The mixing of cotton seeds of different cultivars and qualities can lead to differences in growth conditions and make field management difficult. In particular, except for yield loss, it can also lead to inconsistent cotton quality and poor textile product quality, causing huge economic losses to farmers and the cotton processing industry. However, traditional cultivar identification methods for cotton seeds are time-consuming, labor-intensive, and cumbersome, which cannot meet the needs of modern agriculture and modern cotton processing industry...

The rational application of fertilizers is crucial for achieving high crop yields and ensuring global food security. The use of biopolymers for slow-release fertilizers (SRFs) development has emerged as a game-changer and environmentally sustainable pathway to enhance crop yields by optimizing plant growth phases. Herein, with a renewed focus on circular bioeconomy, a novel functionalized lignin-based coating material (FLGe) was developed for the sustained release of nutrients. This innovative approach involved the extraction and sustainable functionalization of lignin through a solvent-free esterification reaction with humic acid─an organic compound widely recognized for its biostimulant properties in agriculture...

Tumor evolution is driven by genetic variation; however, it is the tumor microenvironment (TME) that provides the selective pressure contributing to evolution in cancer. Despite high histopathological heterogeneity within glioblastoma (GBM), the most aggressive brain tumor, the interactions between the genetically distinct GBM cells and the surrounding TME are not fully understood. To address this, we analyzed matched primary and recurrent GBM archival tumor tissues with imaging-based techniques aimed to simultaneously evaluate tumor tissues for presence of hypoxic, angiogenic, and inflammatory niches, extracellular matrix organization, TERT promoter mutational status, and several oncogenic amplifications on the same slide and location...

Directly integrating ceramic vapor chambers into the insulating substrate of semiconductor power devices is an effective approach to solve the problem of heat dissipation. Microgrooves that could be machined directly on the shell plate without contact thermal resistance and mechanical dislocation offer exciting opportunities to achieve high-performance ceramic vapor chambers. In this study, a bioinspired hierarchical microgroove wick (BHMW) containing low ribs via one-step nanosecond pulsed laser processing was developed, as inspired by the Sarracenia trichome...

We explore the relationship among the magnetic ordering in real space, the resulting spin texture on the Fermi surface, and the related superconducting gap structure in noncollinear antiferromagnetic metals without spin-orbit coupling. Via a perturbative approach, we show that noncollinear magnetic ordering in a metal can generate momentum-dependent spin texture on its Fermi surface, even in the absence of spin-orbit coupling, if the metal has more than three sublattices in its magnetic unit cell. Thus, our theory naturally extends the idea of altermagnetism to noncollinear spin structures...

Chiral crystals and molecules were recently predicted to form an intriguing platform for unconventional orbital physics. Here, we report the observation of chirality-driven orbital textures in the bulk electronic structure of CoSi, a prototype member of the cubic B20 family of chiral crystals. Using circular dichroism in soft x-ray angle-resolved photoemission, we demonstrate the formation of a bulk orbital-angular-momentum texture and monopolelike orbital-momentum locking that depends on crystal handedness...

BACKGROUND: High moisture meat analog (HMMA) products processed using extrusion have become increasingly popular in the last few years. Because the formation of disulfide bonds is believed to play a critical role in the texturization mechanism, this study aimed to understand how chemical compounds capable of reducing disulfide bonds, specifically cysteine, sodium metabisulfite, and glutathione, affect the texture and the chemical interactions between the proteins. METHOD: Wheat protein blended with cysteine, sodium metabisulfite, or glutathione at levels of 0, 0...

In the present research, microstructure, texture, roughness, hardness, and electrochemical behavior of AISI 316L austenitic stainless steel before and after shot peening were studied to elucidate the effect of conventional and severe shot peening (CSP and SSP) processes. After the shot peening, the fraction of strain-induced martensite (SIM) and mechanical twins (MTs) in the sub-surface layer was increased. The fraction of SIM and MTs in the SSP sample was higher than in the CSP sample. The XRD patterns indicated that the SSP sample had a higher peak broadening compared to the CSP sample...

The world has been battling climate change which is caused by an excessive amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Carbon sequestration in geological sinks was identified as one of the major methods to curb and reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The carbon dioxide stored in the geological formations must not escape back into the atmosphere. Characterisation of potential reservoirs for geological sequestration is pertinent for injectivity, capacity, and most importantly containment of carbon dioxide...

This study aimed to extract sturgeon oil (SO) from the sturgeon head and apply it to sturgeon meat to produce surimi gel. The effects of SO and its Pickering emulsion on the qualities of surimi gel were investigated. The results demonstrated that Pickering emulsions improved the quality deterioration of the gel caused by the direct addition of SO, especially the soy isolate protein (SPI) emulsion and the pea isolate protein (PPI) emulsion. Pickering emulsions contributed to a more uniform and compact network structure of the gel, improved the texture properties, enhanced the freeze-thaw stability, and reduced lipid oxidation...

Polygonatum kingianum is a Chinese herbal medicine that belongs to the genus Polygonatum of the family Liliaceae.
