BACKGROUND: The discovery of the superbug mcr-1-positive Escherichia coli (MCRPEC) has drew greet attention. Swine-origin multi-drug resistant MCRPEC has been a potential threat to public health and safety. However, there were few detailed studies have been reported on swine MCRPEC in Guangxi, South China. RESULTS: In this study, thirty-three MCRPEC strains were detected from 142 E. coli strains from 116 samples in Guangxi in 2018. Which could be classified into eight unique STs and a total of six incompatibility plasmid groups (IncFI, IncHI1, IncY, IncN, IncI1 and IncX1)...

OBJECTIVE: To establish the adriamycin(ADR)-resistant ALL cell lines and to investigate their drug-resistan mechanisms. METHODS: The drug-resistant cell lines SUP-B15/ADR and RS4;11/ADR were derived by exposing the parental cells [SUP-B15(Ph+ ) and RS4;11(Ph- )] to the ascending concentrations of ADR. The cell viability was detected by CCK-8 method. The expression of P-gp was examined by Western blot, and RT-qPCR was performed to detect the expression of MDR1. RESULTS: The drug-resistant cell lines SUP-B15/ADR and RS4;11/ADR were successfully established, their resistance indexes were 14...

BACKGROUND: Previous research connects p120-catenin (p120ctn) with epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) signaling pathways, which presents a potential role for p120ctn in EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitor (EGFR-TKIs) resistance. However, a direct correlation between the expression pattern of p120ctn in solid tumors and the therapeutic effect of EGFR-TKIs has not yet been demonstrated. METHODS AND RESULTS: In this study, the expression pattern of p120ctn was examined in patients with the EGFR gene mutation in lung adenocarcinoma, and p120ctn was found to have different patterns of expression even in the same mutation type...

BACKGROUND: Recent developments in neuroimaging have advanced the understanding of biological mechanisms underlying schizophrenia. However, neuroimaging correlates of treatment-resistant schizophrenia (TRS) and superior effects of clozapine on TRS remain unclear. METHODS: Systematic search was performed to identify neuroimaging characteristics unique to TRS and ultra-resistant schizophrenia (i.e. clozapine-resistant [URS]), and clozapine's efficacy in TRS using Embase, Medline, and PsychInfo...

BACKGROUND: The emergence of resistance to anti-tuberculosis drugs in general and Multi Drug Resistan Tuberculosis (MDR-TB) in particular, has become a significant public health problem and an obstacle to effective TB control. Baseline and adequate information on epidemiological factors and their interaction are prerequisites for its effective control. OBJECTIVES: To study socio-demographic profile, housing environment, health-seeking behaviour, present and past history regarding treatment of tuberculosis, drug resistance pattern and the preventive practice adopted by the patients...

OBJECTIVE: To explore the effect of Jiangtang Xiaozhi capsule (JXC) on morphological changes of islets and liver at rat model of type 2 diabetic mellitus and provide the experimental basis for the clinical therapy of type 2 diabetic mellitus. METHOD: Wister rats were fed on a diet enriched in fat and glucose to induce insulin resistan, the rats were injected intrapertoneally with a low-dose streptozotocin (STZ) twice (25 mg x kg(-1)) to induce hyperglycemia, so the successful rat model of type 2 diabetes were established...

BACKGROUND: Methicillin resistant strains of Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) are an important cause of nosocomial infections. AIM: To determine the genotypes of MRSA strains. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Fifty five strains of MRSA, isolated from patients hospitalized in Hospital Base Valdivia, were studied. The phenotype was determined through MicroScan in all strains and by minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) in 41. The genotype of the strains was analyzed by a duplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) of the mecA gene, amplifying eight hypervariable DNA regions associated to such gene...

The susceptibility to penicillin was tested in 293 strains of S. aureus, 162 strains of H. influenzae, 60 strains of M. catarrhalis and 77 strains of S. pneumoniae, isolated from persons suffering from upper respiratory tract infections. Penicillin susceptibility testing has been performed by the disc diffusion technique. Beta-lactamase production in the penicillin-resistant strains of H. influenzae, M. catarrhalis and S. aureus was detected with nitrocefin impregnated disc. In beta-lactamase positive strains, the susceptibility to amoxacillin/clavulanic acid (AMC) was determined...

The pharmacological activity of hematoporphyrin has been studied on two experimental models which are able to monitor the motor coordination in the rat, namely the natatory exhaustion and the Rota-Rod tests. A dose related effect of hematoporphyrin in increasing resistane to motor fatigue has been observed in the Rota-Rod between 2-8 mg/kg i.p. Higher doses of hematoporphyrin seem to be less effective (difasic effect). In both tests hematoporphyrin was able to potentiate the stimulating effect of d-amphetamine (6 mg/kg s...
