OBJECTIVE: To study which factors affect perinatal outcomes in intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) cycles. METHODS: Data was obtained from 402 live births born to 307 patients undergoing ICSI cycles in a private university-affiliated IVF center between Jan/2014 and Dec/2015. The influences of the cycles' characteristics on the number of gestational weeks to livebirth (GW), baby birth weight (BW), and baby birth length (BL) were evaluated by linear regression models, adjusted for maternal age and body mass index, number of transferred embryos, number of gestational sacs, and number of born infants...

Bowel endometriosis is a rare condition that may cause catastrophic complications necessitating immediate medical attention. This report describes the case of a patient diagnosed with endometriosis-induced bowel perforation. Albeit rare, bowel perforations caused by endometriosis should be considered in the differential diagnosis of women of reproductive age with abdominal pain.

BACKGROUND: Reductions in sperm quality due to free radical formation during cancer chemotherapy are well documented, hence the need for an adjunct antioxidant treatment during chemotherapy. This study was designed to investigate the effects of N-acetylcysteine on sperm quality following cyclophosphamide exposure in male Wistar rats. METHODS: wenty male Wistar rats weighing 150-170g were randomly assigned into 4 groups of five rats each, and were orally administered distilled water (Control), Cyclophosphamide (6mg/kg), N-acetylcysteine (100mg/kg) or Cyclophosphamide + N-acetylcysteine for 21 days...

We describe a case of a 37-year-old female, indicated for in vitro fertilisation. She developed skin rash on her trunk and limbs, during the treatment. RT-PCR results were positive in her blood and negative in her husband's blood and semen. Oocyte aspiration was performed, retrieving 7 oocytes, follicular fluid, and cumulus cells. RT-PCR results for the follicular fluid and cumulus cells were negative for ZIKV, and positive for only 2 oocytes. This is the first report in the literature analysing ZIKV in the follicular fluid, cumulus cells, and oocytes, and will contribute to the understanding of ZIKV infection and transmission...

OBJECTIVE: To determine if Day 7 blastocysts merit biopsy, vitrification and transfer consideration by contrasting their aneuploidy and implantation rates to Day 5 and 6 blastocysts. METHODS: A total of 1,925 blastocysts were biopsied from 402 PGT-A cycles over a 12 to 16 month interval. All embryos were cultured under tri-gas, humidified conditions (37ºC) for up to 7 days (168 hours post-insemination). Biopsied blastocysts were vitrified and trophectoderm samples analyzed using NextGen sequencing...

OBJECTIVE: To describe our fertility preservation program focusing on the number of oocytes vitrified by age. METHODS: From January 2015 to December 2016, 686 oocyte vitrification cycles were performed in our units for the social fertility preservation program. In total, 288 were donors who donated their oocytes for our oocyte-banking program, and 398 were patients who underwent elective fertility preservation. RESULTS: The mean numbers of COCs retrieved and vitrified oocytes were similar among the donor cycles (women under 30 years)...

OBJECTIVE: In vitro maturation has been shown to influence gene expression in oocytes, but a common shortcoming in reports on the matter has been the use of different donors in each experimental group thus disregarding donor effects. This study aimed to investigate the abundance of mRNA in oocytes matured in vivo and in vitro obtained from the same group of donors. METHODS: A bovine model was used to assess the relative abundance of specific transcripts in in vitro-matured (IN VITRO-OPU) and in vivo -matured (IN VIVO-OPU) oocytes collected from the same donors by transvaginal ovum pick-up (OPU)...

INTRODUCTION: More than one million fertilization cycles are performed every year. The incidence of serious complications associated with transvaginal oocyte pick-up is low, but the procedure is not risk-free. Risks are inherent to procedures in which thin needles and sharp instruments are introduced into the vaginal wall and ovarian capsule to access the ovaries. CASE DESCRIPTION: A 45-year-old patient reported urinary discomfort and difficulty urinating after her second cycle, 12 hours after oocyte pick-up...

Argentina, like many other countries in the region, faces the dilemma of what to do with the increasing accumulation of frozen embryos, which are often abandoned. This report aims to address the issue of abandoned frozen embryos, following the main concerns: 1) when is an embryo considered abandoned, according to regulatory documents; 2) how can the number of cryopreserved abandoned embryos be decreased; and 3) what are the current available options for discarding these abandoned embryos. Issues concerning the fate of abandoned embryos call for a revision of the technical aspects, as well as the symbolic aspects associated with the embryos and their options for discarding...

OBJECTIVE: A variety of studies randomizing women/cycles or oocytes/embryos has been carried out to compare different culture media for culturing embryos up to cleavage or blastocyst stages showing controversial results. A recent systematic review suggested that data in the literature are insufficient to conclude the best culture medium for embryo quality, pregnancy and implantation. The objective of this study was to evaluate whether there is any difference between two commercial culture media regarding clinical outcomes after IMSI cycles...

Some of the common side effects of the injectable gonadotropins, used during fertility treatments, are pain at the injection site, skin erythema, muscle pain, and rarely vasovagal reflex. These side effects cause inconvenience and lower patient's tolerance for fertility treatments. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of an FDA-approved dose of nasal human menopausal gonadotropins (Menopur) in women undergoing fertility treatment. Healthy regularly cycling reproductive-aged women (n=4) with infertility were enrolled...
