AIMS: To investigate the location-specific prognostic significance of plaque burden, diameter stenosis and plaque morphology. METHODS AND RESULTS: Patients without a documented cardiac history who underwent coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) for suspected coronary artery disease were included. Percentage atheroma volume (PAV), maximum diameter stenosis, and plaque morphology were assessed and classified into proximal, mid, or distal segments of the coronary tree...

AIMS: Systemic sclerosis complicated by pulmonary arterial hypertension (SSc-PAH) is a rare condition with poor prognosis. The majority of patients are categorized as intermediate risk of mortality. Cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) is well placed to reproducibly assess right heart size and function, but most patients with SSc-PAH have less overtly abnormal right ventricles than other forms of PAH. The aim of this study was to assess if exercise CMR measures of cardiac size and function could better predict outcome in patients with intermediate risk SSc-PAH compared with resting CMR...

AIMS: Men are more likely to suffer a myocardial infarction than women, but population-based studies on sex differences in imaging detected atherosclerosis are lacking. The aims were to assess sex differences in prevalence of imaging detected coronary and carotid atherosclerosis, as well as multivariable adjusted associations between sex and atherosclerosis. METHODS AND RESULTS: Participants aged 50-65, recruited from the general population to the Swedish Cardiopulmonary bioImage Study (SCAPIS), were included in this population-based cross-sectional study...

AIMS: To evaluate the individual as well as combined impact of OCT-detected vulnerability features (OCT-VFs) in the prediction of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) in non-ischemic lesions in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM). METHODS AND RESULTS: The COMBINE OCT-FFR (NCT02989740) was a prospective, double-blind, international, natural history study that included patients with DM having ≥1 lesions with a fractional flow reserve >0.80, undergoing systematic OCT assessment...

INTRODUCTION: Epicardial fat is a metabolically active adipose tissue depot situated between the myocardium and visceral pericardium that covers ∼80% of the heart surface. While epicardial fat has been associated with the development of atherosclerotic coronary artery disease (CAD), less is known about the relationship between epicardial fat and coronary vascular function. Moreover, the relations between excess epicardial fat and cardiac morphology and function remains incompletely understood...

AIMS: To characterize left atrial (LA) and left ventricular (LV) function and atrioventricular (AV) coupling in patients with moderate mixed aortic valve disease (MMAVD) against those with isolated moderate or severe aortic valve disease and controls. METHODS & RESULTS: Retrospective LA and LV peak longitudinal strain (LS) analysis were performed on 260 patients (46 MMAVD, 81 moderate aortic stenosis (AS), 50 severe AS, 48 moderate aortic regurgitation (AR), and 35 severe AR) and 66 controls...

AIMS: The pericoronary adipose tissue (PCAT) attenuation obtained by coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) has been associated with coronary inflammation and outcomes. Whether PCAT attenuation is predictive of major adverse cardiac events (MACE) during long-term follow-up is unknown. METHODS AND RESULTS: Symptomatic patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) who underwent CCTA were included, and clinical outcomes were evaluated. PCAT was measured at all lesions for all three major coronary arteries using semi-automated software...

We present the case of a 71-year-old woman with rheumatic valvular disease who underwent mitro-aortic mechanical valve replacement and tricuspid annuloplasty in 2011. She required a dual-chamber pacemaker in 2012 and developed severe tricuspid regurgitation (TR), leading to percutaneous annuloplasty with Cardioband® system in 2021.
