A misconception in the field of intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring (IONM) is that continuous, multi-nerve (four-limb), interleaved somatosensory evoked potential (SSEP) stimulation, while advantageous, is not universally utilized due to variety of misunderstandings regarding this approach to SSEP stimulation. Spinal cord stimulation is used to treat patients with severe neuropathic pain and other forms of debilitating back pain.
