OBJECTIVES: Penile prosthesis insertion is a well-established therapeutic option in refractory ischemic priapism but there is a lack of standardization regarding the timing of surgery, the type of prosthesis (malleable or inflatable), as well as the possible complications. In this study, we retrospectively compared early versus delayed penile prosthesis insertion in patients with refractory ischemic priapism. METHODS: 42 male patients who presented with refractory ischemic priapism during the period between January 2019 and January 2022 were included in this study...

OBJECTIVES: Safety of GreenLight™ laser prostatectomy (GL-LP) in patients with ongoing blood thinners has been proven. Yet, the possibility of drug manipulation makes it a less challenging situation compared to treating patients with uncorrectable bleeding tendency. Herein, we aim at evaluating the outcomes of XPS™-180 W GL-LP for treatment of BPH in patients who had uncorrectable bleeding tendency due to hepatic dysfunction. METHODS: A prospectively maintained database for all patients who underwent GL-LP for symptomatic BPH was reviewed...

OBJECTIVES: To identify cystourethrogram (CUG) findings that independently predict the outcome of posterior urethroplasty (PU) following pelvic fracture urethral injury (PFUI). METHODS: Findings of CUG included the location of the proximal end of the bulbar urethra in zones A (superficial) or B (deep) according to its relationship with the pubic arch. Others included the presence of pelvic arch fracture, bladder neck, and posterior urethral appearance. The primary outcome was the need for reintervention either endoscopically or by redo urethroplasty...

To facilitate nerve preservation during robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RP), hydrodissection (HD) using an injection catheter was performed. HD during RP is a nerve-sparing technique in which an epinephrine solution is injected into the lateral prostatic fascia to separate it from the prostatic capsule. Although the beneficial effects of HD on postoperative sexual function have been reported, HD has rarely been used in robot-assisted RP. The primary reason may be the potential benefits of robotic surgery, such as less bleeding, magnified surgical view, and fine movement of instruments; another possible reason is the difficulty of handling sharp needles in a narrow intra-abdominal surgical space of robot-assisted RP...

BACKGROUND: To date, no previous research assessed the bibliometrics of men's sexual and reproductive healthcare (SRHC) across Arab countries. This study appraised the current standing of men's SRHC research in the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region. METHODS: We performed a bibliometric analysis to assess qualitatively and quantitatively the peer-reviewed articles published from Arab countries from inception to 2022. In addition, we conducted a visualization analysis, and assessed outputs, trends, shortcomings and hotspots over the given time period...

OBJECTIVES: To present a case of foreign body granuloma (FBG) development after injection of calcium hydroxylapatite as a urethral bulking agent and to review all documented cases of this phenomenon in the literature. METHODS: We analyzed a new case of calcium hydroxylapatite-induced FBG. We also conducted a literature review of the PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, and Web of Science databases through March 2022. Reports were included if they contained stress urinary incontinence patients that developed an FBG after calcium hydroxylapatite injection...

INTRODUCTION: Multi-parametric magnetic resonance imaging (mp-MRI) is currently used to triage patients with suspected prostate cancer, before deciding on prostate biopsies. In our study, we evaluated normal and equivocal pre-biopsy mp-MRIs to see whether it is safe to avoid biopsy with such findings. METHODS: A retrospective study was conducted at a district general hospital in the UK between August 2017 and July 2018. Patients with negative and equivocal prebiopsy mp-MRI with high clinical suspicion of cancer had proceeded to biopsy...

The first described case of deep dorsal vein thrombosis of the penis secondary to vaccine-induced thrombotic thrombocytopenia (VITT), a complication of COVID adenoviral vector vaccines. The patient reported pain in the penis one month after vaccination. On ultrasound, a deep dorsal vein thrombosis was found and a biological workup was ordered to confirm the VITT trail. Anticoagulant therapy was immediately initiated and the patient responds well while suffering from erectile dysfunction. VITT is a potentially serious event that can be life-threatening; every practitioner should know how to deal with it...

Introduction: A UPJO is a blockage of the ureter that affects urine flow. UPJO is mainly treated by an open approach, however, in recent years minimally invasive techniques are taking place. These techniques include robotic and laparoscopic pyeloplasty. Some patients require a redo after a primary intervention. A systematic review was conducted through the examinations of the efficacy and safety of a robotic redo pyeloplasty in adult patients from previous literature reviews. Methods: A literature search was made through PubMed...
