Malignant melanoma is an aggressive neoplasm primarily involving the skin. They may arise de novo or from a premalignant melanocytic lesion. Melanomas are primarily known to occur in adults. Pediatric melanomas (PM) are rare and predominantly occur de novo following ultraviolet deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) damage. They may also be associated with the presence of congenital melanocytic nevi. We report a rare case of a 6-year-old child with multiple melanocytic nevi subsequently diagnosed with melanoma of the back and metastatic disease...

Ticks are blood-sucking arthropod ectoparasites of vertebrates, which are vectors of many diseases. They cause varied skin manifestations, which occur either due to the attachment of the tick to the host or due to the infections it spreads. Dermoscopy serves as a precise diagnostic tool for tick bites and also helps in ensuring complete removal of the tick. Prompt removal and identification of the tick, along with appropriate antibiotic therapy, are important aspects of the management of this condition. Herein, we present a case series of nine patients with tick bites, by ticks of similar morphology but at different body sites and with varied predisposing factors...

Progestogen hypersensitivity (PH) also known as autoimmune progesterone dermatitis is a rare clinical entity that may be triggered by endogenous progesterone (menstrual cycles and pregnancy) or exogenous progestin exposure (examples: contraceptive medicines, in vitro fertilization treatments). It is a poorly recognized syndrome due to its heterogeneous clinical presentation. The pathomechanism of PH is believed to be primarily IgE mediated but less commonly other immune responses may be involved. Management is usually focused on symptomatic control with medications...

Lichen planus (LP) is a chronic idiopathic immune-mediated inflammatory condition. LP is a heterogeneous disease with varied clinical presentations having different natural history, prognosis, sequelae, and outcomes. It can affect skin, hair, nails, and mucosae. Mucosal LP (including oral LP) tends to be persistent and resistant to treatment, compared to cutaneous LP. Oral LP (OLP) is broadly divided into two main categories: hyperkeratotic (usually asymptomatic) and erosive (commonly symptomatic). It can present with symptoms including odynophagia, dysphagia, dysgeusia, and sensitivity to hot spicy foods...

Filariasis caused by nematodes affects the structure and function of lymphatic vessels. Lymphedema due to lymphatic blockage and lymphadenitis is the usual mode of presentation of filariasis. However, rarely extralymphatic filariasis has been reported in uncommon sites, including skin and soft tissue. Wuchereria (W.) bancrofti is the most common nematode causing extralymphatic filariasis. We report a rare case of a 25-year-old man with live extralymphatic filarial infestation presenting as a facial subcutaneous soft-tissue swelling confirmed by ultrasonography (USG), which revealed the filarial dance sign...

Linear and whorled nevoid hypermelanosis is a rare skin pigmentation disorder, characterized by linear streaks and whorls of hyperpigmented macules along Blaschko's lines. Lesions are commonly restricted to the trunk, neck, and extremities, sparing the face, palms, soles, and mucosae. Associated with this, certain cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, neurological, and developmental anomalies have been reported in the literature. Herein, we present a rare case of linear and whorled nevoid hypermelanosis involving the face, with musculoskeletal, genital, aural, and ocular abnormalities...

BACKGROUND: Chronic pruritus poses a significant challenge to treating physicians due to multitude of underlying causes and varying treatment strategies. Several topical, systemic, and physical modalities have been tried with variable success. Prescription practices in chronic pruritus are influenced by differential knowledge and experience of physicians, patient-related factors, and resource availability. AIM: The purpose of this survey was to observe the current pattern of practice in Indian dermatologists in the management of chronic pruritus and to identify practice gaps particularly regarding the use of various systemic agents as antipruritics...

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Tranexamic acid (TXA) has recently shown promising results in the treatment of melasma. The objective of this study was to generate statistical evidence on the efficacy of TXA with different routes. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We searched studies in PubMed, Cochrane, ClinicalTrials.gov, and Scopus using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses 2020 guidelines. A change in melasma area and severity index (MASI)/modified MASI score from the baseline at the end of 8 and 12 weeks was seen...
