BACKGROUND: The first 1000 days of life, encompassing pregnancy and the first 2 years after birth, represent a critical period for human health development. Despite this significance, there has been limited research into the associations between mixed exposure to air pollutants during this period and the development of asthma/wheezing in children. Furthermore, the finer sensitivity window of exposure during this crucial developmental phase remains unclear. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to assess the relationships between prenatal and postnatal exposures to various ambient air pollutants (particulate matter 2...

Ceramic materials with high strength and chemical inertness are widely used as engineering materials. However, the brittle nature limits their applications as fracture occurs before the onset of plastic yielding. There has been limited success despite extensive efforts to enhance the deformability of ceramics. Here we report a method for enhancing the room temperature plastic deformability of ceramics by artificially introducing abundant defects into the materials via preloading at elevated temperatures. After the preloading treatment, single crystal (SC) TiO2 exhibited a substantial increase in deformability, achieving 10% strain at room temperature...

The meta-phenylenediamine polymer, when hyper-cross-linked, exhibits a minimal fluorescence intensity. However, the introduction of silver ions induces a significant increase in intensity, attributed to the plasmonic effect. This heightened intensity is selectively increased more upon the addition of thiosulfate ions. Capitalizing on this property, a fluorescence probe was developed. The correlation between fluorescence intensity reduction and S2 O3 2- concentration follows a linear and consistent pattern. The precursor's response to diverse anions such as SO4 2- , CO3 2- , HPO4 2- , Cr2 O7 2- , F- , Cl- , Br- , I- , H2 PO4 - , CH3 COO- , NO3 - , ClO- , and HCO3 - was also examined...

Ozone (O3 ) profiles are crucial for comprehending the intricate interplay among O3 sources, sinks, and transport. However, conventional O3 monitoring approaches often suffer from limitations such as low spatiotemporal resolution, high cost, and cumbersome procedures. Here, we propose a novel approach that combines multiaxis differential optical absorption spectroscopy (MAX-DOAS) and machine learning (ML) technology. This approach allows the retrieval of O3 profiles with exceptionally high temporal resolution at the minute level and vertical resolution reaching the hundred-meter scale...

A typical particulate matter pollution process occurred from October 9 to 17,2018,in Langfang, and 99 types of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) were monitored by using ZF-KU-1007. The characteristics of VOCs,formation potential of secondary organic aerosol (SOA),and source of VOCs were systematically analyzed. The results showed that the maximum concentration of PM2.5 was 198 μg·m-3 during the pollution process and was 2.64 times the National Ambient Air Quality Standard (GB 3095-2012). The average concentration of VOCs was 56...

The plants were treated with K2 O3 Si at concentrations of 0, 1, 2, and 3 mM and cultivated under different salt stress conditions (0, 80, 160, and 240 mM NaCl).
