Chest compressions, used in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), cause rib and sternum fractures in around 79% and 54% of patients, respectively. Spinal fractures resulting from CPR are far rarer. We present the case of a 70-year-old man who underwent mechanical CPR after choking whilst eating. The patient received a cerebral and thoracic CT scan upon arrival to the hospital. The cerebral scan was normal, but the chest CT scan revealed signs of ankylosing spondylitis and an unstable Chance fracture of the 12th thoracic vertebra...

Inês Da Mata, António Proença Caetano
Macrodactyly, a often congenital anomaly, entails abnormal enlargement of digits, predominantly affecting hands or feet, either in isolation or as part of a syndromic condition. The authors present a case of Macrodystrophia Lipomatosa (ML), a form of macrodactyly, in a 62-year-old patient, emphasizing macrodactyly manifestations through clinical and radiological assessments. Additionally, the authors explore anatomical aspects related to nerve distribution in affected digits, providing a comprehensive understanding of ML...

A 57-year-old woman presented with right hip pain. The initial diagnosis was an inflammatory tendinopathy of the gluteus medius without signs of rupture, and the patient underwent an ultrasound-guided corticosteroid injection. However, 1 month later, she presented with a painful swelling on the anterior-external aspect of the right hip/thigh, with a clinical suspicion of malignancy. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan and ultrasound confirmed the diagnosis of hypertrophy of the tensor fascia lata (TFL) muscle ...

Sam Verrept, Mathieu Lefere, Yves De Bruecker
Large gastric hernias are common and usually cause minor symptoms. Rarely, complete intrathoracic herniation of the stomach is complicated by strangulation. The underlying mechanism can be gastric volvulus or the less recognized phenomenon of gastric fundus redescent. We describe a case where this rare but potentially lethal complication of gastric herniation is present. Additionally, we show that gastric pneumatosis, a sign associated with ischemia, can be initially visualized on a plain chest radiograph in this setting...

Taehoon Lim, Jongsoo Park, Heejung Kwon
Pulmonary glandular papilloma is a rare benign neoplasm that has not been studied extensively. This neoplasm presents as a solid nodule, consolidation, or mass, with or without atelectasis, and assessing the correlation between these findings and the risk of malignancy is challenging. A 60-year-old woman presented a solitary pulmonary nodule on screening chest radiography and chest computed tomography (CT). During the subsequent 2-year follow-up, CT showed a progressive increase in nodule size and an air bronchogram, suggesting malignancy...

Post-laparoscopic cholecystectomy bile duct injuries, especially involving Luschka's duct, are concerning. Biliary tree anomalies and the efficacy of intravenous administration of Gd-EOB-DTPA-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in detecting bile leakage are reported based on a case. Teaching Point: Hepatobiliary-specific MRI-contrast agents prove valuable for noninvasive assessment of bile leakage after cholecystectomy.
