chemotaxis and angiogenesis;- The VEGF that increases angiogenesis and vascular permeability;- The TGF-beta that stimulates the proliferation of undifferentiated MSC, stimulates chemotaxis of endothelial cells and angiogenesis;- The bFGF that promotes the growth and differentiation of chondrocytes and osteoblasts stimulates mitogenesis of mesenchymal cells, chondrocytes and osteoblasts...

BACKGROUND: Arthrosis is particularly prevalent in the knee. Infiltration treatment for gonarthrosis is among the most widely used techniques in orthopaedic practice. PURPOSE: To compare the clinical response of hyaluronic acid (HA) and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment in 2 groups of patients affected by gonarthrosis. STUDY DESIGN: Randomized controlled trial; Level of evidence, 1. METHODS: A total of 120 patients affected by clinically and radiographically documented gonarthrosis were included in this study...
