INTRODUCTION: Advances in healthcare have improved outcomes for pediatric patients with congenital neuro-urological conditions, highlighting the need for an effective transition from pediatric to adult care. This study investigates Canada's transitional urologic care within its single-payer healthcare system, focusing on the active members of Pediatric Urologists of Canada's (PUC) practices, perceptions, and attitudes towards transitional urologic care. METHODS: A survey was distributed to 35 Pediatric Urologists of Canada (PUC) members from July 2023 to January 2024, which collected data on transitional care practices and available Transitional Urology (TU) clinics...

Inconsistencies have existed in the literature pertaining to the usage of the terms "dorsal" and "ventral" to describe the female urethra for years. The authors designed a survey study to demonstrate this inconsistency amongst genitourinary surgeons. When asked to label the dorsal urethra, 48% of respondents correctly labeled it as "dorsal," 27% incorrectly labeled it as "ventral," and 25% elected to write-in a response. When asked to label the ventral urethra, 52% of respondents correctly labeled it as "ventral," 26% incorrectly labeled it as "dorsal," and 22% elected to write-in a response...

INTRODUCTION: We sought to determine if work relative value unit differences exist between analogous, sex-specific procedures. METHODS: Representatives from the AUA and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists independently reviewed the entire procedural code set and identified sex-specific procedures that had an analogous procedure in the opposite sex. These pairs were then evaluated and compared using current American Medical Association Relative Value Scale Update Committee methodology...

INTRODUCTION: Cigarette smoking is associated with higher-risk prostate cancer at the time of diagnosis and increased overall and prostate cancer‒specific mortality. Previous studies indicate smokers are less likely to undergo PSA screening. Herein we investigate the association between smoking and PSA screening using a nationally representative US survey. We hypothesize that smokers are less likely to undergo guideline-concordant PSA screening. METHODS: We performed a cross-sectional analysis of men aged 55 to 69 who responded to the cigarette smoking and PSA screening questions of the 2018 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System survey...

INTRODUCTION: Patient preference assessment is key to high-quality decision-making in men with prostate cancer. We aimed to determine if "phenotypes" could be identified among men with prostate cancer, with each phenotype representing a cohort with a distinct combination of preferences. We wished to learn if there was an association between phenotype and treatment selection. METHODS: A prospective cohort of men with prostate cancer received a pre-visit decision aid...

INTRODUCTION: Intravesical sequential doublet chemotherapy (SDC) is being used increasingly as a rescue treatment for nonmuscle-invasive bladder cancer failing bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG), as single-agent chemotherapies are less effective, especially for carcinoma in situ. Considering the current BCG shortage, intravesical SDC also provides an efficacious alternative to BCG. Our aim is to detail the implementation to assist with establishing an efficient and practical intravesical SDC clinic for urologic practice...

INTRODUCTION: Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) affects countless women worldwide. Given ChatGPT's rising ubiquity, patients may turn to the platform for SUI advice. Our objective was to evaluate the quality of clinical information about SUI from the ChatGPT platform. METHODS: The most-asked patient questions regarding SUI were derived from patient materials from societal websites and forums, and queried using ChatGPT 3.5. The responses from ChatGPT were compiled into a survey and disseminated to 3 AUA guideline committee members who developed the Surgical Management of Female SUI guidelines...

INTRODUCTION: A growing number of Americans search online for health information related to urologic oncologic care each year. The American Medical Association recommends that medical information be written at a maximum sixth-grade level in order to be comprehensible by the majority of patients. As such, it is important to assess the quality and readability of online patient education material that patients are being exposed to. METHODS: A Google search was performed using the terms "testicular cancer," "prostate cancer," "kidney cancer," and "bladder cancer," and the top 30 results for each were reviewed...

INTRODUCTION: Water vapor thermal therapy (WVTT) is a minimally invasive therapy designed to treat lower urinary tract symptoms associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia. Long-term outcomes with large (>80 cc) and small (<30 cc) prostate volumes (PVs) remain limited. We report 48-month outcomes for a multiethnic cohort of WVTT-treated men, stratified by PV. METHODS: In this single-center retrospective study, patients were stratified by PV: < 30 cc, 30 to 80 cc, or > 80 cc...

INTRODUCTION: Patient perceptions of physician reimbursement commonly differ from actual reimbursement. This study aims to improve health care cost transparency and trust between patients, physicians, and the health care system by evaluating patient perceptions of Medicare reimbursement for artificial urinary sphincter (AUS) placement. METHODS: We identified patients who underwent AUS placement at a single institution from 2014 to 2023. After obtaining informed consent, we administered a telephone survey to ask patients about their perceptions of Medicare reimbursement for AUS surgery and the amount they felt the physician should be compensated...

INTRODUCTION: We aimed to investigate the differences in perioperative outcomes, especially ureteroenteric strictures, between patients who underwent a stented ureteroenteric anastomosis at the time of robot-assisted radical cystectomy (RARC) and ileal conduit vs those who did not. METHODS: A retrospective review of our RARC database was performed (2009-2023). Patients were divided into those who received stented ureteroenteric anastomosis vs those who did not. Propensity score matching was performed in the ratio of 3 (stented ureteroenteric anastomosis) to 1 (stent-free) in terms of age, gender, BMI, race, American Society of Anesthesiologists score, neoadjuvant chemotherapy, Charlson Comorbidity Index, prior radiation therapy, previous abdominal surgery history, clinical T3/clinical T4 stage, preoperative metastasis, and preoperative hydronephrosis...
